If I remember correctly, there is a Japanese company, that makes a whole bunches of anodized in various colors, aluminum parts for many Tamiya series cars while flag shipping the AVANTE... I think they sold their parts through RCSTORE or RCMART, something like that, back in the day?..... Please note, stuff is not cheap. But, if a guy wanted to build a chassis (including the drive train guts) they offered everything, in a performance factor, While offering a few completed chassis in I think 3 to 4 levels of setups, but their totally completed chassis with the best of everything, every part that they manufacture, end price was something like $5500.00 USD, LOL... They even used to offer a belt drive drive train system, Which, i never seen a picture of, as it was always labelled as "COMING SOON!!!" and by the time it likely came out (if it ever did) to be purchased in the civilian population, I had other life priorities to focus on... Thank you for the great video, as always.. I love being thrown back in to my older days of having a simple and peaceful mindset... Now the anxiety to mash the heck out of the throttle is really beating you up and your hands are shaking trying to start the servo horn screws back in straight, dropped the screws into the chassis's abyss ... Panic is setting in, as if the tiny screw few into a storm drain on the other side of the planet or something... You regain you composure, take a breath, calm down, grab the whole chassis, flip it upside down, and rap a few shakes into it, and you can hear the tiny screw banging around in there somewhere... finally, it falls out, bouncing all over the place, heading to the edge of the table, inturn towards the floor, which is just the next level of the abyss, and fearing you will need a search party team of experts to assist you in locating this one of a kind servo horn screw before the mission can continue (never mind, that thee was like 6 more in the extra parts bag, that would be way too logical to just use one of those)... So, yes, playing with these cars and trucks, as we did, just simply driving back and forth in straight lines, with maybe a few attempts to skid the car sideways, in hopes that somebody watching with think you have some mad driving skills and would come running to sign you up for sponsor ships, to allow you to tour the world.... I know that may sound selfish, but, my kids are grown up and starting their own lives and very likely, their own little families, I am just wanting to find a tiny place of calmness in my mind, that is for a short moment, simple, and that has no worry... some times I just want to turn the worry off. I have seen the worst of what mankind can do to others as per the theater of war, that keeps me up some nights, horrid dreams of the past, all of which, I know I would be able to tell my wife these stories, but, If I don't want to know these horrid things, I love my wife, why would I want her to have the save stuff in her head.. Some times, I just want to unplug from the world, and RC stuff, I choose to believe, will help me with that to bring me back to a mindset of my childhood innocence... A few more months and i should have much off my plate to start down this avenue again... Heck, I may even try to become a professional RC racer again, who knows (just kidding, that took all the fun out of RC stuff for me, never again doing the PRO circuit, that was my first mistake as a kid) .... Sorry Glen.... I think the majority of us are in the same boat as you when it comes to running the cars on tarmac!!! I’ve never raced. Just had friends back in the day who had fun and fast forward to today all we do with my son and daughter is go to a school yard and race or go to a small forest with our trucks and have lots fun! From a 14 year olds point of view just like you!! This is why you’re the best on TH-cam!!! You represent people gathered and enthusiasts like us !! So ThANK you !!!!!
I totally agree it’s all about fun for me, which can be anything from a Lunchbox to an Egress. All fun to run in their own unique way 😊😊 My favourite car for bashing round the garden at the moment is the Comical Avante, it’s a hoot!!!

I got a wee Christmas bonus and took that to the shop. As the box was faded they knocked 50 quid off! Result. A young 22 year old and proud owner of an Avante. I remember chucking a Le Mans motor in. Ran the new Tamiya radio gear paired with a Futaba RX. Loved that car and my second a Tamiya, first being an XR311. As far as I’m aware it’s in the loft of my ex GF.... I should really see if it’s still there hahaha.
I totally missed out on the golden age of RC as I was not even born yet. Thank you for the history lesson. Time for me to make my own memories with them :)
Always gawked at the Avante in the hobbie shop window, but, never could afford one. Thanks for the walk down memory lane with the evolution of all those Tamiya vehicles. While I loved all my Tamiya vehicles, I did eventually purchase a Kyosho Optima that completely smoked all my other vehicles in terms of performance. That said, to run any vintage vehicle still brings me right back to when I was much younger and I enjoy them for what they are. Always bring a smile to my face.
Best RC channel on the Tube! Thanks for the detail as always. I have never raced and just like running them in places I can find. I have a couple videos up from 12 years ago when out with my mate. All about fun for me.
Good morning Glen!!! Gotta be honest!! Not my favorite car but your videos are awesome and educational! Maybe you changed my mind again about this one. Again please don’t stop making videos. Thanks
your statement at 9:30 ish is spot on glenn....... sat mornings no school " id left by then but i digress " on the carpark you and your mates ragging round, pulling in adjusting tinkering, blasting it up the road trying to set the fastest times against your mates 125.... then going up the gravel pits racing.... hap hap happy days :D
Great video as always Glenn, as you rightly say its your money your car and you do what makes you happy and have fun! 👍 Looking forward to the next upload!
Great Vid mate. Got a black special to build but now I have the background as to how it has evolved. Keep up the great work mate your vids are just truly enjoyable and empower all of us enthusiasts. Top job mate.
Great video Glenn, I really hope you keep up the videos in some form. I think whoever it was hit the nail on the head. I just love the '11 yr olds' enthusiasm you have for the cars and you're right it is a compliment. Still can't decide what to do with my Avante rere though 🤣🤣
Great video. My second car and first build was a Vanquish, I bought it over the Terra Scorcher as I knew it was an evolution of the Avante chassis/gearbox, glad you included it in your video. I agree Avante is the old time most beautiful off roader 👍
Interesting topic Glenn. I like the game of comparisons between the different versions of the Avante. I am 46 years old and I returned to the world of RC certainly out of nostalgia, I owned a Super Sabre when I was 15-16 years old but also by discovering your channel which helped me to orient myself in this adventure. So I bought an Egress 2013 which I am quietly assembling and a DB-01 with lots of Hop-Up on with i will work next winter. I love assembling these things! Thanks and see you next time!
There was no shop within 400km of me with a tamiya. I lived thru the glorious catalogues. Each car so unique.. wanted them all.. Years later got a hornet. No race tracks, but mega fun running around by myself.. Noone around with a tamiya to race. The avant so much want! Mythical beast!
Great in depth comparison/review of Avante n co Glenn! Loved it! I never managed to own an Avante of any type, but i did own an Egress and it was epic!! Wish i still had it! I agree, the Avante is the best looking Tamiya of them all. Absolutely beautiful car, and looks like it's doing a million miles per hour just sat there! lol Wes, Liverpool, UK.
When I was a kid, I dreamt of that car but could not afford it. Oddly enough, looking at it 30+ years later it looks every bit as stunning and mystical as it did to my 12 year old eyes.
Absolutly love this type of video! I also really love that purple wing (sns) and the thickness of the tbg bodies! However, Tamiya should be sponcering this channel!!! Or at the very least, make you the Canadian ambassador! Nothing makes me want to buy another Tamiya like Mr. Glenn Barclay!!! And once again... thanks for everything!
I thought it was: Egress - Hi end race buggy. Avante 2001- mid range buggy. Vanquish- entry level buggy of that range. I had a Hotshot with a 15t mod motor, When the Kyosho Optima came out. My mate received an Optima for his birthday. Long story short, my Hotshot was faster so he wanted the same motor. So away we went, got the Optima a new 15t d motor. All was good for a while but then he had a lot of problems with the chain what would stretch & then snap! Kyosho kicked a##, when belt drive came out though. Cool video Glenn 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎
Working 3 paper rounds to pay for your RC Car habit, those were the days 😂. Various upgrades for my Manta Ray were my reward for dark winter nights delivering the local post.
I think it wasn't long enough. :) I bet you could make a mk2 video with stuff you know and didn't include. Always yearned for an Avante. Beautiful cars. Great video. ✌👍
What a car! A model shop near me had the 88 Avante on display in there window, built but with no paint or decals so you could see the chassis in all its glory. My mate and myself used the drool over this car as we were far too young to afford one and we were finding it difficult enough to convince our parents to buy us a tamiya kit car of any description let alone one as expensive as the Avante. A year or so later I was lucky enough to have an Avante 2001 and I started racing it at my local club :)))))) The 2001 was a great car to introduce someone to the sport and I thoroughly enjoyed racing it for a year or so before turning my back on Tamiya as far as racing was concerned and got a Yokomo dogfighter :| I think Tamiya introduced the 2001 as an entry level Egress bearing in mind the Egress was all singing and dancing with carbon, high caps and even titanium screws which made it more expensive than what Schumacher, Kyosho or Yokomo where offering at the time, ( hence my move to Yokomo) you still had the option of upgrading the 2001 to an egress if your pocket would allow it as all the trick Egress parts were available as hop-up options. I think the Avante is a legendary car and despite its lack of success on the track it put many a smile or our faces and i'm pleased to say is still doing so. Still loving the long format videos mate. Keep up the good work!! :)
Perfect sentiment about why and how we all individually think..and then run, our R/C cars. I couldn't afford an Avante back in the day either. My R/C adventure started with a Monster Beetle in 1988. I have just ordered an Avante to build and "back yard bash" as that is where I get my enjoyment out of the hobby. Oh...and don't tell the other half...I've also just ordered a HotShot rere...as that was a close second to the Monster Beetle back in the day. So Now that i have the disposable income, I am reliving my R/C adventure all over again. :)
When I first saw the Avante back when it first appeared in the hobby shop in the Scarborough Town Centre. They had 20 or Tamiya Boxes on the wall of various models and the Avante just stood out to me. I already had a Blackfoot and at the time and there was no way I could afford one. Still do not have one, but will soon!
I know where you're coming from with enjoying our hobby. I have race cars, on road and off road. I have scale cars and I have antique cars, shelf queens and NIB. From my Wild Willy that I got in '82, that is completely unpredictable and a real challenge to not tip over, or the Tyrrell P34 with it's RS380 may look slow but with no real suspension and steering inputs that are a gentle suggestion at best, is plenty quick. All the way to the ASC SC10.2T or Xray T4'20 that are lightning quick and razor sharp. I love them all for what they are.
I’m so glad you talked about the MK1 uprights as it was the weakness of the car and you could go weeks before Beeties would get anymore in . Hate to admit but due to that fault I transferred to Schumacher . Keep the good info coming.
Beautifully said, I’m like you all rc models have their own charm and I’m no pro rc racing driver I just love it and it is such a big part of my life and cars in general just apeals to me. Love to watch your youtube clips 😊👍
Great video. My first RC car. In the UK you didn’t get the Technigold in the kit. I went with the MC112B forward only speedo. Broke the front uprights in a few hours!
Appreciate your insight into the Avante Glenn. Like most I marvelled at it in my local hobby shop but had to make do with my well bashed Boomerang. Still never owned one but when funds allow it’s a must have!
Great video Glenn. I remember when the Avante first came out, I had an Optima Mid Custom at the time. The Avante was so expensive and out of my price range that I never seriously looked at it. A couple of years later I replaced my optima with an Avante 2001 which I loved, with high caps and Egress wheels etc. I always thought this was the poor mans Egress which I really wanted. I can totally relate to what you said about racing set up etc. I used to go to Sunday race meetings but the majority of my RC fun was driving on tarmac road outside my parents house for 4 minute intervals till the NiCd battery packs died. Fun times 😊
Love this video and thank you for showing and explaining these differences between the buggies, hope to see more videos and i know you are going to wind your channel down which is a shame.
Those Avantes are absolutely gorgeous! The blue is a great color! I really would love to have one like that to call my own. Hey, everybody has an opinion. I absolutely think you do great work with a wonderful grasp of what the hobby is all about. Doing what you like, making every project your own, sharing it with us AND ENJOYING ALL THE FUN!
Never had a Avante car but have heard good things about them....... I still own and will rebuild with new electronics my original Team Associated RC10 with its original gold aluminum belly pan.. I have owned an original Grasshopper and Hornet from Tamiya & have just purchased a Lancia Delta Integrale VX01Rally Car should be here in a week
Love your vids mate. You're a true passionate enthusiast, and it's infectious. You're right about the hobby. Got back into RC after 35yrs(!!) and I have that deep childhood weld to Tamiya. I'm not interested in anything else. And that's just fine for me. All hobbies have a contingent that take themselves way too seriously.
It simply is just a beautiful car, I loved the end 80's early 90's RC racing cars. I always had my fun Tamiya cars just or fun and had a Ultima Pro which was my racing car. I so remember the time Yokomo and Schumacher started dominating, before that the RC10 and losi's where the hot ones......but I had the most fun just driving these Tamiya's on the local BMX tracks.
Great video as always Glenn, I've been waiting for Avante content for ages being one of my all time favourites. I thought the Avante 2001 was an affordable Egress aimed at entry level club racers, I was never really into the racing scene much for me it was all about street runs with your mates back in the day.
They're stunning aren't they!!? Back in the day I'd already moved from Tamiya (Lunchbox and Celica GrB) to Kyosho (Optima Mid) so it wasn't on my radar, but now...!! 😍 Wish I hadn't sold them all
i had gen 1 avante when it first launched in the uk from beatties on order... soon as it hit the uk it was mine....... i was working so could afford " luxury cars " :D
Thank for the memory i miss mid 80's i start with grasshopper , blackfoot, the frog those are fun to bashing . racing i chose RC 10 Goldpan over Avante .
great video, again! 😀 so, some time ago, i came across a boxed(!) front upright spare set for the mk 1 avante, unfortunately i cannot post photos here... they are definitely the Same as you showed in the comparison.
I remember the tamiya catalogue had all the cars on a page but the avante had a showroom style presentation with the dynatech motor on display - the stance of the avante was just the business
I will be so happy when they rerelease Avante 2001 and vanquish. I have always liked 2001 but I agree, it would look even better with white narrow wheels and hi caps They basically have all the parts to make it now which the rere 2001 shell and Avante chassis so it’s a just a matter of time. I actually converted an egress 2013 into a 2001 with black cva’s , vanquish wheels and frp shock towers You can see it in my Tamiya club showroom The name on there is Xray mark and yes it was stunning .
I'm hoping for a re re on those 2 myself, I have an original 2001 but would love a new bumper and a couple of spare shells. Also the I can run a re re without worrying.
around '89 through '90 I would always see it at Hanson Hobby in Hanson, MA (and in RC Car Action of course). It looked awesome, I wanted it really bad but knew I could never afford it and didn't 'need' it. It was unlike any other Tamiya buggy before it. At the time I had an RC10 and a new RC10L. You are certainly correct no one actually raced it at the track other than messing around. Unless you had the money to buy more cars because they look cool it just made no sense to buy it - the Shumacher and Yokomo 4WD performed way better and made from better materials.
Great video 👍🏻 just got me a 2011 that was build. For now i just want too look at it. Planning to take it appart and rebuild it,i want to have build one . Still not sure if i will drive it ...
Oh they were the days Glen!!!. In 88 I was at the chingford car club on a Sunday morning hacking round with hornets and the like.. The Avante was a stunning thing and for me that 88 original is the only one.. of course like you I could never had afforded one I just had to stare at the tables of the lads that had one!!. Mind you I must say I remember clearly it was the optima’s that won most of the races at that club
1988 i was 13 going on 14 and i got a striker. Which i had a choice of hornet. Grasshopper.. and probably should have chosen the hornet for durability compared to the striker.. Avante was a catalogue dream..as was a large portion of the rest of said catalogue..
back in the day i really loved it and like you there was no way i was going to afford it.. i saved up and got a terra scorcher, which i really loved.. but i always wanted the avante.. i don't think i could do it justice these days though.
Love the channel. Just discovered my battered Hornet from the 80s when sorting garage. Reignited my interest. So many buggies I wanted but couldn't afford when I was 13. Looking to get another Hornet and a Hotshot to get my collection going and when released Avante (couldn't afford in the 80s) Can you recommend a reputable UK supplier to buy from. Keep up the good work. Really love the channel but my kids think I going mad. They just don't get it😂
Oh God naked Avantes I could watch this stuff all day long! I bought an 88 a few years back - it was kinda ugly & beat up. The previous owner had flipped the rear arms so that the shocks mounted up high so the rear was way up in the air - also I think the front shocks were mounted in the bottom holes in the front bulkheads. It had a very goofy looking stance to say the least! Fortunately it was all reversible and with a few new parts it’s in good running shape now. Sometimes I pull it off the shelf and sit & stair at it on the kitchen table - my girlfriend thinks I’m batshit crazy 😀 I agree most beautiful RC car ever made hands down!
I think I commented this before on one of your videos, but I really wish Tamiya would return to making High-End buggies; the DF-03 is 14 years old now and the DB series doesn't exist anymore :(
@@TAMIYALegends A DB03 would be an instant buy for me, I just bought my first "high end" Tamiya, a XV01 Subaru and holy moly this thing is awesome to drive around! I am sadly not so much into On-Road and the XV01 was an exception because it's a Rally chassis. I have been thinking about buying a TC01, but have no idea where to drive it :(
Man I would love an Egress and Avante, bought a boomerang hornet and Terra scorcher rere and love them all. My mate bought an avante new and it came without the motor possibly in 90,s, I ended up lending him my technigold. Defo not the first release as he was much older by then and my boomerang was long since dead
Brilliant video! Because I'm a Avante nut probably the best video so far👍 I have all them mk1,2 and re-re and black special and egress, they are the only avante's!! the egress is a welcome addition to the Avante family but the rest although very good just don't compare and I can't understand the people who buy the avante 2001 body to swap for the egress?? Why do that the egress is far better looking! Just one thing I noticed when building the black special (second edition) is all the brass spacers are replaced with alloy spacers (just something I noticed)
Dream buggy for me. I don't think I will ever have the spare funds to justify owning one for myself but I can dream lol. 2011 or black edition would be my choice.

That will then be tough to decide, which one to take home: The GF or the Avante 😂
I'll check for you next time I'm up there 😆
My friend i'd be right on the phone to my ex demanding that Avante back!! lol
Second that....just ask for the Avante, she can even post it 😀
This is the kind of vid I've been waiting for, history and a bit of context for all of us sad old gits.. 😅
lol James 😂

Excellent it’s so cool you are interested in them 🤩🤩🤩
Fantastic video Glenn. One can never have too much information about the Avante family.
Thanks for watching my friend 🤩👊🏻
Always gawked at the Avante in the hobbie shop window, but, never could afford one. Thanks for the walk down memory lane with the evolution of all those Tamiya vehicles. While I loved all my Tamiya vehicles, I did eventually purchase a Kyosho Optima that completely smoked all my other vehicles in terms of performance. That said, to run any vintage vehicle still brings me right back to when I was much younger and I enjoy them for what they are. Always bring a smile to my face.
Excellent comment my friend I enjoyed reading it 😊😊😊
Best RC channel on the Tube! Thanks for the detail as always. I have never raced and just like running them in places I can find. I have a couple videos up from 12 years ago when out with my mate. All about fun for me.
ALL ABOUT FUN FOR ME
perfectly put my friend 🤩👊🏻
Good morning Glen!!! Gotta be honest!! Not my favorite car but your videos are awesome and educational! Maybe you changed my mind again about this one. Again please don’t stop making videos. Thanks
Thanks Chris 🤩👊🏻
I love your videos! It always makes my day if a new one comes out.
Excellent thanks for the lovely comment my friend 🤩👊🏻
your statement at 9:30 ish is spot on glenn....... sat mornings no school " id left by then but i digress " on the carpark you and your mates ragging round, pulling in adjusting tinkering, blasting it up the road trying to set the fastest times against your mates 125.... then going up the gravel pits racing.... hap hap happy days :D
Absolutely my friend, that’s what it was and continues to be for me 😊😊😊
Great video as always Glenn, as you rightly say its your money your car and you do what makes you happy and have fun! 👍 Looking forward to the next upload!
Thanks for watching my friend, it’s much appreciated 😊👊🏻
Another great vid mate thanks loving all the cars be good to see the Black top stuff ; )
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
Great Vid mate. Got a black special to build but now I have the background as to how it has evolved. Keep up the great work mate your vids are just truly enjoyable and empower all of us enthusiasts. Top job mate.
Thanks Gareth 🤩👊🏻
Awesome.....learnt so much! AMAZING viewing!
Thanks for watching Paul 😊👊🏻
Great video Glen! Thanks for the Avante history lesson! Rock on!!
Thanks Vinny 😊👊🏻
Great video Glenn, I really hope you keep up the videos in some form. I think whoever it was hit the nail on the head. I just love the '11 yr olds' enthusiasm you have for the cars and you're right it is a compliment.
Still can't decide what to do with my Avante rere though 🤣🤣
Excellent thanks for watching Tony 😊👊🏻
Great video. My second car and first build was a Vanquish, I bought it over the Terra Scorcher as I knew it was an evolution of the Avante chassis/gearbox, glad you included it in your video. I agree Avante is the old time most beautiful off roader 👍
Thanks Martin 🤩👊🏻
Interesting topic Glenn. I like the game of comparisons between the different versions of the Avante. I am 46 years old and I returned to the world of RC certainly out of nostalgia, I owned a Super Sabre when I was 15-16 years old but also by discovering your channel which helped me to orient myself in this adventure. So I bought an Egress 2013 which I am quietly assembling and a DB-01 with lots of Hop-Up on with i will work next winter. I love assembling these things! Thanks and see you next time!
Thanks so much for watching Pascal, your support is much appreciated my friend 😊👊🏻
Just watched that - so informative and excellently produced as usual. Please keep doing them Glen
John Penfound
Thanks John 😊👊🏻
Thanks Wes 😊😊😊
When I was a kid, I dreamt of that car but could not afford it. Oddly enough, looking at it 30+ years later it looks every bit as stunning and mystical as it did to my 12 year old eyes.
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Absolutly love this type of video! I also really love that purple wing (sns) and the thickness of the tbg bodies! However, Tamiya should be sponcering this channel!!! Or at the very least, make you the Canadian ambassador! Nothing makes me want to buy another Tamiya like Mr. Glenn Barclay!!! And once again... thanks for everything!
Thanks Peter, your channel support is greatly appreciated my friend 😊😊😊
These looks so awesome Glenn mate these would be shelf Queens👊👍😊🇬🇧😎
Thanks buddy 😎👊🏻
Wow I’m just loving these Tamya legend cars I’m loving life watching your videos 👍🏻
I thought it was:
Egress - Hi end race buggy.
Excellent comment my friend 😊😊😊
Working 3 paper rounds to pay for your RC Car habit, those were the days 😂.
Various upgrades for my Manta Ray were my reward for dark winter nights delivering the local post.
Hey I have the bent back to prove it 🤪👊🏻
Awesome! Well done Glenn! My one and only car :D
Well if you’re only going to have one car, then the Avante is the one you 🤩🤩🤩
Great video Glen, huge Avante fan so great to get into the details etc.
Thanks Duncan 🤩👊🏻
Great vidEo, agree completely that it's the best looking tamiya available,.
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
I think it wasn't long enough. :)
I bet you could make a mk2 video with stuff you know and didn't include.
Always yearned for an Avante.
Beautiful cars.
Great video.
✌👍
Thanks for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
Avante ❤️. My first Tamiya. Now own 1988, 2001 and 2011 Avantes.
Excellent 😊😊😊
Awsome Vid mate, cannot belive I missed this one! so tempting to get an Avante and I can see why these are your fav tamiya
You need the Avante in your life my friend 😍😍😍
@@TAMIYALegends Mate my wife has bought me one without me knowing!
Love it. Thanks for another great video. Love it when you talk about the history or these amazing buggies. Really brings me back to my childhood.
A year or so later I was lucky enough to have an Avante 2001 and I started racing it at my local club :)))))) The 2001 was a great car to introduce someone to the sport and I thoroughly enjoyed racing it for a year or so before turning my back on Tamiya as far as racing was concerned and got a Yokomo dogfighter :|
I think Tamiya introduced the 2001 as an entry level Egress bearing in mind the Egress was all singing and dancing with carbon, high caps and even titanium screws which made it more expensive than what Schumacher, Kyosho or Yokomo where offering at the time, ( hence my move to Yokomo) you still had the option of upgrading the 2001 to an egress if your pocket would allow it as all the trick Egress parts were available as hop-up options. I think the Avante is a legendary car and despite its lack of success on the track it put many a smile or our faces and i'm pleased to say is still doing so.
Still loving the long format videos mate. Keep up the good work!! :)
What a superb comment my friend 😊😊😊
Great comment my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Cool video. Epic car! Thank You!!!
Thanks for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
GREAT CAR! It's amazing that Tamiya made this car as a race car (successful or not) and was so gorgeous!
Absolutely my friend this car is a thing of Beauty 🤩🤩🤩
I know where you're coming from with enjoying our hobby. I have race cars, on road and off road. I have scale cars and I have antique cars, shelf queens and NIB. From my Wild Willy that I got in '82, that is completely unpredictable and a real challenge to not tip over, or the Tyrrell P34 with it's RS380 may look slow but with no real suspension and steering inputs that are a gentle suggestion at best, is plenty quick. All the way to the ASC SC10.2T or Xray T4'20 that are lightning quick and razor sharp. I love them all for what they are.
Excellent comment my friend, perfectly put 🤩👊🏻
great video, lots of good info thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
Fantastic video, top notch! Great research and presentation. You're a true enthusiast!
Bloody Marvelous. Thanks Glen! Gauranga.
Matt McLafferty
Thanks Matt 👊🏻
I could just watch these vids forever so relaxing
Really informative and interesting perspective on re:re changes - very thorough!
Thanks Rob 🤩👊🏻
@8:00 great comment
There are those into R/C for racing and competition, and those into it for the hobby and joy
I’m here for the fun my friend 😊😊
Great video. My first RC car. In the UK you didn’t get the Technigold in the kit. I went with the MC112B forward only speedo. Broke the front uprights in a few hours!
Lol James 😂
Yep those were really weak 😬
I loved this car but my fav was the frog, hours of fun....top vid
Great video. Really appreciate the comparison and history. Please do more of these.
I can't but just admire this guy's attitude.
Thank you 😊
Appreciate your insight into the Avante Glenn. Like most I marvelled at it in my local hobby shop but had to make do with my well bashed Boomerang. Still never owned one but when funds allow it’s a must have!
Thanks Wade 😊👊🏻
Well hopefully I’ll pick up some more Patreons to keep the channel going 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I love your geeky passion. Pleasure to watch these Avante videos.
That was really good, love hearing the history.
Thanks Kieren 🤩👊🏻
Never had a Avante car but have heard good things about them....... I still own and will rebuild with new electronics my original Team Associated RC10 with its original gold aluminum belly pan.. I have owned an original Grasshopper and Hornet from Tamiya & have just purchased a Lancia Delta Integrale VX01Rally Car should be here in a week
Angry Yank RC
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Got myself the Mk1 Avante. Been watching these vids lately.. :)

Excellent thanks for watching my friend 😎👊🏻
Glenn I'm with you mate. Love running them in the local car park
It’s whatever makes us happy my friend 😊😊😊
@@TAMIYALegends couldn't agree more mate
Tamiya From MALAYSIA Years 1990's. Salam from Nizam Batang Kali Hulu Selangor Malaysia. Good info bro
i brought the avante back in the 80s when it first was released, it was stolen from me and i still miss it to this day.
Cracking video Glenn, really informative ;)
Andy Robinson RC
Thanks Andy 😊👊🏻
Great video as always Glenn, I've been waiting for Avante content for ages being one of my all time favourites. I thought the Avante 2001 was an affordable Egress aimed at entry level club racers, I was never really into the racing scene much for me it was all about street runs with your mates back in the day.
Excellent yeah that a good point regarding the 2001 😊👊🏻
They're stunning aren't they!!?
Back in the day I'd already moved from Tamiya (Lunchbox and Celica GrB) to Kyosho (Optima Mid) so it wasn't on my radar, but now...!! 😍 Wish I hadn't sold them all
Thanks for watching buddy 😎👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends thanks for the content!
I agree it was a compliment. Misunderstandings are abundant when communicating through text as opposed to through spoken words.
i had gen 1 avante when it first launched in the uk from beatties on order... soon as it hit the uk it was mine....... i was working so could afford " luxury cars " :D
Excellent 🤩🤩🤩
Thank for the memory i miss mid 80's i start with grasshopper , blackfoot, the frog those are fun to bashing . racing i chose RC 10 Goldpan over Avante .
RC10 🤩🤩🤩
great video, again! 😀 so, some time ago, i came across a boxed(!) front upright spare set for the mk 1 avante, unfortunately i cannot post photos here... they are definitely the Same as you showed in the comparison.
Alexander Karl
Excellent there rare now my friend 😊👊🏻
Great video awesome cars.
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
I remember the tamiya catalogue had all the cars on a page but the avante had a showroom style presentation with the dynatech motor on display - the stance of the avante was just the business
Avante is a Legend as are you Glenn 10 year old or not we are all just big 10 year olds really...right😉👍
Absolutely my friend 🤩🤩🤩
I will be so happy when they rerelease Avante 2001 and vanquish. I have always liked 2001 but I agree, it would look even better with white narrow wheels and hi caps
They basically have all the parts to make it now which the rere 2001 shell and Avante chassis so it’s a just a matter of time.
I actually converted an egress 2013 into a 2001 with black cva’s , vanquish wheels and frp shock towers You can see it in my Tamiya club showroom
The name on there is Xray mark and yes it was stunning .
I'm hoping for a re re on those 2 myself, I have an original 2001 but would love a new bumper and a couple of spare shells. Also the I can run a re re without worrying.
Fingers crossed my friend 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
around '89 through '90 I would always see it at Hanson Hobby in Hanson, MA (and in RC Car Action of course).
Great comment my friend 😊👊🏻
Great video 👍🏻 just got me a 2011 that was build. For now i just want too look at it. Planning to take it appart and rebuild it,i want to have build one . Still not sure if i will drive it ...
Excellent my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Oh they were the days Glen!!!. In 88 I was at the chingford car club on a Sunday morning hacking round with hornets and the like.. The Avante was a stunning thing and for me that 88 original is the only one.. of course like you I could never had afforded one I just had to stare at the tables of the lads that had one!!. Mind you I must say I remember clearly it was the optima’s that won most of the races at that club
Thanks Darren yep same at my local Sunday club, the top guy who won everything ran a Optima Pro 🤩👊🏻
😁👍 BEAUTY!
Thanks buddy 🤩👊🏻
Absolutely an awesome video I’m actually lucky enough to have a Mac -1 and a Mac-2 are you still considering selling original Avante body set
Yeah I probably will move it on, are you interested buddy?
Hi Glenn yes I was interested?
1988 i was 13 going on 14 and i got a striker. Which i had a choice of hornet. Grasshopper.. and probably should have chosen the hornet for durability compared to the striker..
Avante was a catalogue dream..as was a large portion of the rest of said catalogue..
Yep I totally can relate to that buddy 👊🏻
back in the day i really loved it and like you there was no way i was going to afford it.. i saved up and got a terra scorcher, which i really loved.. but i always wanted the avante.. i don't think i could do it justice these days though.
I can sooooo relate to this comment my friend 😊👊🏻
Love the channel. Just discovered my battered Hornet from the 80s when sorting garage. Reignited my interest. So many buggies I wanted but couldn't afford when I was 13. Looking to get another Hornet and a Hotshot to get my collection going and when released Avante (couldn't afford in the 80s) Can you recommend a reputable UK supplier to buy from. Keep up the good work. Really love the channel but my kids think I going mad. They just don't get it😂
I was working on my new Windigo kit as I listened to this.
kenneth welty
I’ll have to Google that one 🤔
Great vid 👍
Thank you 😊
Hi Glenn, the king of tamiya
Just looks good and in the subaru blue
Great video and very honest
I think I commented this before on one of your videos, but I really wish Tamiya would return to making High-End buggies; the DF-03 is 14 years old now and the DB series doesn't exist anymore :(
Yeah I agree I’m really hoping we see a DB03 soon 🤩🤷🏼♂️
It is kind-of funny you said that about the Avante Black edition. It is easier to the the Black over the original Avante right now.
Yes you’re right the 2011 is getting harder to find now 😬
Brilliant video!
Excellent comment Phil 🤩👊🏻
I just got a notification yesterday the Avante is being re released by Tamiya again? Oh boy im on the pre order if i can find it.
deno zed
Excellent 🤩🤩🤩
Dream buggy for me. I don't think I will ever have the spare funds to justify owning one for myself but I can dream lol. 2011 or black edition would be my choice.
Yeah they are so dam expensive 😞. Thanks as always for watching Matt 😊👊🏻
Did Tamiya made a car that could win on the racetrack? 30 years ago i had The Falcon, Grashopper, Cloud Buster. Loved them all.
I really want an Avante now!!!
Excellent everyone needs an Avante in the collection 🤩🤩🤩
@@TAMIYALegends I’m so glad they are doing another production run of them, just hope I can afford one!!! I wish they’d do another run of Egress’s too.
