This car likely came from Carowinds back in the late 90s when the Days of Thunder motion ride was located there. I was able to locate some photos of a similar 51 car that was displayed at the Kings Dominion, VA version of the ride, and the contingencies are placed in a similar formation to this one (which aren't correct for a screen-used car). The poor condition of the car also suggests it sat outside for many years, likely at the theme park. I would guess that this is not actually a screen-used prop, but rather something that was thrown together for Paramount to display. Are there any chassis markings? Still cool though.
If you restore it I would be truly honored to come paint te care. I worked at Coke when the movie was made and painted the show car for Coke. Was an honor that Mr Hendrick asked me to do that

So cool! Parts of the movie was shot at the only round condominium on Daytona Beach where my good friends family has a condo! Pretty neat considering i got married on the beach right behind the condo as well! One of his best movies ever!

I remember when they were filming the movie & the “Old barn set” in what is now the Morrison Plantation community…The barn’s still there, but the ramps into the loft are gone. I believe that car actually spent some time displayed out in the open, whether on top of Big Daddy’s Seafood Restaurant, or at Carowinds as one of the rides “Days of Thunder” entrance attractions?!?
The rear panel is not signed anything like a movie car. The contingency decals are not what the movie cars had... It was a mock up that somebody concocted a long time ago but it isnt a movie car.

The movie cars had comoletely different layout on the rear 1/4...The Mello Yello on the tail panel was laid out as MELLO YELLO NOT MELLO YELLO, they also had correct winston cup contingency decals (not the half arse set pictured on this car) a Hendrick Motorsports motif on the rocker panel just forward of the rear wheel well, they also had an AC Spark Plugs decal that covered almost the entire decklid. There are numerous other details that don't jive.
I have pictures of how they made the 46 Chevy car flip. And other pictures from behind the scenes. Best part of growing up was when my cousins lived n charlotte and got to go see all the cars n how they made the movie.
Where is the Hendrick decals on the cars used in days of thunder all had his race team logo on them throughout the movie if you look closely at all the cars, they've Hendrick motorsports logos you can ask the man himself

Kings domion did have a days of thunder ride and a car like this on display outside until probably the early 2000s
Carowinds, Kings Dominion and Kings Island all had one of these cars. I rode the ride at all three parks. I know the Kings Island Car sat outside.

Our Owner Johnny bought all the cars at carowinds after they closed the display. This car is the one that was on display there.
