New VW Golf Sportsvan 2019 Review Interior Exterior.
The Golf Sportsvan is one of the most flexible and spacious cars in the compact class. With its elevated seating position and a rear seating system with longitudinal adjustment, the Sportsvan offers interior properties that are otherwise usually found only in a traditional van. As a result, this Golf will appeal to drivers who like to sit a little higher, who travel with children, who want flexibility for their leisure activities and who value a compact Volkswagen that offers a lot of stowage space. Now an update has sharpened the design and features of the all-rounder while, at the same time, Volkswagen has updated its drive, assistance and infotainment systems.
The updated Golf Sportsvan - offered in the three equipment lines ‘Trendline', ‘Comfortline' and ‘Highline' - includes redesigned bumpers, new halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, new LED headlights (instead of xenon, standard on ‘Highline') and for the first time tail lights in LED technology as standard on all lines. Five new alloy wheel types (16-, 17-, or 18-inch) and the new colour 'Cranberry Red' round out the updates to the exterior. The interior features new decorative trim, fabrics and leather seats. The updated Golf Sportsvan is launching with the latest infotainment systems. Included as standard: the Composition Colour radio system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen. All three optional infotainment systems have glass-overlay surfaces with an elegant 'tablet' look. The infotainment range consists of the Composition Media (8-inch touchscreen) and the two navigation systems Discover Media (8-inch) and Discover Pro (9.2-inch). The Discover Pro can be operated by voice and gesture control.
Providing greater safety and convenience in the Golf Sportsvan are new driver assistance systems such as Pedestrian Monitoring (part of Front Assist with the City Emergency Braking System which is standard from the Comfortline), Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, the latest generations of Park Assist and the proactive occupant protection system, as well as Trailer Assist, which makes reversing easier when towing.
Every year around one million new car buyers worldwide choose a Golf, Golf Variant or Golf Sportsvan. All three Golf models are based on the same technology: the modular transverse matrix (MQB). Yet they differ significantly from one another, especially in their interior concepts. These differences become evident in a comparison of the three interiors. For better understanding, this comparison subdivides the interiors into three areas: the first seat row, second seat row and boot space.
Front seating positions in the Golf Sportsvan are much higher and are actually reminiscent of those in a compact van. While occupants in the Golf and Golf Variant sit from 488 to 574 mm above the road, the figures for the Golf Sportsvan are from 573 to 633 mm depending on the seat adjustment. Indeed the 1,613 mm-high Sportsvan (including roof rails) also provides more occupant headroom, despite the high seating position. Due to its seat configuration, the Golf Sportsvan is also equipped with an independently designed dash panel; it is built higher than its counterpart in other models. The instruments and the infotainment system form a continuous control axis that is positioned high, which makes it very clear and easy to see and reach.
Rear passengers in the Golf Sportsvan also have a higher seating position. Instead of the 535 mm in the Golf, the height above the road is 619 mm. Naturally the Sportsvan also impresses with its larger interior height at the rear, too. However, the ingenuity of the interior design at the rear is not simply its added height but its flexibility. In the new Golf Sportsvan the rear bench seat, with its 60:40 split, can also be adjusted by up to 180 mm longitudinally; this adjustment can be used for more legroom for rear passengers or for more cargo space. The rear seatbacks also feature tilt adjustment, or they can be folded completely. There is also a wide ski flap opening to the boot space behind the centre armrest. Children, meanwhile, will enjoy using the fold-down tables built into the backs of the front seats.
With its raised seating position and a rear seat designed for longitudinal adjustment, the compact Golf Sportsvan boasts interior features that are normally only found on larger vans. This way, the Golf Sportsvan is popular with customers who want to sit a little higher, travel with children, need flexibility for their leisure activities or appreciate a large cargo space. Since the end of 2017, an update has sharpened the design and equipment of the Golf Sportsvan. The update features newly designed bumpers, upgraded powertrain, assistance and infotainment systems and new, standard, LED rear lights. Optional LED headlights are another new feature.
