Their playing is so tight, but sometimes I wish the bari was a bit louder. I love the booming low sound sticking out just a little bit from the rest of the voices.
The low fidelity of early sound recording technology did absolutely no justice to the complex and rich tonal quality of a saxophone section. It’s a shame digital recording didn’t really exist in the big band era.

I read in the paper about how some congresswoman carried a bill to cut funds for military bands, also your petition failed. That is soooo sad. I wonder if she ever saw/heard what you guys do, it's so inspiring she would pull the bill for sure!! What a fabulous recruiting tool! Everyone on this post is ready to join up right now! I could make a few PC incorrect comments about that lousy bill but I will refrain. As a sax player myself I have a real appreciation for how well you all play. I just wish I had your "saxophone standard" and "inside the big band" when I was starting out, I might have stuck with it! Fabulous, don't ever let them tell you you're not needed!
Question for the USAFB: How dense is the harmony on these arrangements? Am I hearing 4 parts with doubling? 5 parts? BTW, thank you, it sounds terriffic!
Yep, Alto on top, bari usually an octave down, makes sure the harmony is nice and tight while still having melody there, cool to see a different way to make harmony other than, string sections, acapella, piano and guitar ect
Can you imagine the world wide goodwill for the USA if these guys were sent around the world instead of drones, bombs, and guns??!! What peacemakers they could be! All their stuff is extremely well recorded and photographed. Supersax has nothing on these musicians.
Hi I sent you guys an email about this arr. and about seeing how to get into the military band just under a month ago and still have gotten no response, I would really like to hear back so I can get a few answers, any help is appreciated.
Hei, that's quite nice! I am just quite puzzled by the barisax that is used. The "guard" over the top two keys on top are things I have never seen before. What model is this instrument? Thanks!
+Nils Tillander It looks like a Low Bb P. Mauriat baritone, but I'm not one hundred percent sure though. They're just one of the more popular companies that makes new Low Bb baritones still.
+Tyler Frueh If you're interested in speaking directly to a saxophonist send us an email. You can find our email address and other information on our website www.armyfieldband.com
7theoutdoorsman The Jazz Ambassadors did each selection in a complete take with no splicing. We filmed each section individually, and they are playing along to a recording of themselves for technical reasons. What you hear is indeed the group playing the excerpts from start to finish.
I don't know for sure but they probably went to boot camp and everything but went into music after graduating from basic training. If there was a war where they desperately needed soldiers, they would probably be sent out as a last resort
For the regular military bands they do go through basic training and everything, I'm pretty sure it's different for the president's own military band as they are always where the president is and they focus completely on their music and I don't think that they go through basic. the band director for the correlating middle school for my high school was one person away from getting into the presidents own military band on alto saxophone out of about 5,000 people.
Hello sir, I am a fellow saxophonist. Specifically I play tenor saxophone and I'd be absolutely ecstatic if I could have the chance to talk to one of you. I have many questions and all I ask if just a moment of your time. Thank you very much - sincerely, Robert.
Their playing is so tight, but sometimes I wish the bari was a bit louder. I love the booming low sound sticking out just a little bit from the rest of the voices.
Such perfect balance.
KG I wish there was more bari 😂
Logan Bach I agree.
2:37 that is one of the most beautiful soli ive ever heard

The low fidelity of early sound recording technology did absolutely no justice to the complex and rich tonal quality of a saxophone section. It’s a shame digital recording didn’t really exist in the big band era.
well if it at least lasted until the 50s then we could've got quality recordings
@@ghsgtnayhmd4792 it lasted past then for sure but audio recording in modern day is far far superior to anything in that time

The original record of Kenton’s Street of Dreams from the early ‘50s sounds better than this

The United States Army Field Band Is everyone in the Jazz Ambassadors playing on a Selmer Mark 6 or 7 Saxophone?
Definitely Thad Jones!!
This is pleasing to listen to with earbuds or headphones
Now this is why I started playing! Those harmonies! WOW!
As a former 02L, 02G, and 02J in the 2AD band, this brings back fond memories! These soli were awesome!
I keep coming back to this because it's one of the best things I've ever seen
Yep I'm back
Dear USAFB, this is awesome. That’s all, God Bless, and thank you fellas for the outstanding harmony
Keep coming back to this. Here's to inspiring me to write more for big band!
This is so inspirational ! you all sound so good it is unreal. this is the kind of music I love to hear and play !
Legend has it that lead alto is still tapping his foot to this day
I am indeed!
@@andrewlayton4293what mouthpiece and ligature are you using there? I’m looking to get something new. Thanks!
I’m using a NY Meyer 6MM, with a Silverstein ligature.
Beautiful ensemble. Fantastic
Absolutely love your music. Well done, many thanks!
Thanks!
I’m sorry but WHERE HAS THIS VIDEO BEEN ALL MY LIFE???
Supersound and really impressive tightness. Im loving this!
I've played Three and One (on bari) so much that I can hear the band backings throughout the whole soli haha.
You all are absolutely amazing! I play the Alto Saxophone and I admire how well you all play. Keep up the good work 😄😄😄

Freaking amazing sound
Question for the USAFB: How dense is the harmony on these arrangements? Am I hearing 4 parts with doubling? 5 parts? BTW, thank you, it sounds terriffic!
+mandohat It's usually a 4 part with a double. It's most common between the second alto and the barry.
Man, thank you so much. I see some score study in my future. These videos are amazing, that you for your service.
In the case of Cottontail, it's actually the lead alto and bari that are doubled.
@@ejzeiberg I think the same goes for Three and One.

I've come back to this video for years; it's still absolutely incredible to hear. Where could I find the arrangements that you played of these tunes?

Agreed with the peace spreaders but whats wrong with super sax?

great medley of real classic soli fragments!

Wow, very nice!

WAOW! Genial!
Needed more bari!!!

Brilliant!

Gran orquesta,
Wow, thanks this was awesome
WOW!!!!
Yeah Brad get it!
Amazing!!! I'd like to hear how they take on the sax soli from Don Menza's "Tonawanda Fats" tho XD I'm sure that they'd do an amazing rendition of it
Where is the full music of the first playing??? I really love that!
So smooth, I really wonder how do they arrange like this!
Jazz block chords. Not easy to work with
They should add groove merchant!
❤️
What else can I say that already hasn't been said? There's nothing about this I didn't love.
Anybody know where I can find the sheet music (alto sax) for Street of Dreams?
I wish I could play saxophone
Sounds great as always! Where can one find that arrangement of Cottontail?
Benjamin Das A google search might turn up what you're looking for. It should be a readily available arrangement.
The United States Army Field Band Found it, thanks! www.ejazzlines.com/COTTON-TAIL-p982.html
+Benjamin Das Would there be any way I might be able to get the 1st Alto part of Cotton Tail from you, like pictures of it, if so that would be great.
