- The Nissan Toyota rivalry continues in this video. The Patrol and Landcruiser battle it out at the 4x4 tracks in Lithgow. We start of at the Wombat holes, then head to the infamous Pipeline track (aka Hills to Nowhere) and finish of at the Pipeline play area just behind the main trail.
In this Nissan GU vs Toyota LC80 challenge both vehicles have similar mods. Both twin locked with e-lockers and diff gears with transfer reductions. The Patrol and the Land cruiser are both manual. The major difference is the Nissan is powered by a diesel while the Toyota is petrol.
Both running Maxxis Trepador Competition tires. With the Nissan Y61 running 40 inch tires and the Toyota 80 Series running 37" tyres.

As expected. Cars about equal with the bigger tires of the Patrol helping a bit, and in the end it comes down to the driver. Pick which ever you like the best to drive and that is most comfortable for what you use it for.
I always end up in a Patrol because of the better bang for the buck, better on-road comfort and higher level of luxury. Off-road with the correct mods they are equal.
Top video. I had the Nissan Patrol ahead at every round until the Toyota Landcruiser delivered the knock out blow at the end 👊

The Nissan was always going to climb easier with the bigger wheels. Change from 33-35, 35-37, 37-40 etc there always big improvements in climbing abilities. Great vid, great drivers....!

Only cos the lad in the patrol can't drive and dug his own wheels in making the step up even bigger

Awesome video. Thank you. I may be wrong but I think that last obstacle where the Patrol struggled is more a petrol vs diesel problem. The petrol Cruiser seemd to gain a lot more momentum quicker than the diesel Patrol.
That may be the case. I think overall it was very equal. Each had there struggles and victories.

RooFx Thanks man glad you enjoyed it. Yes both are very much modded but im most respects with similar mods.
The geometry on both is relatively standard! Sure aftermarket radius arms but that’s about where it stops and that doesn’t even change geometry just articulation potential without suspension bind.
My sister's husband has a 4 door pickup Ford Ranger. I know it cannot be used for this kind of situation. But can you give me suggestion in what kind of off-road areas this Ford Ranger can do without struggling ? No modification required for that purpose.

At the last area, in what gear the Toyota driver ran his car ? As the car is petrol, 2nd gear may not be enough, but 1st gear might cause wheelspin. I don't know the characteristic of these cars and other 4WD cars.
I only drive a front wheel sedan or a rear wheel MVP, never tried a 4WD car.

I will say I had both these rigs a 95 pathy and a 93 runner and the pathy did better but also came with limited slip from the factory. Stock it was better but I liked the runner better after mods
You needed to use bog standard vehicles boys for a true challenge.

At the last area, Did the Nissan Patrol change its path (direction) from its previous path on which it was struggling ?
It stopped at 16:18, and looked like it changed its direction at 16:20 to restart at different angle.
At this area, the Toyota successfully overcame the challenge.
At the 1st area, the Toyota struggled, whereas the Nissan did without problem.
So, for me, the score is tied. Both cars are reliable, and the drivers as well.

Hey guys, who can tell me a little about the suspension set up in the 80? The 80 in my profile pic is mine and that's all the flex I can get. I do have a pair of Hyperflex radius arms from Superior sitting here waiting to be installed but. 4" lift currently under it but has not done much for the flex. :(
Lift doesn't mean articulation. Shock length combined with compliant control arms give you flex. The hyperflex setup will give you heaps of articulation but sometimes they can unload undesirably, road manners can also be an issue.
I have seen your video with fourbies running up on the flex ramp at EZE 10s. EZE 10s seems to be a performance shop but do you do 4WD suspension there too? I think I’ve just had so much advice from different people about what makes a good suspension set up on an 80 series for travel and flex that I’m now just confused and could potentially end up massively out of pocket and be driving a pig on a roller skate on the black top. I understand that you can’t expect a lifted Landcruiser to handle like a sports car but I don’t want it to be dangerous either. Also, we own horses and the Landcruiser is used to tow a horse float, my wife drives it sometimes too and we use it for touring, not just negotiating rock steps and ruts. Could really use some professional help and advise with it.

@@80serieslandcruisertv18 towing and hyperflex arms is not a good idea imo. Just use a supeflex setup (1 arm with plates on the left aide and 1 standard 2 bolt arm on the right side) that will have better manners on the blacktop and combined with the right shocks give you enough flex for what you do.
The cameras man keeps saying, * if it rolls, I'll pay for it." I'd roll it and say buy me a new truck then lol. Either he owns a shop and does the builds on the truck for these guys, he has sponsors or he just had boat loads of 💰..
