    In Jaws of the Lion:
    1) Push/Pull : it's now "up to" x squares away. You can push through other enemies.
    2) Retaliate : doesn't exist.
    3) Tutorial: slow difficulty build up
    4) Retirement: no personal quest, no retirement. You'll go to level 9 if possible.
    5) Monster Stat Cards: No more range stat included. By default it's 0 if it's not there.
    6) Item Trading: You can trade items freely. You can swap items around.
    7) Ambiguous Advantage: you don't have to choose the 1st one draw anymore. You can now pick your favorite.

      Appreciate this, though he didn't say you can push through enemies. Looking up the rule in the Jaws of the Lion rulebook it says, "Targets can be pushed or pulled through their allies, but not through their enemies, obstacles, or walls. "

      I got a question on retaliate. It doesn’t exist as in you bring in your characters from Gloomhaven and get rid of the retaliate cards they have? Or just no extra retaliates? Would of liked some sort of explanation of what it’s means and why it’s gone.

    I love how JoTL streamlines a lot of things that GH had you struggle with. Scenario book is awesome, tutorial missions are exactly what we needed, the box is now within human capabilities of transportation. I hope that a lot of those changes will make it into Frosthaven.

    I have played Gloomhaven through about two times and also got the game on Steam and played it there and I'm currently playing through Frosthaven with friends. I wanted to show my wife the game so I bought Jaws of the Lion because I heard the tutorial was good. Fast forward to 6 months later when we finished Jaws and she liked it so much that i got a sticker reset for Gloomhaven and we are going to play through it now. Definitely recommend Jaws before the standard Gloomhaven if you want to get people into the game. Plus it's MUCH cheaper so if they don't like it at least you didn't spend $160 getting a game no one wants to play.

    As usual I'm always relieved when I see your face doing the video, I know it will be good. As am starting out in JOTL I am glad to not be dealing with how Gloomhaven handles Advantage and Disadvantage. There was some incomprehensible explanation for "non-modifier versus modifier" that results in something like drawing 3 or more cards to decide what happens. I don't think these exist in JOTL so as you said, we pick what is best for advantage. Conversely, we have to pick what is worse for disadvantage and sometimes that is situational. In certain situations, a stun might be better than wounding the monster, too bad, the monster is wounded. (you were going to kill it anyway in the next round). I''m not sure this will even come up in JOTL, I'm only at level 1 and haven't gotten to some of the other perk decks. Weigh in on that if you want. Thanks again!

    Would it be ''broken'' to take the JAWS rules (advantage, push-pull) to gloomhaven ? I'm running JoTL first then playing Gloom with my wife. I tought the rules were the same and i may keep them the same

    • @neuralnetgames6540
      @neuralnetgames6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm trying to figure out which I should buy: gloomhaven jaws of the Lion, or the D&D mad mage board game. The latter is double the cost. I'm looking to play either of these games on my own at first and then to get my 10-year-old involved who is also interested. Can anyone out there comment on which of these might be better for my 10-year-old and I?

    • @fernando47180

      The OG Gloomhaven I would only recommend for people that have some past experience playing semi-sinilar voard games, as it can be quite overwhelming to learn, even for experienced board game players. If the GH style of game is something you believe your son and yourself would be interested in playing, I would recommend Jaws of the Lion.
      About this other game you mentioned, I have never heard of it, so I can't add much there.

  • @zazen69
    @zazen69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you explain the advantage difference better. What do you mean an ambiguous card? Also do enemies with the range symbol on their card always have range even if their action card says they do a regular attack?

    • @neuralnetgames6540
      @neuralnetgames6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ambiguous would be something like +1 vs empower fire... either could be better depending on circumstances. In Gloomhaven they have a base range stat so yep they attack with that range stat unless otherwise stated! Stat is missing on JOTL monster cards!

    • @zazen69
      @zazen69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neuralnetgames6540 They took the range symbol off of monster cards in JOTL so players didn't think the enemies would use range for every enemy action card pulled? Like if the enemy action card showed a melee attack for instance.

    A comment I was confused on was about retiring in Gloomhaven and sort of cheesing your new character. Is that a thing? And how so? I thought you lost all your cash, sold everything to the shop, etc and started fresh with 30 gold again.
    If this isn’t correct or there are more things to do with a new character (besides perks) I would love to know!

    • @neuralnetgames6540
      @neuralnetgames6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Starting gold is 15x(L+1) so if you are at prosperity 4 and you start the character at level 4 then you get 75 gold. What I meant was that was why you weren't allowed to trade items in original Gloomhaven! Example: hey friend i am going to retire, here are all my items. then you retire the character, start a new one and your friend gives you all of your items back so that your new character has all the items your old character had! Hope that clears it up!

    • @neuralnetgames6540
      @neuralnetgames6540  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oh also, a rule that is easily missed is that you get to add an extra perk to a new character for each previous character you have retired!

      @@markcalvinhollett for the epic feel I enjoyed 4 player Gloomhaven most but we mostly played mostly 3 player and the couple times we played with 2 we struggled since it wasn't what we built the characters for. Tom from Dice Tower mostly played solo with two characters. The amount of time additional players take can be excessive especially if they are new to the class. You are only as fast as your slowest decision maker.

    Can you explain the rules between the effects or passive abilities. I guess they just confuse me in regular gloomhaven can you activate multiple at once? For MindThief you can only have one augment active at a time unless you take the card that allows you to have more than one active at any time. Normally with other classes you can have as many active abilities up as you want, and you can cancel them whenever you want by moving them from your active area to your discard or lost pile.
