This is ADMITTEDLY a little late on the draw. There are a LOT of GREAT beginner guides out there. Specifically I think you should check out Art of Rivals for all the fundamental skills: www.youtube.com/@ArtofRivals/videos Edit: There ARE things I missed... Who wouldve thunk! Well, I'll compile it here in this pinned comment: General: - there is no mashing to get out of grabs. The only way to grab break is to try and guess the type of pummel the opponent is going to do. Press Attack to break out of normal pummels, or press special to break out of special pummels. If an opponent decides just to throw, there isn't anything you can do about it. Forsburn: - The Clone cooldown is affected by how it was destroyed. Detonating it yourself gives it a shorter cooldown. - You can snap to ledge with up special if you angle it downwards Orcane - You CAN orcahop while puddle is out by holding shield during Up Special. This is VERY important in mixing up your recovery - You can also adjust pulse dash slightly downwards by holding down during the animation. Oddly it doesn't seem to work going up. Generally speaking, if I didn't list a mechanic here, I either thought it's something you could probably discover by just playing, OR another guide can explain it better. This is mostly for things that I think people missed. Also If I did actually miss anything, rip me lmao
your explanation of DI has got to be the best I've seen yet! I've understood without understanding before.... aka was doing it wrong this whole time 🤣great vid
Thank you! Appreciate that! Unrelated but, I got randomly algo'd your "rivals of aether 2 constructive criticism" video and as I was watching, i checked my notifications and saw that you commented on my video and let me tell you, that was a WILD moment for me LMAO
Forsburn: the cooldown on your clone depends on how it died. Detonating it yourself gives it a shorter cooldown. Also, his UpB will instantly grab the ledge without the detonation if you aim it angled downwards.
Thank you for a proper visual guide on how to DI! I was getting so frustrated and every response I get from a Rivals stream on Twitch in the comments was "Just DI perpendicular to the attack" or "Watch a Melee tutorial". This helps me out a lot in general so thank you! :D
Yeah the DI in this game (and melee too tbh) is super unintuitive. Visuals help a LOT. Which Rivals of Aether 1 did an incredible job illustrating. Just unfortunate they didn’t have the time or resources to have tutorials out on launch. But I’m sure it’s coming sooner rather than later.
thanks for this man, love all encompassing tutorials and the time you put into this The DI portion was extremely well done, the visuals that you presented were great watched it all the way through
Yes! Though, afaik, you actually have to hold shield to orcahop with a puddle out. I did not include it because when I was testing, I only pressed and it didn’t work for me 😔😔
OOH ITS HOLD SHIELD TO PREVENT TELEPORTING!! I don't know why I had it in my head that it was press shield like the other cancels, and I just went "huh i guess they took it out in rivals 2" that's so unfortunate.. You're right that IS VERY important for orcanes... I gotta make a new pinned comment with things I missed lmao
With wrastor, if you want to use the right stick to do ground moves, you can set your stick to adaptive so on the ground it does strong so you can slide tilts and in the air it does normal aerials
One other advanced lox tech worth mentioning is that is lava boost level 1 or 2 can be cancelled into an aerial, it’s super strong to hit reversals at ledge, especially with how fast bair comes out
loxs meatballs can be infinitely juggled(I named it meatballin since i was the first to post a video about it). easiest way is to down smash while its falling. this can be used as another meatball mixup when approaching. the opponent now has to guess if youll throw it with angle(also his meatball can be angled ALOT), throw it then follow up with a dash attack or nair, or throw it up and either aerial it or hit it on the ground, OR dair it and do any of those options again. in high percent situations this can win games. ive seen someone do this and then down speacial the ball over ledge, and use dair to send the meatball to the recovering enemy and follow up that hit with another dair to spike them. super saucy
"the goal of this video is to compile all techniques the base game doesn't tell you about, because every other video like this misses something." > "oh wow I just learned that while filming" like 3 times
AHAHAH I mean it’s a good thing I found those out then right? 😂 (Most of the things I “just learned while filming” were things I had a vague idea were in the game but didn’t know how it worked. EXCEPT the wrastor using tilts out of dash thing, that was a sheer accident and is crazy he can do that)
Just tried this out myself and you actually don't have to mash! You can just hold down and orcane will lower themselves a little. Wow! that would've been great to know before hand ahah Interestingly it doesn't work going up. Wonder why.
1:00 - 2:00 so useful to see that thanks! I'm still not sure exactly how long to hold that perpendicular angle for, is it effective all the way until character is actionable (and I'm not sure how to tell exactly when that is!)
So you can only influence the trajectory during hitlag / hitpause (the brief amount of freeze frames that occur when you get hit by an attack). So you will want to put your control stick in whichever optimal direction during those freeze frames. In this game, as far as i know, you cannot influence the trajectory WHILE your character is in hitstun (after hitlag / before character is actionable) so holding during the launch doesn't do anything. (but I hold anyway because it FEELS like it does something LOL) TLDR: you just gotta hold the direction during the hitlag. so not very long!
how do we know what “other guides missed”? just looking at timestamps and off the top of my head: tilt boosting, cc, floorhug, amsah tech, aerial special stuff (turnaround, b-reverse), rar tech stuff besides hydroplaning (e.g. ledge interactions)
If you're referencing stuff that I missed in my video, I mostly avoided these topics specifically because they weren't rivals specific. And I felt that other guides actually do go over these better than I could. I tried MOSTLY going over character specific stuff or rivals specific mechanics. (i kinda went against this by immediately explaining how DI works in this game but yknow) Should I have just made a comprehensive EVERYTHING video? maybe. but this video was designed to be supplementary.
I did a little testing in the training mode and the answer seems to be "kinda" so it seems that you are actionable SLIGHTLY sooner than the full distance of the launch. However, if you just jump straight up or do a neutral airdodge during this time, the momentum of the launch does not change. like if you're getting launched -> this way, then when you jump, you actually still move slightly -> this way. But since you are actionable before the full distance of the launch, if you jump or airdodge towards the stage, it seems you CAN reverse the momentum at the last second. Truthfully though, it looks like its barely effective, but can maybe save you in a super clutch situation.

If you use your walljump, you can regain it by hitting an enemy! This allows for super greedy edge guards
Oh snap! This would’ve been great to add to the video! Had no idea!

@@BothPlayersGG yooo!! thats actually insane LMAOOOO wow! thats such a coincidence 🤣

Oh interesting! I definitely don’t play forsburn enough to know this!
Very good video, I knew like 80% of this, but the 20% I didn't know was very helpful to see examples of

Here to help! I love rivals of Aether and would hate to have people give up on it before learning all the things that make the game fun!
you can also get the puddle-less up b with orcane even with a puddle onstage as long as you press shield after the up b.
Yes! Though, afaik, you actually have to hold shield to orcahop with a puddle out. I did not include it because when I was testing, I only pressed and it didn’t work for me 😔😔
awesome video man! 🔥🔥
Fleet can also pick up her arrows off the floor, but they break if someone else steps over them too!
You can do an orca hop with a puddle out by holding shield while you do it, potentially the most important Orcane tip.

@BothPlayersGG a lot of ppl were saying "press" online so just know I went thru the same realization lol
You can also bounce with nair

if you mash down on the left stick during orcane's side b animation you can lower yourself down a little. it helps with recovery mixups
Just tried this out myself and you actually don't have to mash! You can just hold down and orcane will lower themselves a little. Wow! that would've been great to know before hand ahah
Interestingly it doesn't work going up. Wonder why.
Underratedddd

Super useful thx
I’m a fleet main and even I didn’t know the fact I could stop holding onto a button to keep floating, I thought I had to hold onto it like with Peach.
"whos who? i dont knoww?" as he wave dashes across platforms
LMAO
liistennn, the mental stack in this game is so high i bet people won't even notice ahah
(but fair point!)
missed shine grab with zetter which is incredibly easy to do in this game vs melee

If youre close to the blast zone, does jumping, air dodging or attack reduce your momentum?

@BothPlayersGG I've been searching for this answer forever, thx for checking
There's a bronze in this game?
If you could believe it, there's even STONE under that! They're the real heroes of the game tbh tbh
One day I'll get out of bronze... it's just unclear if it'll be to stone or silver 😅
