16:00 I really appreciate how you bring up colorism. The author Jessa Hastings is white but identifies as an "Australian native" which I find a bit offensive as a Pacific Islander native. To say you are native to Oceania means that your ancestors are Pacific Islander and have been colonized by the West. Today, many of Oceania is still colonized (even Australia). And so for her to call herself a native really irks me.
I didn’t know she was supposed to black until her father was mentioned. Magnolia is biracial; her mother is white and her dad is black. While she is described as dark, the book is written by a white woman. And tan is considered dark in non black cultures🤷🏾♀️.
I see what you’re saying and I agree. It’s just that scene where Magnolia was talking about the white girl with a tan that was flirting with BJ. It doesn’t make sense if Magnolia was the same shade.
i absoutelyyy love your lip color and outfit with the buns!!! its cute af

“The socks” 😂

I think Bridget was there to remind the reader that the relationship between bj and magnolia is not aspirational.
