The oldest writings on the ancient city of Didim belong to around 500 BC. The first settlement in the region is thought to date back to 8 thousand BC, to the Neolithic period. It was used more as a sanctuary than a city, and many temples and monasteries were built in the area.
The Temple of Apollo, located in the ancient city of Didim, has a very important place. This is a temple and prophecy center dedicated to Apollo, the god of light and sun. At the time it was built, the Temple of Apollo was reached by a road of approximately 16.5 km, which came here from the ancient city of Miletus and called the sacred road. Today, this path is being tried to be revealed again.
In the past, many seers in the temple used to tell fortunes, interpret the future and make offerings. In other words, Pagan rituals were held here before Christianity spread. This temple lost its former importance when prophecy was banned during the reign of Theodisios in 385 AD. However, when you go to it today, the two pillars that have not lost anything of their majesty are guiding those who want to feel the past. Didim is the third largest temple in the world after the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and the Temple of Heraionu in Samos in ancient times. This Temple of Apollo and the snake-haired female monster Medusa statues will be a reason to come here.
Didim Altinkum Beach
Didim Altinkum Beach is one of the favorite places of holidaymakers. Altınkum Beach, which is 750 meters long and 15 meters wide, is located in the center of Didim. The beach has a blue flag award.
Besides the places where you can sit, eat and drink around Altınkum beach, there are also economical accommodation places in the vicinity. Altinkum beach, with its non-deepening sea, suitable for those who cannot swim and children, where you can sit on the sun loungers and use the showers, are ideal places for you to have a holiday.
How to Go to Altinkum Beach
If you are going to Altınkum Beach from outside the city, you must first reach Aydın bus station, and you need to come to Didim by taking the buses that go to Didim district from the bus station. You can go to the beach from Didim with the minibuses of Altınkum town. If you are going to move with your private car, you can go to Didim via Bodrum road and follow the Altinkum signs from Didim city center to reach the beach.
