Started watching this ironically as it appeared to be a parody of Sherlock Holmes but the content is intriguing and 'comedic' enough to follow through. The Brits Did It Again! Love from Kenya
@@a_cats I think that it isn't a skit comedy anymore is one of the things that make it a superior version. It's more polished. It's still funny, but it isn't strictly a comedy.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, The Long Dark Teatime Of The Soul and The Salmon Of Doubt were a series of books written by Douglas Adams (of Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy fame). I do wonder though, why Benedict Cumberbatch seemingly stole the look of Dirk Gently when he starred in Sherlock. Dirks hair, style of speech and clothing were described in detail in Douglas Adams' books. I like to hope that maybe Benedict is a fan.

Way better than the newer show. Mr Mangan manages to express the quirkiness of Gently, Real shame the BBC canceled it so very early. Edit: How come this has so few likes?

Ok, the new 2016 one is stupid humour based on shouting, blood, insane people - it's basically horror that isn't scary. What a waste of the Dirk Gently legacy. I will now watch the pilot, see it it's better - it can't be worse ..
Yeah, the new one would have disappointed Douglas Adams, I daresay. Taste matters, of course, but the new one seemed reallly bland while the old one is - come to think of it - certainly worth a rewatch.@@blucat4

A parody of Dirk Gently. Stephen Mangan fails to capture the character of Douglas Adams's creation. The surrealism is overplayed to the point of just being silly. And Adams's tricks with logic are destroyed. I would recommend giving this a miss and, instead, go for Harry Enfields rendition of the character. It is far superior. Enfield lets Adams's wit shine through.

😂😂This is the British original version. Alot more like the book. The American version is nothing like the books unfortunately. The books are great and could only be done properly by the British. (this is no go at USA you just don't have the same comedy as Douglas Adams

I liked this version of Dirk Gently better than the one from 2016. This one is more funnier and don't have so many unnecessary action scenes.

The pilot gained a commission in 2011 for a three-part series of one hour-long episodes to be broadcast in 2012
The Pilot is Season 1 Episode zero but was actually made after Episode three and then moved back in time for viewing. Pretty simple stuff.

This is the british version done first, both based on the book by Douglas Adam but the series are unrelated to each other
