- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban traveled to the US state of Florida on Thursday, where he met with former President Donald Trump following a NATO summit in Washington.
The meeting is part of Orban's self-proclaimed "peace mission" to end Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is likely to add to frustration among Western allies over similar secret trips he has made to Russia and China in the past few days.

Diplomatic efforts like the Minsk Accords had been broken many times.
The ruler in the Kremlin wanted to annex land very similar to the big idol from Austria, although it was made clear from all member nations of the European Council that Munich' 38 won't be repeated.
This basics for any further diplomacy hadn't been accepted at all. Putler has ended diplomacy in 2022 and chose war.
My understanding of geopolitics isn’t in doubt….However, I honestly don’t care where peace comes from. WE SIMPLY NEED PEACE. TOO MANY YOUNG MEN HAVE DIED. Enough is enough. There’s nothing to be gained in a war of attrition. This war will end in some form of settled negotiation. The earlier we start talking with both parties, the better. Ignoring Russia during peace talks doesn’t do the world any good. We need both parties at the table

Nothing wrong with seeking peace. I’m more cautious about how trendy words are used. I recall hearing the words « special military operation ». It is unusual to see this much effort for « peace » when it’s only a special military operation at hand. Then again, it could be possible that one of these terms is not used correctly.
He's not seeking for peace. He's seeking for Ukraine to surrender to Russia. How about he lobbies Putin to leave Ukraine, and return his troops to within his own borders? That would also be peace, and more importantly, would not reward war, which is the opposite of peace. Russia broke the peace, it makes sense that they should stop their illegal war so PEACE like we had before can occur.

Putin invaded Ukraine, a sovereign country protected by the Budapesr Agreement in which Russia and others promised to protect Ukrainian soveregnity in return for Ukraine giving up its nuclear arsenal (the third largest ) to Russia.

The only thing it can lead to is the capitulation of Ukraine. Those are Russia’s terms. And putin will break this new agreement like he did with Minsk 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, Orban, (ie., Jabba The Hutt), embarks on a so-called peace mission, pressuring American allies to surrender territory to Mexico without addressing the atrocities committed. How many of your friends who have been fighting and lost some of their friends during this fight would accept such an offer? Now, consider Ukraine: Crimea was annexed in 2014, and here we are in 2024, with Russia wanting more. Why would Russia stop if they are not held fully accountable?

While Orban is following diplomacy, the rest of the EU and NATO is feeding conflict with escalations, begs the question if they really want the peace they preach about.

Both sides could talk to each other whenever they wanted. There is and never was any obstacle in the modern age. Zelensky speaks Russian, a well-known fact because he was an outside-the-establishment guy who wanted peace and everyone hoped he could maintain the tentative peace of the Minsk agreement. Putin is not interested in peace, he is interested in conquering Ukraine and refused everything Zelensky tried to negotiate with him at the start of the war. Putin has not changed his demands of Ukraine since the war started because this is his war and he can end it effectively and immediately by withdrawing from Ukraine and thereby instantly guaranteeing peace. The fact that he refuses tells you whose fault this war is.
Orbán's role is self-appointed because he is desperately trying to milk his temporary position for his own ego and ends. All of his foreign political goals have failed, his party has been kicked out of every European Parliament party that there was. His staunch pro-Russian stance has alienated every country but Slovakia's in the EU.

If Orban knows that enough members won't attend, he could do something to cause serious damage to the council. Best boycott that member states can do is send junior representatives that tows the party lines and not really allowing Orban's term to be effective
