I slid into this video to make sure that none of the books I loved were on here, phew. I'm in the clear! And naturally I had to stick around to cackle about 'The Wheel of Time' 😁Maybe next year you'll have more dnf's under your belt and you can do a video about those!
I think there's only a few of these that might actually be people's favourite books. I both want more dnfs and I don't because I'd rather just pick better books :P
I’ll still try northern lights at some point since I have it but it’s def not high priority at this point 😛 my lowest rated books from last year were two bridgerton books because of inevitable man-does-horrible-thing moments, but there’s only 2 more in the series so I’ll still try them eventually 😅
I'm a character-focused reader, and Fragile Threads of Power for me was..... fine? It was my first VE Schwab, and honestly I was ticked off with how much time they spent with the old characters (I could tell which characters were from the original series because they were SO flat. I think Schwab expected the reader to already be familiar with and love those characters)
Ooh, interesting to hear from a character-focused reader who didn’t love it. I think most of the character-focused readers I’ve seen who loved this were ones who had already loved the first trilogy, so your perspective is interesting. I agree that the book leant very heavy on the idea that you already love these characters and as a result it didn’t really have enough substance of it’s own.
I haven't read any of these, but you do have me concerned for the Philip Pullman books which I want to read eventually. They sound really not great lol
I really thought the Philip Pullman series was going to be a lot better based on how many people I'd heard say they loved it as a kid! I guess it's just a sign that none of us have good taste as kids lol
I did finish WoT and enjoyed the last few books more. I surprised by that. But it will not make my top favorite high series by any means... because that was hard work, and I dont think reafing half a series before finding book joy should be that way. I thought the show was okay, and actually agree with you on the core of the story being there in the adaptation.... though in my humble opinion I felt the books were better, especially the final battle. I didn't run out to get the Day of Fallen Night... I felt Priory was enough of that world for me. My most disappointing of 2023 were 2 steamy Romance novels... and I think I'll stick to authors I know when feeling the mood for love... 📖🥰📚

It's worth a try, and the first book in the series is the best one... but the writing is ehhhhh. Stupid men doing horrible things!
