The early republic not being able to beat Carthago is completely accurate lol. Rome spent a long time building up a naval force and barely won the first Punic war, seizing Corsica with massive losses on both sides. Roman hegemony in the western mediterranean only started after the second Punic war.
@@TheSuperappelflap rome first conquered sicily, that was literally where the first punic war was fought for, and also the reason for it, a dispute between the two powers over sicily, rome got sardinia and corsica after it because they took opportunity to seize them from carthage on the mercenary wars, the mercenary wars where a consequence of cartage losing the first punic war

Absolutely fantastic mod, my only problem with it is that if you start at the earliest start date a lot of the time events like Alexander the Great and such won't have the chance to fire because Macedonia ends up getting eating by some other nations. I might need to just be more patient and let the campaign ride out longer tho
as the dev who made most of the current content for rome, this video was great to watch! you would've had a better time against carthage if you utilized socii more in the run as they allow easy cheap expansion and if used properly will not rebel for a long time, and can help you overpower enemies. also seems like you didn't build up your cities much, or utilize slaves, which are both huge reasons carthage was seemingly unbeatable. not much of a reason to have 60k troops in italy, mostly a waste of money this early
The most unrealistic part of this is the roman leader being a ginger, not very historically accurate Edit: Respice hos barbaros dolorem suum minuentes, capillitium Augusti aurantiam vocantes. Vere modo cogitandi barbarico retrogrado.
Early Romans actually frequently had blonde or reddish hair, it was only after centuries of intermingling with people from other parts of the empire that they got a darker skin and hair tone. It is documented that in the late empire, women from wealthy families would buy wigs made from light hair of germanic women to cosplay having a pure bloodline. But whatever. Ginger joke funny hehe.
Hello, I recommend the Anbennar mod, it is a total conversion of the game into a classic fantasy world of dwarves, dragons, kobols, orcs, with a magic and artificer system and much more.
"This streamer never gives up.... well, maybe some times"... best moment in the video, to combat a problem, the first necessary step is recognizing you have a problem. That is real progress Tommy :D
I kinda hope Tommy transitions to doing more stuff like this on the main channel, its just so much more interesting to watch him struggle and learn than it is to see him play the same kinda shit over and over which ultimately results in people hard focusing him.
About a week ago I played a campaign as Roma. All was good until the Etruscan war. I had plenty of allies and couple mercenary bands, still wasn't enough to beat them. I guess the problem is the AI. Etruscans and their allies would join forces and had couple +10k stacks, meanwhile my allies got their small stacks obliterated one by one. If I entered a battle, etruscans and their allies would join it, meanwhile my allies were busy showing sticks up their ass. And even if my allies joined the battle, etruscans would summon couple thousand more men out of thin air and the battle would be 35k of us vs +40k of them. Going to try the campaign again once I have time.
I think I am getting to strong, I am probbaly the best EU4 player ever. Ahh Tommy we've all been there dunking on smalls, then the HRE declares war on you and you find out about coalitions. Despair ensues Also if you don't want them to teleport maybe reduce to 3 speed at war :D Glad to see you having fun though!
It's a great mod, I play as one of the tribes in India focusing on archers, I keep on tribal raiding, becoming the strongest and most innovative in the world without becoming great power
Tommy tries to take Carthage, an ancient Major Power, as Rome at a time when it was still a minor player in the Mediterranean, gets mad when he can't defeat Carthage. Tommy might be too impatient to learn more than broad strokes of history these days. But it's still nice to see him learn.
He still seems to not use diplomacy to make better relations and etc, even more with a mod like that where turn eu4 not just a paint the map thing, diplomacy is really important
I'd say the reason of fall was that our mod is still WIP, and particulary early event wars for Rome should be less harsh in future, and we will eventually fix them, but for now they were not.Same with socii being not helpfull. Apologise for that. Other then that - ideas pick order, probably? Maritime really pays out only AFTER Carthage is dead and your've eaten mare internum. I'd take infantry/admin or infantry/imperial or something? And then probably leadership, not logistics. And would not take anything in Sardinia too early :D With inf+leadership your quality could wreck Carthage armies in Sicily wars. And then you will need somehow either take expansion for a few years and colonize a prov in africa near Carthage to land troops BEFORE war, to overhelm it on land, or if they have unkilled nation in africa - kill it, to secure a landing. Other then that, apart from having a fleet decent enough to HOLD Carthage fleets in suicide battle, while your transports land a legion in other part of sea, that then will then hire ton of mercs when it will land, I doubt there is away to fight Carthage without taking naval ideas and going full heavy ships. Second mistake - probably not using mercs and citizen troops (banners) enough at easrl game? They can be really usefull, as mercs have no hire cost in mod, only upkeep, and are perfect at conserving manpower, and citizen units have +quality and -upkeep.
@@Mastamote you can't. Eventually they will one day become totally unsatisfied and rebel in one big Allied War (all socii vs Rome) as it was in history in 1st century BC.
