I came across your video around 5 am with nothing to do so I decided to view it. As I'm white with no interest in purchasing Bevel Shaving System , I let it fly. You video was honest, straight to the point, and professionally done. Keep up the great work
To all the gentleman who have never thought that getting a baby-smooth skin shave was possible, a single blade razor is the way to go. Even if you decide to use the cheap yellow BIc disposable razors you will notice an improvement. I have not used the Bevel system yet, though I will probably try it, I have been shaving with a single blade, double-edge razor for about 2 years now. These are commonly calls DE safety razors regardless of the brand. For those with razor bumps (PFB) please keep in mind that when you use a 3 or 5 blade system you are shaving the same part of your skin in multiples of 3 or 5 with ever stoke of the blade. One more pass to get strands of hair that were missed increases the numbers of times that you hit your skin with a blade from 3 to 6, or from 5 to 10, respectively. Check out the forums at Badger and Blade dot com for plenty of free information. I receive no compensation from that site and am just a causal browser.
Thank you. I have been hemming & hawing for months ... SOLELY bc of the price point, as you pointed out. As a sidebar - I dunno if you know or even care but I saw Bevel in Target last week and thought "oh wow! This is a GREAT contract for them". I still dunno how it works for actually preventing ingrowns & evening out skin tone. Thanks for this post...
I certainly appreciate your review, my subscription just came in the mail today. I was searching for some how-to videos and best practice videos prior to shaving and stumbled upon your review. Thanks, I also concur that the price point of the product is a bit expensive, so thanks telling me about using coconut oil as a substitution.
i buzz my head and occassionally shave it. i use artison soaps like stirling or caties bubbles (i know...not a very manly name, but is a fantastic shave soap!) and a 1930something gillette new open comb razor that gises me fantastic results. blades can be purchased via amazon or the bay in bulk. i buy 100 personna blades for around $13 on amazon. the soaps i buy last quite a while and they smell great. yes they cost more than the canned stuff, but they are healthier for the skin and smell 100 times better. thanks for the honest review. great video.
You can get double edge blades on Ebay, really cheap. 100 or 200 blades for $15 or less with free shipping. A tube of shaving cream can be had for $5 or sometimes less. Good badger hair brushes are available on Amazon for like $25 too. If you've got a Walmart nearby, try the "Creamo" brand stuff, white tube with a red cap, and it does not need a brush. Works great for me. If I had to take a guess, the best thing about that system is that you're using just one blade to cut the hair off instead of some eight blade system to pull them out and mulch them, or whatever all those blades actually do...
This product is truly for black men with curly, ingrown hair issues...It been working ok for me so far, even though I don't have to shave my head, it last just short of 3 months
I was under the impression the reason for them being more expensive is due to the ingredients of their products being better suited to black skin. Yes there are cheaper but there's also more expensive products. None of which have Bevel's USP. I can't wait for them to ship to the UK so I can try it out!
Wow!!! So glad I never invented in that system, I have been using a straight safety razor for about a year, I use a Mercur Shaver and get this the Bevel razors... Amazing results, I use a nice cheap pre-oil and Nevea post shaving products... I have no issues and it's cheap, works well on my head for shaving and I always get comments about my face and head, about my skin being so smooth and clear... Have to pamper yourself and take care of your face and skin, being a professional trumpeter, I am always in front of people, so it all is well for being attentive to yourself. AgentOfJazz
Thanks for the review. I just received my system and will not be ordering again and I will let them know so. What a scheme. I hate these kinds of marketing.
I saw the Ads first on Facebook. I've been using single blade razors for about 2 years now and was interested in this. The price though is ridiculous. $30/month?? I was able to purchase razor blades, (good ones) cream, after shave, the boar bristle brush, and the razor for about $40. IF you do some simple research its easy to find good quality products.
+craig bryan there company is set to draw in people who use a multi blade razor like Gillette which runs for me and most other people upwards of $30 bucks a month for the blades only and it's not as good of a shave. Also the reason his cream didn't last I'm guessing is because he didn't use a bowl for his cream you can make the dime size amount grow quite substantially
I bought the Bevel gift set at my local target. After watching some reviews on this product I might just return it and get a double safety razor on amazon. It will be my first time using a safety razor and I’m looking for something that will give me a smooth shave.
I saw in target Van Der hagen sells the same razor blade for half the cost of Bevel $28 for the kit and $17 for the shaver. I like what Bevel is about but I think they might price themselves out.
for the dime try mixing in a mug or a bowl with a tiny bit of warm water on the brush. That creates a toooon of foam you can brush all over your hea. Pre mixing helps
Thanks this is very useful, I currently use magic shaving cream and I was thinking of going for the product you described but now I think I will stick to my cream.
I actually gave the razor one more chance. I started shaving in the opposite direction of the way they say to shave your chin and neck area and the results are so much better than what I got from Magic Shave. It's a little odd, but I'm glad I tried it. Don't know if it will help, but there's no hurt in trying. Good luck though!
Hmmm, I've been thinking about ordering me some of that product, but after hearing what you're saying, I am not sure if I want to go through with it. I would use it on my head as well. As far as my facial hair, I've been growing my beard out, so it would not be used on my face, there for the shaving cream will not last long enough using it On My Head.
Most people don't use enough water and work the lather long enough. You shouldn't have to use so much cream to shave. Work your lather longer, and add drops of water along the way. You will probably notice that the cream will lather more voluminously.
What many people fail to realize is that Bevel is seeking clientele who can AFFORD their product. Everything isn't for everybody. I have reached a place in my life, where all of my finances are in order, my debt is paid off and I have a few investments. As a result, I have decided to live my best life---not materialistic things; but investing in things that really matter and improve the quality of my life. Things such as quality food/restaurants, quality clothing made from natural fibers and, yes, quality SKINCARE.Trust me...it is NOT the same! This is coming from a person who has been on both sides of the fence. Drugstore brands and upscale brands are not even comparable. So, maybe Bevel truly isn't for you--IDK, I've never tried it---but, once you invest in quality, you know the difference immediately. You're speaking from your philosophy of, 'I can get this cheaper somewhere else'; cheaper maybe, equal quality (in general, not just Bevel) nah...
You can probably find similar, better products online, for better price points. It sucks about the knot on that brush coming loose. I have a brush that came with a different kit, and half it's hairs fell out within a year. I replaced it with an Omega brush that cost about nine dollars, and that brush is still going strong after a year. This is just one example of options you may consider.
Question bro.... how come you don't use Magic Shave on your head? I've been using it for over 29 years! NOTHING is a closer shave than Magic Shave for me. Does Magic Shave irritate your head or bothersome? because for me it works great! I HATE using razors.
I appreciate your review and It was very informative. I was considering purchasing this system until your review. Im not into giving any company a payday on a trial and error basis. There are plenty of straight razors out there, with the coconut oil you mention, better brush that are made of boar, just have to find the right cream for my skin. i will stick to my Fusion Pro glide until i find something better that work. i have to pick a few hair out here and there which is not expensive at all.thnx!
Exactly what +craig bryan said. The blades at Walmart are very poor quality and I would only use them in an emergency. Look up Astra Superior Platinum on Amazon. Excellent quality blades and extremely inexpensive. I bought the Bevel system because I liked the look of the razor. I ended up abandoning the system for a more aggressive single blade razor. Like you said, you can make your own priming oil, I use a mixture of Castor oil and Olive oil. Also you can find inexpensive shaving soaps on Amazon that lather better that the Bevel. I like Bevel, but I don't like the subscription method.
+TheBigTerm yes. More aggressive mean more blade exposure. This razor is great for a light beard, but for heavier growth it is not the best. I now have and adjustable razor the can change the blade exposure depending on my beard growth.
So far I've had good results with the Walmart blades. Haven't seen the need to look elsewhere. Guess it just depends on how your skin reacts. I do only use them once each though.
Good lookin out! I'm about to use it for the first time and was tripping off the price also!! So you mean to tell me there is nothing unique about the blades?! We can get the same ones at Walmart? ?!!!
The blades are the same but the quality isnt. You get what you pay for though. Do a simple search on amazon or eBay. You can get a box of 100 for $15, and that will last you at least a year.
Not knocking Bevel, but there are plenty of shaving soaps, creams, blades, and even razors you can use for double-edge wet shaving. Check out Amazon and sites like italianbarber.com and phoenixartisanaccoutrements.com for a variety of price points and scents. There are some blades as cheap as $10/100 pack, and soaps like Arko that are about $2 that will last you two months (or more).
I think they might need to get the price down for me to use it long term..I bought it because it was black owned and for black skin, but I don't shave nearly enough to make it worth it.
+Dwayne Watkins agreed. That was the ONLY reason i really wanted to try this but that price point stops me every single time i am about to hit 'Submit Order' ... lol #GottaSupportOurOwn #ButIStillGottaEat #Shoot LOL
9:08 happens to mine. i really took some glue to fix it :) Also i likes your review and agree with everything that you said, very honest review. i also feel like i have been living high off the hog with this Bevel Shaving System. Not only that but im going to miss the smell of the lotion but not worth it is also right. I run out of the priming oil. often. i have ample razors. and the hairs on the brush fall out, which can lead to a scar if not careful.
If you were not properly storing your shaving brush then it will cause it to wear out faster. A dime size is enough for shaving cream. You need to make sure you get a proper lather. Shaving is an art. The more you do it the better you get at it.
Appreciate this video! However, you failed to mentioned if the method of wet shaving with a single blade worked! You failed to explain that you wanted to try this shaving method because you had an issue with razor bumps and irritation. For this reason, this video is only half of his story and does not go into the real reason as to why men with curly hair that have a real problem with razor bumps and irritation should or should not use this system.
I'll help you out. I've been wet shaving for 3 years. There's a learning curve, but once you conquer the learning process you'll never go back. I shave with a DE safety razor like the bevel when I'm short on time. I shave with a straight razor when time is not a problem, for this reason I usually shave at night right after I shower before bed. With a safety razor like the Bevel the trick is to master a very light touch and the proper angle. Hair reduction is the goal. Wet shavers will shave three passes to get the job done. You'll shave, rinse, lather up and shave again, rinse, and lather up and shave again. If your skin is very sensitive two passes will do. I'm not familiar with Bevel, that's why I'm watching this video, do I can't comment on the quality of bevel. I can tell you that there are countless brands available that are much cheaper. I would go with them, I was only interested in their razor. I use a variety of shaving brands. Truefitt and Hill or The art of shaving on the high priced side and brands such as Colonel Conk and Stirling Shaving Co. On the lower side. I also use a shaving brush from Stirling that is amazing. It's a synthetic brush that I got for twelve dollars instead of $22 because the label was missing. Incredible brush that is every bit as good as my silvertip badger brushes. Finally, wet shaving is not intended for just curly hair folks, this was the the way to shave before the Gillette Mach 9 razors and such. This is how John Wayne shaved! LOL. It's enjoyable and addicting. It can be expensive or cheap. You can cut the shit out of your face for awhile as well. Watch some tutorial videos and give it a shot. Don't buy high end products until you know for sure that's what you want.
I'm editing my shaving video now where I go over that, but I use Gilette Shaving Gel for Sensitive Skin. Only because the oil is already moisturizing my skin.
Good review. You should just keep the razor and swap out everything else. There is a huge wet-shave community here on TH-cam and elsewhere in social media. These TH-camrs review: Blades, Shaving creams, Lather brushes etc. Check out: Shaving with Rich, Nick Shaves, Friendship Shaving and Another Cut Above.
The trimmer is expensive and I'd only use it on my beard. So unless I see a great deal or receive one to review. I probably won't. I'm not against reviewing it though.
Yes, it has helped with that but you have to stay consistent. Their products are now on Targets website but the price isn't appealing right now. If price isn't an issue it's worth a try.
I bought this set and before this I was using a saftey razor that was only like 20 dollars but anyway in my opinion there wasn't much difference to me. In my opinion I think it's overpriced for even the razor system it's self. the only nice thing is its weighed pretty good but like I said before I would rather stick with my 20 dollar saftey razor and just use the same bevel blades than spend twice the amount on pretty much the same system.
The subscription base price for 3 months is terrible. To expensive . You can go on Amazon , get 100 blades for 8$ - 13$ and and a a safety razor for 20$- 55$ . All a one time cost. The 100 blades from Amazon will last you at least a year. I shave my head as well. The cremo shaving cream is excellent. The tube lasts 90 days and is 8 bucks at your drugstore and 7 on Amazon. No need to buy this over priced system and its redo lupus subscription.
Hey I enjoyed your review. Could you do a video on the techniques you use to shave your head? Safety razor or multi blade cheap shave gel or fancy, oil before shaving or not etc. Or you could just give me a quick reply by message. Thanks in advance!
tried it. got razor bumps as soon as i didn't shave every day. personally it's too irritating to shave every day on bare skin since I don't grow facial hair THAT fast. Not worth it, no real different than any other shave. back to trimmers I go.
Jamal Neptune lmao I agree man...u have to shave everyday so I call bullshit ...if I use a 3 blade system everyday I won't get bumps ...the moment I skip a day or so bumps...same with bevel!
I've never used this system, but I do use The Art Of Shaving's line. He said he could get shaving cream at Walmart for $3 and the blades much cheaper. Unless the Bevel stuff's low low low quality, there would be no comparison at all. I probably pay about a dollar a day to shave using my line up. I don't know how Bevel compares to TAOS, but I know TAOS is worlds better than anything you can get at Walmart. And while I do think the products I use are overpriced, I get fantastic results. I just can't imagine this line being even close to as shitty as the stuff Walmart sells. I'm on the fence about trying this, I'm not a man of color (obviously lol) but I am curious about this line. Sucks the only way you can get it is subscription. And If I run out of something I don't want to have to wait the remainder of the 90 days, but that's the only solution. That's an absolutely idiotic approach to doing business. I understand the subscription thing as a business model, but if I'm a subscriber, I can't order extra shit when I run out? Hella retarded.
+john williams Bevel will be in "select" Target stores in early 2016. I listened to a podcast of The Combat Jack Show with the company's founder and also saw this article www.fastcompany.com/3051620/the-fast-company-innovation-festival/tristan-walkers-walker-company-raises-24-million-scores That may be a better option for you than the subscription model.
Check out the wet shaving forums, you can get much better deals using comparable products, Astra SP blades are $18 for 200 blades. That's four years worth of blades for me, and shaving brushes and soaps are much cheaper/better with other products.
I started off only using a trimmer. Then I switched over to a razor for a closer shave. I only use a trimmer on my beard now but I'll go behind it with my razor afterwards.
I support several local Black businesses each week. The Bevel product is not Black owned. It uses a Black man as its face, so it can market to Blacks. The company never returned any of my emails asking if Mr. Walker owned the company. My understanding is that the investors who put up the money invested in the company to get into the Black market.
+TheTechMaster4u Great point. I'm not into their "for the black man" approach. Simply because of the many brothers of color and some white brothers having coarse and curly hair.
@@landosmith8389 ....Black people have hair texture that is completely different from all other races. Even if some people of other races have curly hair, the texture is completely different from people of sub-saharan African descent.
Other races and cultures support their own, to a point where they can put more money into the company and perfect it. This mentality is one of the reasons there aren't black owned or for blank companies. To my knowledge bevel is the only for black skin product. Compare that to the 'generic' companies Gillette, Wilkinson, Nivea the list goes on
I've been a Bevel subscriber for 7 months now..and i DO love it! My skin is nic free and nicely conditioned and smooth!
I came across your video around 5 am with nothing to do so I decided to view it. As I'm white with no interest in purchasing Bevel Shaving System , I let it fly.

Thanks for sharing the info, I'd like to know though : does this apply to pubic areas as well ? Like 1 blade is better than 3-5's
The high cost is due to the razor & brush. They'll last you years. Now you can just use regular store products, e.g. soaps & lotions etc.
Thanks for sharing! Did you notice a reduction in razor bumps using the Bevel system?

Why would I mention I wanted to try this because of razor bumps if that's not why I tried it? I wanted to try something different, so I did.
+Jose Mario ya agreed. He just moped about the price the whole time
will No I didn't.
+will my thoughts exactly!
Great video. love the honesty. is there a product you recommend, that is compared to the lotion ? I got the coconut oil, just need a lotion
I'm editing my shaving video now where I go over that, but I use Gilette Shaving Gel for Sensitive Skin. Only because the oil is already moisturizing my skin.
Oh ok. Thanks, can't wait to watch the new video. Thanks
Joseph Harris Its uploaded now.
+Scattered Brilliancy good looking. about to watch it now. thanks
The trimmer is out. Review please!!
The trimmer is expensive and I'd only use it on my beard. So unless I see a great deal or receive one to review. I probably won't. I'm not against reviewing it though.
Scattered Brilliancy I just saw on IG it just released? The blk and silver joint? Like how expensive is it? Thanks for all you do brother!!
CocoPimp 36 $179 I'm sure it's a great product but I'm not in the market for it at that price point. Over time hopefully it comes down.
A side from leaving your skin smooth, has it reduced or completely remedied your razor bumps, if you had any?
Yes, it has helped with that but you have to stay consistent. Their products are now on Targets website but the price isn't appealing right now. If price isn't an issue it's worth a try.
+Scattered Brilliancy thank you, great video.
Were you charged interest when you payed the 2nd & 3rd instalment?
No. If I remember correctly I received a discount for month 1 and paid the regular price months 2 & 3.
Sounds good, thank you!
Geat review.
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
i copped my kit plus extra razors off Amazon...
No need to buy this over priced system and its redo lupus subscription.
alansjf33 cheap ppl stfu plz
Hey I enjoyed your review. Could you do a video on the techniques you use to shave your head? Safety razor or multi blade cheap shave gel or fancy, oil before shaving or not etc. Or you could just give me a quick reply by message.
Thanks in advance!
I'll make a video about it this week. I can tell you now if you don't want to wait.
I'll make a video about it this week. I can tell you now if you don't want to wait.
I can wait. Thank you so much!
The video is uploaded.
Wow thank you so much! You are the best!
tried it. got razor bumps as soon as i didn't shave every day. personally it's too irritating to shave every day on bare skin since I don't grow facial hair THAT fast.
+Joshua Bulluck Now if it happens to come to my area I'll strongly consider using the products again depending on price.
Check out the wet shaving forums, you can get much better deals using comparable products, Astra SP blades are $18 for 200 blades. That's four years worth of blades for me, and shaving brushes and soaps are much cheaper/better with other products.
Do you normally shave with a razor? Im asking because I do not, I use a trimmers but I would like a cleaner shave.
I started off only using a trimmer. Then I switched over to a razor for a closer shave. I only use a trimmer on my beard now but I'll go behind it with my razor afterwards.
Iggy is that you.
Kwmaine Price Excuse me?
Taxstone!!!
He look like Lebrom James 😂
Negative.
This system is rip off.
Boar hair u mean pig hair
I meant badger.
Bottom line, for the most cause, it's to buy from a black owned company. Support are people
Just cause they black doesn't mean spend unnecessary money. Bottom line, sell a product and provide the best service for your consumers.
