The scene where Mantis puts her hand on Drax and immediately starts sobbing breaks my heart, every time. That for me is the most emotional scene in the movie.
It's so good because they made Drax such a lighthearted and silly character this time around that it started to feel like they were gonna just forget about his past, then that happens. Absolutely devastating.
In the comics in particular, Drax's biggest (or one of them) ability is his near-indestructability, in the first movie they most clearly demonstrated this when he was hanging out in Celestial digestive fluids in Knowhere, that would have dissolved pretty much anybody else and it was barely more than water to him.
@@sertaki it could be, im taking its color at face value (bile/stomach) and at least the implication that Ronan thought it was lethal when he threw him in.
As a boy who never met my biological father this movie hit me hard in several ways. It was so far out there in the deep sci-fi yet it's emotional tones were very real. Including a strained step father relationship. I love this movie so much.
I will say that Drax and Gamora are much more durable than humans, Which is why drax can get flung into stuff over and over and not really feel much of it. And as to Yondu's Death, it is trying to find 2 people in an area the size of a planet, even a small planet doesnt make that easy/quick to traverse or necessarily find someone.
I guess I had never thought about it that way, with them being blasted from the core of the planet it's possible they could have gone any direction. I always pictured them flying upwards in the exact same direction the ship went, but maybe they didn't.
While the MCU is different than the comic books, the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe strength level: Thor - 100 tons Drax - 50 tons Cap - 800 lbs Gamora is unclear. It does say that her strength has been compared to Spider-Man's. Which would put her around 10 tons. With the greater strength comes greater muscle, tissue & bone density. (Drax is stated to be 6'4" & 680 lbs) Allowing for greater impacts to be withstood. Take it with a huge grain of salt. Characters get powered up & down as needed and these characters are much different than the counterparts....and it is make believe. Here ends the geek lecture. lol Edit: This may or may not represent me. th-cam.com/video/nF_6OfgbF7c/w-d-xo.html
Actually, there's another reason they did the opening sequence with Groot: It IS cute, but it's to show how the group dynamic is AROUND baby Groot, and where they're all at by this point
It's also because the main theme of the movie is family. So they set it up by beginning the movie with all of them being parental figures to baby Groot.
@@LocalMaple true, that is definitely up there with others like the "We'll lose/Then we'll do that together too" line. Why is Gamora is probably my favorite comedic line in the MCU.
Kraglin's reaction when he realizes the Ravagers show their respect to Yondu as one of their own gets me every time. For me THIS is the best acting in the whole movie.
I read this and immediately heard it with a walking bass in the background and accented with some drums using brush sticks and ended by the speaker walking off playing a jazzy tune on a sax or a trumpet. I'm sure I didn't explain myself well but in my head it sounds snazzy as fuck.
best moment of the film, sad that it was kinda passed by in the reaction as i think its the most important part, it was weird that for the first two thirds of the film i though it was 'OK' but the last third fully earns its place as a worthy sequel, also missed was the funniest line..... "I'm Mary Poppins y'all"
Just a quick clarification. Ego isn't the guy played by Kurt Russell. Ego IS the planet. He is generally referred to as "Ego the living planet". He basically just made a human-like form to interact with humans.
Just to add: In the comics, Ego the living planet wasn't a Celestial. He also wasn't an Elder of the Universe (like he once claimed to be). The MCU is the Universe 199999 continuity, and Marvel's primary universe is the 616 continuity so there will always be differences.
@@houseofaction Technically to be an official Elder, you have to be the only remaining member of an otherwise extinct ancient race. Ego does not qualify as there are others considered a part of his race (Alter Ego & Id, the selfish Moon).
"Drax wouldnt survive this, its not believable" as he gets banged around the trees during a crash landing. However, she had no issues with him jumping into the maw of a space monster.
No, Nat. Thor is lower on the rankings than Ego (in the MCU at least). Odin himself said “we are not gods” in Thor. Celestials in Marvel are pretty much he top-tier. And though Ego the Living Planet isn’t a Celestial in the comics, that designation gives him a certain degree of importance in the universe. 🤷🏽♂️
Ego, at least on Earth 616 (comic book Earth), is not a God, just a planet that has somehow become sentient. In the MCU they tweaked things a little because most don't know what a Celestial really is (try a 2000 foot tall God that wears an armor and is obsessed with creating life), but for the movie purposes he's a Celestial
@@LoopikCZE The full reactions, for most of these people dropping patreons, are audio-only, and you watch the movie on your own, with their audio playing, so far as I've ever understood it.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to listen to reviews of a film before it is watched, especially if those reviews don’t do the film justice, because it seems to have a negative impact on the reactions. That’s how it felt.
Yeah, when I finished her reaction and she said it wasn't as good, that's what I felt too. I thought on first viewing it was every bit as good as the first, that it built on the first wonderfully. I think when you sit with both for a while, sure, I'll take the first as the "better" movie in and of itself, but the second really did build on it well and continued to develop characters and relationships in a really satisfying way, so I'm surprised anybody would have it as clearly worse after first viewing.
@@SchulzEricT Yeah, definitely! I came to that conclusion once all the other films were watched too. I guess it didn’t help with the TH-cam edit, that most of the funny bits that were very enjoyable were cut from the edit too! I still think Nat is one of the best and genuine with her reactions in all her videos, but something was a little ‘off’ from the very beginning, which must have been the negativity she read/viewed about the film. Either way, it was still enjoyable to watch.
Nope. I am in complete agreement with Natalie on this. In my first viewing of vol 2, I had heard great things about the movie and found myself quite disappointed in it. I like the first movie significantly more and this second Guardians movie is actually one of my least favorite Marvel movies. So Natalie's opinions are completely valid.
6:09 Most people I see react to this almost seem to forget that Gammora has been augmented by technology and other messed up shit, so it makes sense that she can hold onto Drax like that without getting her arms torn off. Drax is also not human, so...he's gonna be fine. :)
She has the strength to hold on perfectly fine, but the force of the pull should have sent her flying out of the ship instantly considering how little she weighs.
@@valnain It's all in the foundation and stance. Squats and sitting in a horse stance for hours. If your stance is wrong, a person can knock you over with a small shove but with proper technique, they will be the one being laughed at. All kidding aside... @@stanleymyrick4068 Nah, it's no big deal. I just think it's a little weird that people almost always focus on and nitpick the more realistic and believable of two fantastical superhero feats.
One thing to note was that every, and I mean EVERY trailer leading up to this movie had the "Don't push this button" scene. So when I saw this in theaters, and Groot finally managed to push the correct button, the whole theater cheered!!
"Drax wouldn't survive that. This is too unbelievable for me." She's this deep into the MCU and still doesn't realize that these aren't just normal people. Super powers lady. Drax has super powers.
I haven't watched the full video yet but having watched the film recently i immediately think i know which bit is being referenced so i do understand her to an extent. I had similar thoughts. Like i accepted he was fine but it was a LOT. Yeah they have super powers but you still need some boundaries or there's no sense of jeopardy.
@@DouglasBanksgoham errrmm..for the film to mean anything to me whatsoever and for me to actually care about what's going on? It's like establishing that no one can pick up Thor's hammer so that it means something when someone does. Films don't have to be..either fully real world logical realistic or...literally anything goes whether it makes sense or not because they weren't going for realism anyway. Yondu died because there was only one suit and he gave it to Peter. If he'd have just not died and been like "actually I'm fine because this movie has aliens in it so who cares what's realistic and what isn't" you'd be bothered hahah
Exactly, and he CAN survive that, because the movie just showed him surviving that. It bugs me when someone who has never read a Marvel comic thinks she knows the characters better than the writer/director.
@@Rocket1377 just because someone survived something in a movie doesn't mean that it is consistent through what they have shown in the past. not saying drax couldn't survive that, its just not always "correct"
Fun Fact: Drax was a Human named Arthur Douglas whose spirit was placed in a new body by Kronos after Thanos killed his family. For those not in the comic know.
as for the ridiculousness you pointed out in the beginning about the crash landing, you have to understand that Drax and Gamora are a different species that are way more durable than humans. that's probably another reason why thanos actually adopted gamora. I even think this scene was intended to show how durable their bodies are compared to others.
Michael Rooker can redeem himself as a character in 20 minutes or less and break your heart. It's happened before, and I truly hope it happens again: seriously underrated actor.
In TOMBSTONE he started out as one of the Cowboys and was later on Wyatt Earp's side. In THE WALKING DEAD, he was Merle. What else is there to say? He was often . . . unpleasant, to put it mildly, but his death was epic!
Yeah, I think it built on the first one wonderfully. As objectively as we can judge, the first one was probably better as a standalone experience, but the second was a fantastic follow-up despite a few flaws (that we're more than willing to overlook because of how great the series, and movie, was).
@@SchulzEricT honestly i think guardians 2 was the better one because in 1 the villain was low key trash but in 2 Ego is a great villain and yondu has such a compelling narrative of redemption in his relationship to peter where as in 1 he was just a greddy asshole. And the humor is about the same between the two movies. So yeah i'd say 2 is slightly better than 1
@@insertnamehere2746 Honestly, I don't think you're giving Yondu enough credit in the first movie. He always had a complicated relationship with Peter. His story arch in the second is fantastic though.
I think Drax feels a connection with Mantis because she reminds him of his _actual_ daughter Heather. Heather becomes the hero Moondragon, although Drax doesn't know this yet. Drax was originally a human named Arthur Douglas. Arthur was killed by Thanos, then his spirit was placed in a basically indestructible body (by Thanos' father Mentor and a Titan god named Kronos) as a weapon to kill Thanos, and renamed him Drax the Destroyer. This caused some problems with Arthur's memories and personality. He thinks his daughter is dead, but she was really raised by Mentor and trained by monks in mental powers. She is supposed to be a more powerful telepath than Professor X himself. In fact, it is Arthur and his wife who died and Heather (Moondragon) who survived.
One of my favorite parts of this movie is when Mantis touches Drax and feels his pain and sorrow. That moment gives a new depth to Drax that wasn't quite there before imo.
@@Jim-Mc I really love how the movie really is based around the theming of family, whether it's Quill and Ego, Quill and Yondu, Gamora, Nebula and Thanos, or even Yondu and the Ravagers and the Guardians themselves, they all wrap up nicely by the end in emotional ways
When Yondu died & when the song Father & Son by Cat Stevens played during his funeral CRUSHED me!!!! It definitely wreck me!!!!! Beautiful song choice!!!!
In the comics he is a being specifically engineered to destroy Thanos MCU Drax is a joke in comparison when talking about power levels but as an actual character he is definitely more iconic
@@Blackhawk211 Drax's power set and power level have changed wildly over the five decades the character has been around. He started out as not particularly strong, but invulnerable and unkillable, and able to fly and blast energy. Then he died (second death, actually!) and came back much bigger, much stronger, but mentally impaired. Then he got his brains back, but lost a lot of his power. Then he dies AGAIN, and comes back with almost no powers at all, but much smarter and and more skilled. This is the version that movie Drax is based on.
I wasn't aware people weren't fans of this movie. I loved it, and so did all my friends! Honestly I think I prefer it over the original, it's funny and it makes you feel, especially that moment where Ego reveals what he did to Quill's mum, it's just heart-wrenching Of course everyone has there own opinion and that's cool, not too many more films left now!
When Ego clarified that he was a god with a “small g” he meant that he wasn’t a god like the Judeo-Christian God with a “big G” who created the universe and is worshipped. Thor would also count as a “small g” god
@@j.jonahjameson5729 Thor is a small g god. Think of it like god is the species/classification. Small h human, small g god. Big G God, is a big G because God here is used as a name. Small g = species/classification. Big G = name. Yes Thor was worshipped but when we talk about the gods in the various pantheons we use small g god.
I think it's top 5 scenes in the MCU. It somehow manages to be funny, heartfelt, dramatic, epic and ridiculous all at the same time. Everything I love about Guardians in a single moment.
For someone who says is an empath, you sure had no problem downplaying the saddest moment we all experienced. When he sacrificed himself that's where we felt it, not later on with the funeral or when the ravengers came for him. As for you asking if it was necessary, a real father puts his kid before himself. There's no "I don't know", it was a beautiful scene period. Sad but well done. This one really hit me home, because I never knew my biological father but my stepdad was my Dad. When I lost him years ago and I saw this scene, it brought everything back to that moment.
Kinda silly to say that Drax wouldn't survive something when he's surviving it. This is the movie saying "Drax can survive this." That's like saying "Hey...Iron Man can't fly! That's ridiculous." lol.
If captain America just started going invisible then it would be silly to ask how’s he’s doing that when he’s clearly doing it. That’s how you sound. There is clearly a discrepancy when it comes to how little damage that did to drax vs how easily he went down when ronan hit him even slightly. Even if done for a throwaway joke, it’s not silly to call it out.
It's called the ability to suspend disbelief, and everyone has their own little gauge. She's well within reason to question how ridiculous something is. It's not her fault, the movie did stray into slapstick territory. How else do you explain the Ravagers getting slapped around 100 feet in the air like Wile E. Coyote for 10 minutes straight?
@CYB3R2K30 I knew nothing about the characters or their origins, and I got that from the first film. Even from the start of this movie, fighting the monster. It's clear they imply they're superhuman, Drax flew like 50 feet jumping into that monster and was attacking it from the inside. And honestly just the fact they're from different planets would cause me not to assume what's believable or not.
@CYB3R2K30 And to add to that in the prison scene, Drax is throwing around men like ragdolls, then he proceeds to rip apart BY hand one of the metal drones. Dude they definitely implied it lol. From just that scene alone I knew he had superhuman strength.
This movie has some great moments but the whole Tazer Face scene takes a point off for me as does Drax's laugh when Mantis reads Peter. It was really funny when Natalie had the same laugh as Drax though.
I love this movie too, but it glosses over the darker moments and then cut away to something funny like it’s trying to change a format of a joke, plus the jokes themselves can be too much at times
If you had told me I was gonna get more teary eyed over the end of a Guardians movie than any other ending in the MCU, I would have said you were crazy... but here we are.

Yea, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Nat didn't get from the film... which is a shame. You stated it very nicely. And yes, the more I watch this movie, the more I realize how amazing the final 10 minutes are. Nary a dry eye...
@@FermentingSmeg I can tell I'm preaching to the choir here but I'll say it anyway cuz I like science nerd talk. It is a behavioral fact that having a good father figure leads to better adjusted offspring. Without that father, children tend to grow up with more social issues. They are often more chaotic, more violent, and unruly. TRUE STORY: Years ago, there was a very big problem with a specific herd of elephants in Africa. Elephants are very intelligent and have a complex social structure. The adult males were all poached for their tusks. The young elephants that grew up without father figures became a real problem to everyone around them.
These young elephants were very violent and out of control. They caused much irreversible destruction. They killed many endangered rhinos and other local animals we were trying to protect. The young males were r@ping the female elephants, which is rare because elephants are a matriarchal society. The young elephants terrorized human villages, destroyed farms and property. We didn't want to kill them but we needed a solution. The solution: We integrated fully grown well adjusted males from elsewhere into the local herd. They were accepted into the local population by the mothers of the herd. These new father figures were larger and stronger than the violent teenagers. The "new Dads" quickly put the youngsters in check any time they got out of line. The problem was solved. You can apply this common sense to human society. There are areas within the USA where children often grow up without traditional father figures. It is no surprise that these areas have the highest crime rates. It is no surprise when these chaotic teenagers become poor parents and the cycle for violent crime continues.

This is absolutely my favorite MCU movie and I could literally watch it every day. I think it has the best comedy and drama that perfectly balance themselves out. And I love how strong the director's touch can be felt all across the movie giving it such a big heart.
This film is 100% my favorite MCU film. It deftly handles enormous themes of family, conflict, abuse, and CPTSD. The things that struck me as a survivor of a narcissistic father, and as a person who has needed to work out deep issues with both bio and chosen family, they clearly didn't impact you the same way. And that's fine, it's not everyone's cup of tea. But I love the layers of these flawed people just trying to survive together, trauma responses and all.
Gamora. Abilities: Gamora is a Zehoberei, an alien species that naturally possesses superhuman strength and durability. She was trained and cybernetically enhanced by Thanos, who called her "the fiercest woman in the galaxy." He regarded her more highly than any of his other "children" or soldiers. Power scale: 6.5.
Given what we saw in the later movies, she's not that strong though. She didn't have too much screentime but Thanos' children who attacked Wakanda and Vision were definitely stronger than her, especially the Voldemort Guy :D But I guess that has more to do with dramatic progress of the plot than with the original comics.
Yondu, a spiritual warrior in the 31st century, member of a different Guardians of the Galaxy, not the Reavers, who didn't kidnap or take in Peter Quill, and didn't sacrifice himself for him. You know IF we're just saying stuff from the comics that has not been established in the movies.

This is actually one of my fav MCU movies; next only to Winter Soldier and Infinity War. This has more moments exploring their characters rather than some people getting together for something. Plus, the ravager funeral slaps the dance off hard to oblivion.
I really felt that scene with Mantis and Drax when she feels his tremendous pain when he was quietly looking away. Subtle characterization at that moment, especially when we've seen Drax doing crazy and stupid stuff while laughing boisterously. Would have loved to see her reaction to that.

The Adam scene had me freaking out. I was saying before she said it "Say Adam! Say Adam! Say Adam!" The characters name is Adam Warlock. In the comics he's THE most important character besides Thanos with regards to the Infinity Stones. Although these movies do their own thing compared to the comics.
You're right, it looked like because of the reviews she was already hoping for the movie to be bad, and started nitpicking very little things right from the beginning
Yeah she does too much prior research before watching the movie. She also picks apart like technical parts of the movie like the crash landing of the ship? She tends to not pay attention and yell over things. You'd think she would look into the character parts of the movie like the comics and she would find out that drax is super strong and gamora is super strong.
Yup, about half of the people who "dislike" this movie hate it because they only view it in the lense of comparing it to the first GOTG. Same with people who don't like Endgame, with their reasoning being "because Infinity War was better". This is probably my favorite non-Avenger movie in the MCU, and that's mostly because with every rewatch it gets better and better, picking up on the themes and loving the tone of the movie. But if I only watched this once, it wouldn't crack my top 10.
7:18 "Because I was a skinny little kid who could squeeze into places adults couldn't. It made it easier for thievin'." Natalie: "That's a good reason actually." That's a disturbingly sympathetic response to someone who kidnapped children lol

Dude. Same here. I remember slightly tearing up in the theater. But then this was on HBO or something last year, and I watched it alone and JUST BALLED for like 30 minutes.... that pain and anger came out. Was not fun. Keep your head up, brother.
Never let other peoples' reviews ruin your first experience watching anything. That was a mistake, listening to or reading what critics had to say. Guardians is meant to be a fun movie, not realistic or gritty. You laugh, you cry, and you go home feeling good (at least I did).
Mixed reviews?!? I didn’t see or hear a single bad one. I thought it was universally liked. I liked it. Keep up the awesome videos. I watch them all 👌🏻
With repeated viewing the ending of this film hits harder and harder. So many character arcs wrapped up during the beautifully crafted ravenger funeral sequence it still makes me cry.
Hey, Natalie! Slapstick and sentiment are what this franchise is about! Much like Vol. 1, "Guardians Vol. 2" was an acquired taste for me since the characters differ so radically from the '90s Valentino era and lack the nuance of the '00s Abnett/Lanning era. I take science fiction very seriously. Its deeper themes and allegorical references resonate deeply with me making it a challenge to immerse myself in these goofy antics. The plot centers on the mystery of Quill's parentage revealing that he is half-Celestial whereas he is half-Spartoi in the comics, a prince of one of Marvel's staple interstellar civilizations. In spite of changes such as that, these movies, much like the team, prevail against all odds delivering endings that pack an emotional wallop! James Gunn earns my admiration each time for pushing the boundaries, diving deep and bringing impossible characters like Ego to vivid life! It takes a wildly creative sensibility and a deep affection for this mythology to get this many disparate parts to mesh properly and Gunn has both in spades. I cannot wait to see what he does with that tease for Adam Warlock. The production has an incredibly varied aesthetic that is a feast for the eyes including the golden realm of the Sovereign, the neon-lit tundra of Contraxia, the misty forested world of Berhert, and the lush splendor of Planet Ego. Traditionally a Thor villain, Ego the Living Planet is difficult to comprehend and challenging to render so I give Gunn tremendous credit for reducing him to a relatable stature while retaining his planet-with-a-face appearance. He does get an upgrade to Celestial status but he is his own entity in the comics. The Celestials are titanic armored space gods with Knowhere station being one of their severed heads! Despite varying from their comic counterparts, the returning cast is as game as before including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Bautista is a stand-out who continues to mine Drax for impressive comedy gold but Rooker steals the show with Yondu's gut-wrenching death scene! Also returning are a high-pitched Vin Diesel as Baby Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon who remain the only Guardians adapted faithfully except in one regard. According to Gunn, Baby Groot is the offspring of the original Groot rather than a regrown Groot retaining the same memories as in the comics. New characters are Ego, a sentient world that manifests as a man to pollinate other worlds across the universe with his essence! He is played by Kurt Russell as an expansive, avuncular aging hipster who is digitally de-aged to his 1980 likeness in the prologue. Pom Klementieff charmingly plays his empathic pet Mantis who is given a completely different personality than in the comics although she gets to keep her antennae! Elizabeth Debicki plays golden-skinned Ayesha aka Kismet who is transformed into the haughty High Priestess of a golden-skinned species known as the Sovereign. Sylvester Stallone plays Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk whose complex comic backstory is simplified to that of a respected Ravager Captain. He is accompanied by his First Officer, Martinex, a crystalline Plutonian played by Michael Rosenbaum of "Smallville". Both represent a nod to the Valentino Guardians of the '90s. Chris Sullivan plays the traitorous Ravager Taserface whose unfortunate name is actually an authentic deep dive into the comics! Returning in small roles are Laura Haddock as a pre-cancerous Meredith Quill, Gregg Henry as Grandpa Quill, Wyatt Oleff of "It" as young Peter and Seth Green voicing Howard the Duck seen patronizing a Contraxian brothel! In bit parts, Brit character actor Tommy Flanagan plays Tullk, a Ravager loyal to Yondu, Ben Browder of "Farscape" plays a Sovereign Admiral and Elizabeth Ludlow of "The Walking Dead" plays a distressed alien mother fleeing from Ego-matter. Michelle Yeoh as Aleta the Arcturan and Ving Rhames as Charlie-27 the Jovian appear briefly at the Ravager funeral and in one of the end-credit scenes as another Valentino tribute. TRIVIA: 1. James Gunn wore a motion capture suit and served as the model for Baby Groot's opening dance sequence! 2. Vin Diesel had actual scripted lines written for his eyes only so that he could inflect "I am Groot" appropriately. 3. The idea of a self-aware brain like Ego's spontaneously coming into existence is a philosophic thought problem proposed by physicist Ludwig Boltzmann! 4. In between Guardians films, Nebula stunt double, Olivia Jackson, fractured the left half of her face, suffered a traumatic brain injury and had her left am severed in a motorcycle stunt gone wrong! 5. The Zune was an actual Microsoft digital music player developed in 2006 that was discontinued due to its lack of popularity! EASTER EGGS: 1. When Peter is granted cosmic awareness by Ego, his eyes fill with stars and he says he sees eternity. This is a reference to Eternity, the personification of the universe in Marvel comics, who appears as a silhouetted humanoid whose form is filled with starscapes. 2. The larger replacement head-fin that Yondu wears makes him look more like Centaurians do in the comics. 3. Cosmo the canine cosmonaut and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster from "Thor: Ragnarok" are seen in the credits themselves frolicking. 4. Among Stakar's reassembled Ravager team in the end-credits is Krugarr, a red, serpentine alien from a species known as Lem. He is a member of the '90s Valentino Guardians and the 31st-century Sorcerer Supreme! 5. Tired of Stan Lee's prattling, the Watchers wander away leaving the old boy stranded in his spacesuit on the desolate planet. Marvel and superhero movies in general have a bad habit of not really explaining the limits of characters abilities and a lot of the aliens, especially those in guardians of the galaxy aren't really any stronger than a human. If you don't know anything about Drax from the comics I can see how you'd assume the same of him.
No matter how many time i watch either guardian's of the galaxy, the finales always make me cry, this silly space fam gang movies make me cry every time! Also "I'm mary poppens y'all" is the hardest ive ever laughed in the theater!
"Honestly this isn't believable" She's very deep into the mcu and says that? Wtf? Girl you're watching a movie about superpowers. And Drax isn't even human.
I find it interesting that you thought a lot of the humor was targeted towards kids but really cracked up at just seeing Pacman. Obviously everyone has different tastes, but I found the humor in this movie to have real Office or Parks & Rec vibe where it's just simple but hilarious and appeals to most adults.
Nicole Pearlman wrote the first movie. Then James Gunn revised it to his liking. The second movie was all James Gunn. So I imagine that is the difference you've noticed.
Thank you! I too felt that there was a distinct difference but couldn't put my finger on it, which was confusing to me because I had _thought_ that they were both written by Gunn. Now I get it.
Nicole Perlman was first recruited to write the first movie and when James Gunn was selected to direct, he rewrote most if not all of the movie but Nicole was required to get a screenplay credit because of writers guild rules. The first movie was very much James Gunn's movie as much as the second one. But I do agree that first movie was much better than the second one. I still love both of them though.
Yea, but let's remember... the first Guardians was a very special case. They were introducing a relatively unknown group, in a comic book franchise that was already wildly successful. It was always going to go through multiple revisions and tweaks no matter who wrote the first draft.
I feel like this movie is one of those that REALLY hits on the second watching, my family and I consider it one of our favorites but that was only after subsequent viewings. I think it's because you appreciate all the little hints of the love and caring these characters have for one another between the comedy beats!
Because its worse than the first one. It was like watching Captain marvel. Even tho I love guardians. SO some people just didnt like this one. And its understandable .
@Keepin it Real oh daaaaamn, someones feelings got hurt because someone didnt agree to their opinion?? Your Ego that big?? Lool. (this movies antagonist name fits you well). In the comics in particular, Drax's biggest (or one of them) ability is his near-indestructability, in the first movie they most clearly demonstrated this when he was hanging out in Celestial digestive fluids in Knowhere, that would have dissolved pretty much anybody else and it was barely more than water to him.

I think Drax is on Cap strength level and maybe more durable than him and Gamora of course being a cyborg she aint fragile .
I guess I had never thought about it that way, with them being blasted from the core of the planet it's possible they could have gone any direction. I always pictured them flying upwards in the exact same direction the ship went, but maybe they didn't.
@@ukiyoideas2215 Drax can physically fight and not die against characters of the like of Thanos and Ronan. He is MUCH more durable than humans.
Drax is one of the strongest MCU beings so far
While the MCU is different than the comic books, the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe strength level:
Thor - 100 tons
Drax - 50 tons
Cap - 800 lbs
Gamora is unclear.

"I'm Mary Poppins y'all"
Hello, there!
@@dunringill1747 in the 616 Ego is indeed affiliated with the elders of the universe as his Creator was the Stranger
"Are we on Earth? ... MISSOURI! Yes! Earth!"
In a weird way, Natalie just predicted one of my favorite lines from Infinity War...
Yes, I laughed at that too.
Was just about to say this myself
Dude, *sweeeeet* Norman avatar.
In the comics, Ego is an Elder of the Universe, not a Celestial. The giant, Power stone wielding robot in the first Guardians was a Celestial.
maybe movie thor but comic thor is definitely superior and Ego isn't a celestial in the comics

@@SchulzEricT Yeah, definitely! I came to that conclusion once all the other films were watched too. I guess it didn’t help with the TH-cam edit, that most of the funny bits that were very enjoyable were cut from the edit too!

They also had the same reaction to Mantis outing Chris Pratt's love for Gamora.
Mixed reviews?? The people whom didn't like it....what is wrong with them!!?? This movie made me tear up hard and that finale just inspired.
Exactly what I was thinking!

The biggest thing to take in, in a big-picture sense, is that the first movie is about mothers, this second film is about fathers. And the end of this movie - the Ravager funeral, in particular - is just devastating.
And _Ant-Man_ and _Ant-Man and the Wasp_ are about father-daughter relationships. (And so is _Infinity War/Endgame_ )

TRUE STORY:
Years ago, there was a very big problem with a specific herd of elephants in Africa.
It’s always sad watching Guardians reactions because they have to cut all the music, which is often tied to key moments you want to see. 😭

This movie came out about a week after my father passed away.
I have an unreasonable, but very explainable, affection for it.

I really felt that scene with Mantis and Drax when she feels his tremendous pain when he was quietly looking away. Subtle characterization at that moment, especially when we've seen Drax doing crazy and stupid stuff while laughing boisterously. Would have loved to see her reaction to that.

Yup, about half of the people who "dislike" this movie hate it because they only view it in the lense of comparing it to the first GOTG. Same with people who don't like Endgame, with their reasoning being "because Infinity War was better".

TRIVIA:
EASTER EGGS:
5. Seen listening to Stan Lee are Watchers, a race of observers who monitor all that transpire in the universe but never interfere. Uatu is the Watcher assigned to Earth who observes us from his dwelling on the Moon.
6. According to Gunn, this film occurs just months after the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" meaning it is set chronologically before "Avengers: Age of Ultron".
CAMEOS:
1. Ego momentarily transforms into Peter's imaginary concept of his father, David Hasselhoff, who appears as himself!
2. Miley Cyrus voices the disembodied robot head Mainframe in the Valentino tribute end-credit scene.
3. Stan Lee appears in a spacesuit regaling a group of Watchers about all his cameos when Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin are jumping through space!
END-CREDIT SCENES:
1. Kraglin tests his ability to control the repaired yaka arrow but misfires puncturing Drax whereupon Kraglin sneaks away.
2. Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord addresses a reassembled team of Ravagers from different clans who collectively represent the Jim Valentino Guardians of the '90s. They include Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex the Plutonian, Michelle Yeoh's Aleta the Arcturan, Ving Rhames' Charlie-27 the Jovian, a CGI Krugarr the Lem and Miley Cyrus' Mainframe the A.I. who is a character from the tertiary MC2 universe but is nonetheless included.
3. A frustrated, vengeful High Priestess Ayesha monitors a birthing chamber she claims will produce the next step in the Sovereign's evolution calling it 'Adam'. This is a tease for the introduction of Adam Warlock!
4. Quill scolds a now-teen Groot to clean his vine-littered room to which he replies with obnoxious, disrespectful iterations of "I am Groot"!
5. Tired of Stan Lee's prattling, the Watchers wander away leaving the old boy stranded in his spacesuit on the desolate planet.
The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 11-19 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD" but watching the "Guardians' Inferno" music video first is mandatory! It is located on the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" blu-ray, Disney+ as an Extra or on TH-cam.

@@wirelesmike73 💯% Agreed!
@@wirelesmike73 I totally agree, but then again I'm a sucker for brunettes anyway.
cannot wait for natalie to watch guardians 3. i just know she’s gonna love it
She'll definitly cry a lot
She probably won't laugh OR cry because like here she won't shut up long enough to watch it!
Kinda crazy how Natalie was about to miss THE turning point of the story (Dad saying "it broke my heart planting that tumor in her head") because she was talking to the camera 😂 Ya gotta pay attention Nat 😁
I noticed she tends to do that.. while many reaction channels pause for their commentary, she talks right over the movies, and WAY worse with the movies she clearly is not into as much. It gave a feeling of only doing the Marvel series for views, because the complaints, lack of effort actually watching and just purely rushing through them. Disappointing, honestly as I like many of her other reviews.
