- An RNLI film from the late 1960's. Personally I think this is one of the best films of its kind as it actually tells a proper story based on the crew of the Sennan Lifeboat in Cornwall.
The film jumps a little in the first couple of minutes but then settles down.
The narration is by Anthony Quale and some of the lines to camera by the crew are wonderful, including, "the weather that'll feed a farmer, will starve a fisherman"!!
Overall of all the many lifeboat films I have watched this is the one I can watch repeatedly as it so well evokes a time a place and a community. Oh and don't click off when you get to the credits as there is a little post script quote from Winston Churchill that is well worth hearing
The RNLB Susan Ashley is now housed in the Lifeboat Museum in Chatham Dockyard Kent.
My sister is talking at the blackbord at the school saying the crew names sadly we lost here to the Big C but I have this gem wonderfull
Really wonderful film. The crew in those days were so important to me, and gave me my love of the crew. In 1971 I was able to raise some money for the lifeboat at Sennen. How I miss those days. So good to see the old roof on the station, and naturally, emotional to see Susan Ashley again,
Thank you for uploading this video Eric Pengilly was my grandpa i never got to meet him as he died when my mum was 14 i really enjoyed seeing him in this video :)
