People do not realise the pressure on darts players. You throw to put food on your families table. Jamie has all the talent. I hope he can get himself right and get back to the PDC.
I agree, I think people forget that they are just throwing a pointy piece of metal at a tiny target on a board, the margin of error is massive, luck is most definitely involved at the top level along with extreme skill and talent, the pressure on top players is massive
I helped out in a dart pub about 15 years ago for a couple of months and they had a pretty well known player come for an exhibition one night. This was in the Netherlands. The manager of the pub told me that cost him 2200 Euro and most of the player do 2 or 3 of those gigs per day. Now picture that player being overhere for a week. They make most of their money from doing those exhibitions and sponsorship events.
Not necessarily. If they're throwing darts to put food on the table then they obviously don't have a job outside of darts like some of the lower ranked players do. That way they don't have to worry about playing darts to provide for their family.
Only good memories come to me when I think in Jamie Lewis. That game against Peter Wright back in world championship 2018 was the first match of darts I've ever seen and thanks to that I started to follow darts. Hope to see Jamie back in the stage soon again 💙
Only difference being that Rock is so talented he will sooner or later make it big. MVG also needed a few years to finally realise his true potential, but when he did, he really did. I have little doubt that Rock can do the same.
Likewise for Luke Littler rn - regardless if he wins or not it's about how he can handle the newly found fame (Edit: well this aged like fine wine didn't it lol)
Darts is very technical. sometimes cracks appear and it's very difficult to solve them. It's unlikely he'll be a force again. It's happened to other good players like Lloyd, Newton and Klasssen. It's nearly impossible to come back. It's nearly imposssible to come up with a new set up that can bring you back to the top. I wish him the best, but when it goes, it's next to impossible to sort it out when you're competing at that level.
@tristanris2481 klassen is still fairly good. He changed his throwing action slightly and is able to compete well. Making dramatic changes to your action or your stance and coming back stronger is extremely rare. You can never take your throw for granted. Even the great MVG was having a few issues with his set up.

2018 was an insane world championship with so many great highlights. Lewis-Wright and MVG-Cross are among the best games ever.

Sky don't help in hyping up players and putting unnecessary pressure on them. They're doing the same with Josh Rock at the minute.

Klaassen even came back with a new throwing style and got to the WC semifinals before disappearing again..
