This is the best video about Squid Game here on TH-cam. While your analyzation of the series is deep and on point (made me realize some things that went over my head), you also used the original Korean audio for the clips and you pronounced the characters' names correctly. Good job!
I noticed another thing that lines with the “misdirection” part too: we’re shown this guy who people would immediately denounce as just another lazy guy who brought this onto himself. Then you learn about his failed strike at the factory he used to work at, the debilitating PTSD he got from it that can literally stop you from doing most life things and go “oh damn…”

The sets were my absolute favorite part of Squid Game. There was something so twistedly wonderful abt them that i could never put into words. You finally put it into words for me
It feels like in Midsommar, where it is a horror film but it's so sunny and bright that your brain is having to not rely on the usual tricks of the darkness, something that smart audiences have been accustomed to and anticipate.
I've been waiting for you to break down the incredible set and colour palette for this!! Chae Kyung-sun did an amazing job during the marble episode, the details are amazing
Spikima, I just wanted to take time out to really congratulate you on making such a beautiful designed review. Truly is inspirational in many ways. I got tired of this show for many reasons, one being the craze the series had internationally and the initial decisions Ge-HUn made in the end. But for some reason, I clicked on your video because I knew you could essentially subvert my expectations while creating great content. The way you even designed the subtitles in the centre of the screen, the way you did the commentary, the way you placed the visuals..absolutely amazing work man. I know we haven't spoken in a while on Instagram however what you do here is brilliant. Haven an amazing day brother.
I thought the show was okay but when I saw the colorful hallway along with the haunting music I was in awe! I want that one scene of the hallway framed in my house for how incredible it looked!
Literally was screaming at my screen for Gihun to go down and help the poor man and was frustrated when just stood there. Its great to find a video that shows what that means and how Ilnam was right about him.
You were frustrate because you didn’t understand. We already know Giyun is kind and would help. The bet was about the general public’s willingness to help. Idk why y’all keep saying he should have helped. That wouldn’t have been as powerful.
you are criminally underrated! The editing, your voiceover, and just the overall quality of your videos are superb! I find that your reviews are very in-depth and it makes me watch more films. Kudos!
Hey Spiki 😘 To maybe complement your take on childish innocence Vs adult corruption, what I think is the reason of playing children games is that equality is an adult concept which has to be learnt and integrated (or not). Childhood to me is the moment when instincts are unbridled and emotions unabashed, which can lead to violence and bullying (Lord of the Flies, etc.). Most characters are childish in SG, most of all the VIP. The only wise one is the Old Man, who suffers the death of God when the only player he trusted fails his ultimate test... Are you doubtful about the announcement of a second season? 🧐🤪
Fascinating! Love the idea you threw there, and it makes a lot of beautiful sense. :) I'm not 'doubtful', but I do wonder if it'll be meaningful to have one! He's definitely not going to make the second season any time soon, so perhaps it'll be good :)
Lord of the Flies was specifically about the upper middle-classes. It is not an allegory of the darkness inherent in man (or children) more generally, it is a commentary on a very specific social structure.
Tbf, hating anything that is popular is like an entire personality type of it's own at this point. Literally had someone say to me they wont watch SG because everyone else is. Like ok? You miss out on a well made and fun TV series 🤷♀️ seems like a bit of a self own to me.
Lol I'm new to the channel and just realized spikima is korean, or at least fluent in korean. Their pronunciation of the korean names is pretty much perfect.
Spikima I just really adore you! I love your voice, but more importantly you're opinion and point of view. Your videos are amazing and you have introduced me to alot of films I have never heard of. Thank you for all your hard work sir😉
As a viewer, I was always looking at the screen begging the characters to see there were other solutions. But I don’t think I could see those solutions, or maybe take a chance on them, if I was in a similar situation.
I thought maybe I was just missing something at first when I thought, “why doesn’t Gi-hun help the man, Il-nam didn’t specify WHO had to help the guy.” Thank you for this explanation, and I can now rest easy knowing I’m not a lunatic😂
Good video, the only thing I didn't understand and agree with was at the end. When you said that ultimately Il-nam was right and that he won when we clearly saw at the end that he was wrong about human nature because we saw that person who seemingly walked away return with the ambulance. I thought that moment was to signify that humanity still had some good in it and that it wasn't all bad.
Right?! I love the explanation of him still living by the rules of the game because, instead of feeling like a helpless observer, he could have gone and helped the man himself. However, someone does help. Why? Perhaps to leave us with a sense of hope for humanity? I feel like rewatching the series after listening to this exposition. I was too caught up in the game, myself… And the game was just an ingenious method of telling a story about the nature of humanity.
@@MercedesLefrancois it’s just poorly acted and the translations are often off. watch it with subtitles, the korean actors are extremely talented, it’s a vastly superior experience.
@Ana Pie oh my friend has dyslexia and one thing she does is sometimes watching movies with shitty unofficial dub. it's not always available but you know one when you see it, the lines are always muttered emotionless and there's no synchronisation with the original sound, it's only lightly lowered. it creates this weird effect where you hear both the original and the translation. dunno if this is done in english though, never seen such a bad quality eng dub myself
I loved this vid thanks so much! When you say Gihun wasn’t the true winner of the game, it was Il-nam, I think Il-nam was the real loser, because he lost hope and drowned in his cynicism, he didn’t even see that he lost in the end because someone did help the drunk man but Il-nam died before he saw it. It was a sad and pathetic end for Il-nam as that was what his life culminated to as a mass murder who laughed in the end but he was wrong. Gihun didn’t have to help because someone else did. Humanity was tested there and humanity won. And I think this is what inspired him to turn back for the Front Man.
Like the conclusion but, I always thought that he should bet that someone will help him and then just help him, himself because it wasn't specified. I think he thought it was implied though. Also I didn't notice the games were on the wall of their beds, the entire time.
i've always thought deeply like this about the last game, and everyone seemed to be too distracted by the aesthetic and the memes. the series is great because of all the artistic work and the message but people ruined everything by overlooking all that and missing the entire point. i guess the people behind the series also won that last bet, you can't have any hopes on the majority of people.
Well to be fair, we already live in a capitalist society and humans hate change so their brains purposefully ignore the message (not that they're aware of it)
Spoilers! During the game where they play with marbles, and several favorite characters are killed. I cried when number 1 was killed, that fucked me up so hard, been a while since I got hit that hard.
The whole childish nature to the games and sets also is like a mirror to how children are led by adults and often deceived by adults just because they can and kids don’t have power over adults - just like poor people will always systematically be played by rich people because they will always have the power
Hi hi Mr. *Spikma, have you ever seen the film Bedevilled? Ever since seeing your analysis of Mother and Parasite, I've always wondered. Love your channel! 🤗
In one hand, he could go there and help, but in the other, I would do anything in his place to see that old man die. To be fair, i would have smothered the old devil myself. Humanity is bad? NICE, HAVE A LITTLE TASTE OF BAD BEFORE YOU GO. AND HE DIDN'T EVEN SAW THE HORRIBLE MAN DIES.... If he's really dead. I mean. Is he? Is he really???????????
I don’t usually support gatekeeping, but god I wish this series didn’t get as much crappy mainstream attention as it did. I loved it, from the cinematography to the writing and obvious political commentary. It’s a real shame that of all things a show deeply criticising capitalism, class inequality and societal decay got turned into a cheap fortnite-esque TikTok phenomenon with cheap knock off merch for children and people who don’t even try to look past surface level storytelling.

Then you learn about his failed strike at the factory he used to work at, the debilitating PTSD he got from it that can literally stop you from doing most life things and go “oh damn…”
the MOST fav scene for me in the entire show was the scene they waited for the van to pick them up to continue the game and I think this scene is soooo underrated it came in the right time after we got to see their situations too imo, the aesthetic of the scene was 👌🤌✨💖 chef kiss!
P.S. thank you! your content is full of knowledge as always, I'll try to catch up as much as I can
P.S.2 and MUBI! awesome sponsor! yayyyyyyyy
YES! That scene is highly underated I couldn't agree more
👩🍳🤌
I honestly don’t understand why people don’t like this show, like when ever I see people talk about it they just say” nah this show wasn’t all that great or” it’s so overrated” it’s overrated for a good reason it’s so good just because it’s not underrated doesn’t meant it’s not good.
overrated and bad are two *very* distinct things, a lot of people don't understand that
I liked the show, but the hype was too much. People didn't really look at the show, they missed the point and tried to put it into every form of content. Like why is there squid game asmr
Because it's a critique of capitalism and people don't like that.
@@ellealine4159 Lots of people looked at the show. Did you not see all the posts people made dissecting the show? You’re not the only person who looks deep. Please find another excuse because I’m so tired of you pretentious people acting like that’s a reason to hate anything popular. Also there’s a squid game ASMR because people wanted to do two things they like. It’s extremely popular so of course it’s gonna reach the ASMR community so they can keep up with the latest trends. That doesn’t mean they don’t understand the damn show. 🙄
@@corimoon3360true though I think with sone things it's more like overexposure effect on ppl. Like when a radio song gets "played out".
Well very much appreciated ;) glad you enjoyed it and happy that you liked the way i presented it! Thank you!
Kudos!
Ive only watched three of your videos so far but i have to subcribe, you put so much work into your videos. Youre amazing man
Hey Spiki 😘
To maybe complement your take on childish innocence Vs adult corruption, what I think is the reason of playing children games is that equality is an adult concept which has to be learnt and integrated (or not).
I'm not 'doubtful', but I do wonder if it'll be meaningful to have one! He's definitely not going to make the second season any time soon, so perhaps it'll be good :)
Lord of the Flies was specifically about the upper middle-classes. It is not an allegory of the darkness inherent in man (or children) more generally, it is a commentary on a very specific social structure.
@@paultapping9510 I stand corrected.
This is a really indepth video on all the hidden meanings from squid game. Really well done
yall need to stop hating, this is an excellent video, extremely well-made
Tbf, hating anything that is popular is like an entire personality type of it's own at this point. Literally had someone say to me they wont watch SG because everyone else is. Like ok? You miss out on a well made and fun TV series 🤷♀️ seems like a bit of a self own to me.
The art direction of squid game is beyond beautiful.
Lol I'm new to the channel and just realized spikima is korean, or at least fluent in korean. Their pronunciation of the korean names is pretty much perfect.
This series is so beautiful and actually made me take notes for filmmaking because of how great it was
Spikima I just really adore you! I love your voice, but more importantly you're opinion and point of view. Your videos are amazing and you have introduced me to alot of films I have never heard of. Thank you for all your hard work sir😉
Thank you ;) thanks for stickin around and keep watching!
@@SpikimaMovies of course! Your review of Moonlight is legit soo beautiful! You have talent my guy
As a viewer, I was always looking at the screen begging the characters to see there were other solutions. But I don’t think I could see those solutions, or maybe take a chance on them, if I was in a similar situation.
3:52 but isn't the maze also a part of the game to distract and disoriented the Players?
I literally WAS thinking about why didn't he "cheat" and go help himself
i’ve been waiting one this one :)
Good job man keep making amazing videos
I was too caught up in the game, myself… And the game was just an ingenious method of telling a story about the nature of humanity.
seriously, when Gi-hun was just standing there waiting for someone to help that man I was so frustrated like go help that man already?
criminally underrated channel
This is why I have TH-cam and pay for my internet
Such an interesting video. Really makes you think
Let's not forget if you have only watched the dubbed version you haven't actually watched the series
Subtitle gang
Did they change a lot?
Here to comment because this channel is phenomenal! I’m amazed.
Wow, I didn’t realize how many sets involved red and green.
I miss the squid game hype
I like the marbles game, it’s lush.
Like the conclusion but, I always thought that he should bet that someone will help him and then just help him, himself because it wasn't specified. I think he thought it was implied though. Also I didn't notice the games were on the wall of their beds, the entire time.
thank u so much. I`m tired of all these similar facts here and there and ur video is like a diamond between all this trash.
After watching his treatment on Ari Aster’s work, I’m hooked. Talk about a deep dive.
That was insane.
You have an amazing channel my friend I wish you much success
I still never understood how this Show Completely BLEW UP in the U.S
Not only the us it blew up world wide man. Where I lived Im pretty sure it was number 1 or top three on netflix
easy its a critique of suffering under hypercapitalism. We identified with it.
whoa I love the editing of this video better than the show 😂
i've always thought deeply like this about the last game, and everyone seemed to be too distracted by the aesthetic and the memes. the series is great because of all the artistic work and the message but people ruined everything by overlooking all that and missing the entire point. i guess the people behind the series also won that last bet, you can't have any hopes on the majority of people.
Well to be fair, we already live in a capitalist society and humans hate change so their brains purposefully ignore the message (not that they're aware of it)
What's YOUR favourite moment from Squid Game?

Pls do a video on House of Cards
Squid Game Deez Nutz lmao
_you saw that, didn't you?_
I cried when he betrayed his friend in the marble game. 😭🥺
Spoilers!
During the game where they play with marbles, and several favorite characters are killed. I cried when number 1 was killed, that fucked me up so hard, been a while since I got hit that hard.
What a show and the score is excellent. Great channel. Subscribed.
fun fact: squid game is over a year old now :)
Sorry if I missed it, but would love to get your take on Alice in Borderland.
The whole childish nature to the games and sets also is like a mirror to how children are led by adults and often deceived by adults just because they can and kids don’t have power over adults - just like poor people will always systematically be played by rich people because they will always have the power
That's a depressingly good take on the ending.
wait i unironically thought this was about splatoon for like 2 minutes 💀💀
Hi hi Mr. *Spikma, have you ever seen the film Bedevilled? Ever since seeing your analysis of Mother and Parasite, I've always wondered. Love your channel! 🤗
now that u mentioned i saw the devil , please make a video on it too
Thanks for your perspective.
You nailed the Korean names!
Yes! Thank you! (I'm Korean though..so...maybe not much credit there)
와 돌아왔다~~~
I was saddened when the old man succumbed to his death. He's the most awesome part of the series. I didn't care about the other guy, at all. 😅
Colour was barely mentioned in this video...
Nice.
Rjejjwjdjdjw why is this channel so underrated 💔
In one hand, he could go there and help, but in the other, I would do anything in his place to see that old man die. To be fair, i would have smothered the old devil myself. Humanity is bad? NICE, HAVE A LITTLE TASTE OF BAD BEFORE YOU GO. AND HE DIDN'T EVEN SAW THE HORRIBLE MAN DIES.... If he's really dead. I mean. Is he? Is he really???????????
This is literally the Only thing that Squid Game did better than Liar Game or Alice in Borderland at.
아아아 형... 한글자막 빨리...

fastest 12 minute of my life
Very good video
I don’t usually support gatekeeping, but god I wish this series didn’t get as much crappy mainstream attention as it did.
I loved it, from the cinematography to the writing and obvious political commentary.
It’s a real shame that of all things a show deeply criticising capitalism, class inequality and societal decay got turned into a cheap fortnite-esque TikTok phenomenon with cheap knock off merch for children and people who don’t even try to look past surface level storytelling.
*Utopia.*
since it also tricks with color
Thank you for covering foreign movies and stuff (i live in united states). It is cool to see stuff that isn't just ya know, from the united states/north america. So much creative people and its just great to learn.
I hear you on that.
This is a good review of the series but it didn't seem to have much to do with colour ?
It's very interesting to watch this right after the news of Tucker Carlson being fired.
wait omg are you korean… is that why you’re the first person i’ve seen to actually pronounce korean words correctly in a video about squid game… 😭
everyone in the comments getting gihun’s name wrong though 😐 i can literally never escape the stupid westerners
I am indeed. haha
@@SpikimaMoviesnice!
Could you please explain how it was filmed especially how you light up the scene 2:20?
Dude… spoiler alert!!!
Ha! Jk. I follow few channels but absolutely love your content. Keep the analyses coming!
Cheers, my friend.
Kinda off topics but Giyun looks like my dad but Asian
Oh wow I just realized this is Willy Wonka
Wow this channel is great. Shockingly low sub count
The main character kinda looks like markiplier
👏
the text is illegible in the middle part
Wow squid game is amazing! I love BTS!!
When watching the show, my boyfriend was put off by the sets. He said « how could they get anyone to build sets like these? » I answered « they say “it’s for a Netflix show” »
Oh shit I forgor this show existed 💀
