A cool thing with ICRPG, I'm learning, is how quick you can adapt anything you have to it. Pathfinder? Any edition of D&D? White Wolf? A random one page dugeon? The D&D Starter Set adventure for your campaign that's been running for two years? Just run it. Everything scales. It works because it doesn't have to be matched to the level of your players, it's matched to how hard is it supposed to be to do the things you're doing? You can even just start mixing genres if you want to, which leads to weirdness that seems to be the exact sort of silliness that was absolutely intended to happen.
I'm a fan of Basic Fantasy and OSRIC as well.

    Love me some Basic Fantasy.
It's just such a nice go to for new players or dungeon masters. BF RPG is also great for those pick up games that I often find myself running.
I haven't tried ICRPG yet... I may keep my eyes peeled for a copy.

I've been going through a lot of similar thinking as someone who loves how ICRPG has abstracted and streamlined a lot of the fiddly bits of traditional RPGs like you mention (initiative, monster scaling, movement, EFFORT), but also has a library of 5e and Pathfinder 2e books and enjoys how the PC customization options interact with the more detailed rules.
I've been running ICRPG for a few groups for about 2.5 years now (both Alfheim and Warp Shell settings), and have had a relatively easy time translating 5e monsters, features, and spells over to it's style, but I'm itching to try running PF2e by the book just to see how the simulationist end of the spectrum feels (and maybe figure out how to bring the feel of those sweet, sweet feats into the ICRPG framework!)
Really enjoying your videos - keep up the great work, and happy Thanksgiving!

If you like ICRPG look up xeno dead zone. It's aliens for ICRPG

Im going to be using OSE (B/X) to run my fantasy games, I really like both Basic fantasy and ICRPG. I borrow heavily from ICRP and I like the way it breaks down rpg concepts.

Man you are exactly where I am! ICRPG rocks, and I also love BFRPG.

Appreciate the back and forth between the systems. You seem to conclude that once you go ICRPG you can't go back! Hahaha. ICRPG does have a PDF/hardcover combo for about $17 now.
ICRPG always hits the table for me because of its DIY spirit, the culture and forums, and all of the fan made content out there. Once I discovered it, it was hard for me to go to anynother system. If another system like The One Ring or Twilight 2000 has a mechanic I want, I find a way to hack it into ICRPG (which always seems to be quite seemless).
It sounds like you might like the Sci Punk book for ICRPG if your into Alien.

I'm very much an Alien fanboy! I picked up ICRPG Xeno Deadzone on Drive through RPG. It's literally the Aliens film but in RPG and Board Game format! Love it!

Nice vid, Bro! I do love, as you know, BFRPG! I've looked at ICRPG, and it's pretty easy seeming and has some neat ideas for things, but I keep coming back to BFRPG too!
I understand your pain of decision! 🤔🤓It can a little bit of analysis-paralysis at times. I guess that's a cool thing that so much is out there of what we like. But that's also an issue to weed through it all too and decide.
I'd definitely play with ya, Bro!
Thnx for all your great stuff over all this time... really cool! Hope your back is better. 🙏

My goto game for anything is GURPS now. There is nothing wrong with the OSR games. It's just that I'd face the same hatred that I get in D&D 5e and Pathfinder2. I'm tired of playing my second choice character all the time. So, I went to a game that doesn't have the bias. Sure there are GM's that have the bias. I don't play with them.

ICRPG has a quickstart that is free, and ypu can totally run games with it. Just saying.

You okay Rob? You seem a bit melancholy in this video? Honestly I like to limit my self to just a few pen and paper role playing games. I like Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2E, BECMI D&D, Mongoose Traveller 2E. Thinking about maybe adding a fourth game in there but without a group I don't have the drive to get into more games.

    • @AdventuresWithDice
      @AdventuresWithDice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I can see where not having a group would lessen the drive for sure.
I've recently packed away 100's of RPG books, just cause I realized that I'm not likely to use them. But I want to pass the on to my kids.

@@AdventuresWithDice I had a group trying Traveller and one of the player's kept making excuses not to play and another was getting on the nerves of everyone and the group fell apart. Kind of hard to run games when 2/3 of the players caused issues.
Right now I am just a collector. I collect the AD&D 2E line, BECMI, and Traveller.
