Mehnnn I connect with Limoblaze's songs on a deep worship level, especially because of the words. Which I believe the lyrics of any gospel song is the CORE. There's a place we get to in our relationship with God, where we must realize that when we begin to focus especially on the lyrics of a song and internalize it, it takes us to a place of deep adoration to our Father leading up to the point of causing changes and renewal in our hearts. The blend of the Afrobeat genre is even a plus. Thank God there's scripture to help us. It is the word of truth and we must align with the wisdom in it. Because we have feelings and opinions about what should and shouldn't doesn't change our role and call to live by the word. THERE ARE MAJOR THINGS THE WORD OF GOD EMPHASIZES throughout scripture, (like the call to Love, forgive, obey, worship...) whilst there are others that it points out only for us to use Wisdom birthed from intimacy to guide us and rightly divide. "For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect (love) is come, then that which is in part shall be done away". 1Cor13:9‭-‬10

Thank you so much for tackling this with wisdom.
I THINK, he meant he had a song he wanted.
    People are different.
Benny Hinn often tells the drummer to stop playing, and the pianist to play softly.
It doesn't mean drums are ungodly. He just has a way of connecting.

I found Afro gospel really good especially when I’m trying to connect with non Christians, as an icebreaker and also whilst working out at the gym cos it’s upbeat and energetic plus the lyrics are edifying. Really thankful for young Afro gospel artists like Limoblaze, CalledOut Music, Nolly and the rest as their music has helped me reach out to a wider audience.

@@annaisiomaful exactly! These guys are good and are pointing people to Jesus through their music. This is what ministry is all about. If we look at a lot of things that we’ve embraced as tools for evangelism, like social media and all, majority of them were all criticized simply because it’s new to us. Remember God is multidimensional and can’t be boxed. He is Jireh, Ebenezer, El Elyon and a lot more. In our context, He is the God of Nathaniel Bassey, also God of Dunsin Oyekan, God of Limoblaze and God of CalledOut.
God is looking for vessels for the next move across the 7 mountains, of which arts and entertainment falls under this category, and so far Limoblaze, CalledOut and the rest have made themselves available.
Scripture also reminds us that the sons of isaachar had an understanding of the times and seasons and they knew what to do. Key is to understand what God is doing and know how to respond to this next move of God

His wedding, his playlist. I totally agree! That was the first thing that came to mind when I watched the video. He has the right to choose the songs that would be played and to caution the DJ (he hired o) if he does otherwise. And like you said rightly, he might not even know the song or the artist, is it at that point he wants to start listening to lyrics & researching on the music artist?? The DJ should have focused on the playlist he was given and saved his creativity for another day. Bashing afrobeat gospel and claiming its not gospel doesnt make sense at all. We focus on the wrong things and fight needless battles often times

Honestly, context is important. I honestly thought it was a secular song until I went to find out about the song and realised it was a song by Limo blaze and he was singing about God...
I had never heard the song before that time.
We shouldn't be quick to judge and we shouldn't compare songs too.
Like you said, it is his wedding and we should respect that. Everyone is different, maybe like me, he didn't know the song was Christian .
Also, he sounded as though he had certain songs which he had informed the dj to play. It is his big day so he has a choice as to what song he wants....
I also love how you said that Christian songs serve different purposes which is true!

Thank you bro. If not for this video I wouldn't have known the particular song Apostle said is not his type of song is a Christian song. As I don't like secular song polluting my soul and spirit too.
I also didn't get to the point where secular songs don't appeal to me in a day, in fact at my wedding and as a Christian I requested for one I love my baby song by Wizkid and the band refused to sing it because they do Gospel songs. I believe the level of our growth spiritually also determines the type of song that appeal to us and our age too.
Personally there are some of Moses Bliss song that I don't really like but the Gen Z like those type of song because of their age and what is trending now...
Lastly, it is best our Gospel Ministers wait on God for heavenly sounds that are ever green and appealing to all generations like our Hymns that have been sung Centuries ago...and still very relevant

As a Christian, there are times when I am working on my laptop I prefer to listen to only instrumentals like strings or saxophone and sometimes slow hymns and other times gospel live band because I want to enjoy the instrumentals and other times songs that only talks about the death and love of Christ. Human beings are dynamic and respond to different environment and mood. Different songs are meant for different occasions.
There is a church close behind my windows. Sometimes their praises make noise to me but to them they are praising God.
I feel like I need something which is more relaxing but theirs is more like shouting and the only thing I do to overcome this is to apply the principle that "if you can't be like them just join them".
I just sing and praise along and forget that it makes noise.
I am a Ghanaian though but I can say Gospel music nationwide especially Africa has taken a different form and modernization.
Gone were those time where Nigerian gospel artist in their videos will change locations and costumes like 15 times but today they stand and sing like the whites do in church auditoriums and event centers and that rich captured video becomes their music video clips.
Personally, I think it's best for a Christian to listen to edifying songs.

The first time I saw this clip, I felt embarrassed as a Dj. I am a Christian Dj and when it comes to weddings, I do ask my client the kind of songs they’d love me to play cos I don't want them to look confused when I play what wasn't approved.
    My take:
    - I feel the Dj has been making mistakes during the event and the pastor has had enough of that or that wasn't the dj on set at that moment.
    - The Mc shouldn't have said that out loud. She could've gone close to the Dj to ask what happened at least to know if there was a technical or music file issue not give an authoritative warning in that manner.
    - In any event, I believe they should always be a follow-up discussion to be sure that everyone is on the same page. It doesn't matter if it's the Dj, caterer etc. There should be communication at all times so no one is lacking behind.

I like in particular the 3rd point in your analysis i.e. "don't make your preferred choice the superior option". It is definitely true that we have preferences and almost often judge other options through that lens. Thanks for calling that out and thank God I can stick to my preferences with reason valid to me while leaving others to have their preferences too.
Building on it, I would say "Don't force your preferred choice down the throat of others" because for instance we know that outside this specific subject of conversation which is music genre now, God would rather be accessed through "The way" and not any other. In that case, one's preferred way may be superior but you still don't force it down others' throat. If humans can learn this and live by it, we will co exist better in the earth.

A suggestion when it comes to human relationships:
Try to never lose relationships over "avoidable" arguments. Also argue to learn, and NEVER to win.
Always, while arguing learn to measure the direction the argument is tilting to. If you sense that it's tending towards hurting your relationship with the other party, try to suspend the argument where possible.

Romans 14 is a good place to begin. Genre differs and it's fine when the lyrics are not vulgar. Christian music is about God and His dealings with His people. Men of old sang theology, true. There is no Christian genre. We dance alot in Nigeria and some folks prefer hymnals. The beat and tune notwithstanding, we sing praise and worship God.
Whatever music style you connect with is fine. Variety is the spice of life. Imposing our preferences on others tends toward immaturity.

I agree with you on this. I'd like to add that as believers, the way we address issues should be with wisdom and a clear display of the mind of Christ.
Because of this matter, so many people said hurtful and bitter things about the gospel minister and the Apostle, yet their bios read "Christian"
May God help us. Thank you so much, Jay

I love the context of your message. It's an edification to the Body of Christ.
To me there's nothing wrong with Afro Gospel music. Some persons are not patient enough to go through some gospel lyrics or better still listen to song wordings. They just rightly condemn the song once they heard the intro hit or sound.
Some personal opinions have eaten some persons not to be able see and receive what they want and belongs to them.
    Thanks 💞

Some DJs just take pleasure in killing your joy by not following instructions.
I had a similar embarrassing situation too at my wedding reception.
We had listed the songs to be played and they were strictly gospel songs. While we were dancing in, I had to send my bestie yo them to change the song.
The straw that broke the camel's back was when it was time to do couple dance, Uncle couldn't find the song I purposely sent to him to be played. He played something different. Mehn I was sad 😥. Till today I agree that there was no couple dance at my wedding reception 🤦

I am a Christian sound engineer so I am always on the lookout for various genres of music that are Christian. And afrobeat is a favourite😁 Anyway there is a lot of argument that goes about genres that tend to be Christian, like R&B, Afrobeat, HipPop, Dancehall😅... and the others. Thanks though for this video.

    God bless you Sir!
Everything happens at a time for a reason! It is high time this issue is addressed and I guess it is the right time. There is no comparison. As a young Christian teenager i remember the first lyrics I ever wrote and how my group them maligned and murdered it because it did not sound a certain way they wanted.. for over 10years, I never wrote another song. Thank God for finding me and showing me there was nothing wrong with the lyrics I wrote then.
Every song serves its purpose just like David's Psalms were inspired by how he felt at the point in time he wrote, likewise Solomon in writing the Song of Songs.. Same way, every genre of music within the Christian music serves its own purpose.
Truly, I pray we stop the comparison & learn to appreciate and enjoy every sound for it's uniquness. Shalom.

Thank you so much. Interestingly, I just saw this here. I really align with all you have said. There's nothing that says this is how Christian songs should sound. What matters is that we are glorifying God in that and it's all unto the Lord. Thank you again. God bless you.

I Love Apostle Edu and His ministry, I follow dem quite a lot, and I wish I didn't have to say this, but I hope smbody learn from it..
That kind of reaction he had in that video didn't start that day. What you don't deal with early, privately and fast will soon come and be a snare in your flesh or ministry. I won't say more than that.
Either ways, He is good man. And we thank him for his many Sacrifices..

  • @promiseisaiah8597

Thanks Jaymikee sir for being a balance. My take on the issue of mannerism, it is relative. Apostle responded to the degree of abhorring he had for that sound. As believers we have the right to abhor what we feel doesn't align to our spirit as led by the spirit. Rebukes are done in love but not sheepishly. Truthfully for me, not every spiritual song appeals to my spiritual fancy. That must have been the case for him. "That is not my song" could also mean that that is not my kind of playlist. And it was an offense to him. Secondly, if he had entertained that piece, another set of people who look up to him would have thought he now gives license to what they know him to always dislike. We should always see the secondary thoughts in issues. Thanks sir
