    As an insecticide, it can,depending on the insects external structure,get between the layers of the exoskeleton (skin,if you will) ,and in a short time,destroy the body,and in the leg joints,cause destruction that will prevent the insect from being able to move.

      @@thespartanamongus1121 Basically what I had said.I simply didnt go into all detail.If they cant move,they dont eat...they die,bleed or not.
      But the fact is,the minute amount of powder that destroys the joint isnt enough to absorb fluids in lethal quantities.Any fluid that contacts the powder,stops at that point,and acts as a dam.Dont believe the nonsense you read on the web.Its the same web that passes stupidity around,such as the hollow earth concept.

    • @needamuffin
      @needamuffin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silica is silicon dioxoide, aka quartz, and the most abundant mineral on or in Earth. That's what diatom shells are made of. It's used in watches because it is piezoelectric, it generates electricty when struck and vibrates when a current is applied to it. Doped silicon is what microchips (technically just the transistors) are made of and form all the logic gates within computers. Silicates are a class of materials that contain the silicate (SiO4)2- ion. Three different things.

It's even worse for your dog so please reconsider using it on him

      Works great on fleas__you just need to be super careful when treat your pets. CAREFULLY sprinkle some into your hands then, apply__but not around their eyes or nose! Again, carefully, rub into fur getting close to, but not rubbing into, the skin__it can be irritating to pets with sensitive skin because it's very drying.
      If you have carpeting sprinkle DE throughout, especially, in corners where fleas will hide. Do this close to the floor so you don't create a dust cloud, rubbing into carpet as you go, particularly, if plush or shag-type. And make sure to keep pets out of room while doing this!
      You must leave in carpet, at least, for about 3 days before vacuuming__better if you can leave it longer__so the eggs won't hatch and larvae won't grow into adult fleas.
      Sometimes you have to retreat, depending on the degree of infestation__but if you're diligent it REALLY DOES take care of the problem.
      Of course, the ideal thing is not to bring fleas in, in the first place.
      On that note, my cats never go out yet, I ended up with a terrible problem because my sister's cat had fleas and they hitched a ride to my place in her purse! One of my kitties has sensitive skin and is allergic to every collar and liquid application so I was at my wit's end__until I discovered DE! It took several applications(and a real "b... buster") because our apt. was totally carpeted, and we had some things stored in boxes and bags so, LOTS of cleaning out, but it DID get rid of them! Only get "food grade" because all others are highly toxic to humans and pets! 😺😺😺

    My understanding is the abrasive diatom shells and broken bits get into the joints of the insects exoskeleton then abraid them down rendering their joints unusable. Horrible way to go but solved my wood ant problem without harming my cats or myself with chemicals. I havent tried it yet, but if you very lightly powder your pets fur it kills lice, ticks and other vermin (beware not to breath it while dusting).

    Yeah, you should avoid breathing any kind of silica as you could get silicosis. I work in an industry that uses ground silica as a filler material and we go to great lengths to protect our associates from breathing it because it can be airborne pretty easily.

    diatomaceous earth food-grade can also be used as a oxygen absorber for long-term food storage such as rice or beans or you can sprinkle it in the bottom of your food buckets and then put your bags inside, you don't even need to wash it out you can cook and consume your rice and beans and pasta and anything else you use it as a oxygen absorber.
