It is a joy that God can reveal his truth and sanctify us which I could not have imagined in my old estate. Being a new creature, this is refreshing. Knowing, that Jesus, prayed for me thousands of years ago. I rejoice that I've separated from the corrupt ways of the world and now see the Light and the Truth. Praise God. God was actually talking to himself when He said , Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. He was talking to Himself when He said , Let us make man in our own image. Jesus is referred to as the truth, the way, and the life. John chapter one, states, “ In the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the word was God.” Hence Jesus is God. There was nothing made that was not made by him. Jesus is also the author and finisher of our faith. The father and Son is a mystery that we only have to accept by faith and not by reasoning.

Prayer is talking to the Father, it seems logical that Jesus talk to Him Father. But a Brother Paul stated, it is wonderful that we can listen in. And isn't it wonderful that He prayed for us.
I think I think Jesus prayed because it was the demonstration and the practice to show the disciples are the apostles that that you supposed to pray to God the Father
