    This is old, but still relevant. Puerto Rico is screwed, yet it still does not want to either move on as a separate nation or a federal state. It should consider being an associated nation, that way it becomes a sovereign, independent nation with close ties to the U.S. However, this is just a dream that will never come true, because the majority of islanders are too scare to move forward and are politically divided, which they have been since the Spaniards' control since mid-19th century.

    Mr. Ratner tells Paul Jay that in the 70's, the thrust for a more radical movement in New York was led by the fight for Puerto Rican independence

      Or maybe, they are all Puerto Rican’s protesting the former establishment. Black Panthers, Brown Berets, Puerto Rican, Yellow Peril, Nationalist Party fighting for their rights.

    Dancing around vagueries about Cuban repression when they have more political parties and less police than we do.

    The economic rights narrative is something you rarely hear in the United States. Heck, socialism is still a dirty word here.

    Puerto Rico would be another Cuba, Haiti or Dominican Republic if it weren't for the US. That is the bottom line and Puerto Ricans know this that is why they voted overwhelmingly to become a state of the US in the past election. 4:17 "De un pajaro las dos alas" was written by Lola Rodríguez de Tió a puertorrican poet, not Jose Marti (Cuban). This guy does know know what he is talking about.

      "yes, wed be poor, but wed be puerto rico" LOL ok, tell that to the millions of Puerto Ricas who left the island, I do not think they care much about being poor in Puerto Rico. In 2004 you used to be almost 4 million people, now you are 3 millions, lets see how many are left after hurricane Maria. BTW, What are you doing living in the States? hypocrite

    • @raulcruz6601
      @raulcruz6601 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There is no reason to be poor. You are just repeating the same brainwashed lies implanted in your head by propaganda. We were not poor before but we are in debt now. Of course you know nothing about pre 1898 when we were an European province with our own gold and currency. The Antilles are victims of economic sabotage

    • @arisvery4986

      Another Dominican Republic for sure... statehood would allow them to become a economic force over time with free market principles put in place

    • @raulcruz6601
      @raulcruz6601 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another Singapour more likely. Santa Claus doesn't exists. The reason why Washington invaded is to kill the competition of ports located closer to the Panama Canal than those in USA. The only advantage of statehood is the recovery of the autonomy that we had already. The rest is taxes. USA is bankrupt anyway
