Either buy 8" baking sheet circles (what we do now) or easier is cut a square of parchment paper, fold in half, in half again, in half again creating a thin long triangle. Then hold to the middle of your pan and snip the 1" triangle at the length from the middle of the pan. Open up and you will have a perfect circle. No pen needed and trying to cut along a circular line 💙. Great video. Loved it ❤️ x

Good chocolate cake recipe i use that everyone raves about is , ingredients 200gm plain flour, 40gm cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 180gms caster sugar, 2 large eggs, 80gm softened salted butter, 240ml milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence. Method. Mix dry ingredients together with butter so it looks like sand. Mix wet ingredients together in a jug. Now add half wet ingredients to dry and mix until just combined, then add rest of wet ingredients. It will look runny, don't worry about that, its how it should be. Now place in either 12 to 16 cupcake wrappers ( number depends upon size of wrapper) or 1 8" cake tin that has been greased and lined with baking paper. Bake in a pre heated 170c oven for 18 to 20mins for cupcakes( they should spring back when touched in middle or have a clean toothpick when inserted and pulled out) or 45 to 55mins for cake( cake should have shrunk slightly from side and again have clean skewer when inserted into cake). Leave to cool completely before icing. A great icing is 1 part salted butter to 1 1/2 parts sifted icing sugar ( eg 250gm butter to 375gm icing sugar) and 1 to 2 heaped tablespoons of cocoa powder. Add a couple of tablespoons of milk depending upon how thick you want icing, you need to add more milk for spreading consistency that piping and also depending upon weather, add more in winter and less in summer.

Hi guys. If you haven't got a pen or pencil to drawer around tin, just fold baking paper in half ,then in half again. Keep folding until you get a triangle shape. Hold over tin so it is half way across tin. This will show you where to cut or tear the paper, so that when you unfold it,you have a circle shape. Also use spray oil, the 1cal stuff to easily grease your tins. You should spray tins ,before adding baking powder. When making box cake mixes, dump all inge into bowl at same time, then mix. Mixing 1 ingredient in at a time,runs the risk of a rubbery cake, as you over develop the gluten in the flour, which you don't want for cakes

Pete you did a great job with the cake. Just add more filling in the middle next time. Other things you could do, is, Instead of adding 100’s & 1000’s you could drizzle some melted white, milk or dark chocolate on the top over the buttercream on the lid of the cake. A trick I learned to make my cake a little more special (for special occasions) was to get a couple of boxes of Cadbury chocolate fingers spread some buttercream around the side of the cake then stand the choc fingers up around the cake. Emily will be even more impressed. It’s very easy to make cake, you’re bright enough you could do it easily, you’re an intelligent man and do many things, your a great cook. Although you may not have baked much before, at least you’re willing. My husband is a can’t cook won’t cook man and we’ve been married 34 years.
Look up 'Joy of Baking' on TH-cam chocolate cake - it is perfect...plus these tubs of chocolate if you just heat it a wee bit it makes it more spreadable Pete 🤗

Yes you mixed it too much. And you need to put a bunch of the icing on and then spread it out, you will rip the cake.
