I remember watching this live. There was no hints that this was going to happen, at all. The writers managed to keep this under wraps. It was stunning, and incredible, and one of the best scenes I've seen on television.
What?! Yes there was. His red eyes, putting his hands directly through the wall of a bomb, getting out of the cuffs as he said. Also, if u know the Hank henshaw story then u knew where this was going. Lol. But your right. It was still a very well done reveal. However I had figured before this that he was manhunter. Lol
@@kylewarren5268lol the hank heshaw stroy means nothing there literally no version of this stroy in comics or any other media a part of your comment a complete lie I can tell because hank heshaw is cyborg superman Red eyes, phasing, etc could mean anything that isn't a direct conformation of Martian manhunter since we literally have several dc characters with Martian manhunter exact powers. Yeah everybody knows how she didn't panic? And the reason for that is because he trained her not to and her job involved handling aliens that's why she didn't freak out and he trained her very very hard. Looked at him and said okay ?
He actually went and sought her out gave his word to Jeremiah that he would look after his daughters for sparing his life and he honored that. Commitment to looking after them when they became adults that's when he acted and told them who he really was
@@charlesneely I'm not sure for sparing his life so much as trying to save it or even just treating him as an equal before Henshaw came charging in, but still, absolutely yes. He showed he was a good alien. And attacking her fathers friend would have been poor gratitude.
This was a legitimate "holy shit" moment. I think people were expecting Hank to be Cyborg Superman...having him turn out to be J'ohnn Jones was something I don't anyone saw coming..
I was enough of a Flash fan I could tell he had the same kind of secret as fake Harrison Wells: Hiding who he was. But unlike with Thawne, he wasn't hiding his loyalties. Then again, I didn't know who Martian manhunter OR Cyborg Superman were. So having a blank-slate and nothing to compare it to, probably helped on my part.
I figured it out as of episode 2. There's a scene in which Alex has been captured, and Kara is yelling at Hank for being so heartless. "She's my sister! Don't know know what that means? Don't you have any family?" And then Hank gets the weariest saddest look on his face and says, "Not any more". And I knew. There's nobody in any DC Universe who's more gutted by the loss of their family than my man J'onn. It owed everything to David Harewood's acting, where he's playing this tough aloof guy, and Kara just deflates him by hitting his "lost family" button; David absolutely sells it.
To me, it's always a profound feeling when you look in an actor's eyes and see someone you love staring out of them. Even more so if you weren't expecting it. It must have meant a lot to get to this episode and have that feeling vindicated. I'm glad you got to experience it all. And might I say, well done for figuring it out in Episode 2, especially when that was the first to be written AFTER they decided Hank Henshaw was really J'onn J'onzz!
Looking back at this scene, during Crisis J'onn get's a new suit but maybe it's to signify after his struggles in season 4 and early season 5 that he is now at peace with the fact that he is the Martian Manhunter so yes he doesn't always switch to Martian form fully but he is still willing to fight like that and honour his past.
It's funny to think that when I watched Supergirl live on CBS and later CW, I really wasn't that big into DC. I had no clue who J'onn was, or what Cyborg Superman was, or CADMUS, or even Supergirl herself! Now I can appreciate scenes like this a heck of a lot more.
I suppose it's a problem when you're on a TV-budget. For me, this looks like a rather simple scene -- there's just Alex and J'onn (mostly) standing there, no action or anything, static background. Me first idea was camera angle, but then there was a shot with Alex and J'onn in the same frame, so I figure a simple greenscreen with either J'onn or Alex filmed separately and then added together in slightly different scales.
Martian Mann Hunter, The Incredible Hulk and Green Bay Packers were my favorites as a child. This was before they won the Superbowl. Yes, I am happy with my choices.
The very next episode J'onn mentions that Kryptonians are impervious to his telepathy 'a fact that Superman finds hilarious'. So we finally have an answer to who the one other living person was. And it's always been there.
@@xanderm6090Plus we se Martian who is helping ,despite being in hidden - in ZSJL ,he decide to stay hidden through zero event, doomsday attack and steppenwolf invasion and then he shows up pretending to be hero and you can count on him...
Who is the only other living person J’onn refers to? Wondering if it was Clark, since when he first appears at the DEO, it appears he may know who J’onn is (unless Kara told him at some point).
I had to stop myself from screaming with excitement when I first watched this coz i would have woken up my baby sister so i stuffed my fist in my mouth and bounced in my armchair in happiness lol
I love this scene. She doesn’t know.. but we do.. this is Jon Jones… the Martian Manhunter! One of theirs fiercest and yet more empathetic defenders a hero
Knowing that the show was using the opportunity to bring in Martian Manhunter was what got me into the show besides knowing they build up to crossovers every season.
CW DC shows always start out with such promise.. Arrow Flash, Supergirl.. hell even Legends.. It always goes off the rails eventually.. but that first season.. or first few seasons.. amazing. Except Gotham.. fuck that show.

Well originally they had no plans on making him Martian Manhunter. It was the actor's idea that he pitched.
@@devinbrown6650 Actually, it was the idea of Geoff Johns and the showrunners.
I'm really glad they did this. I remember being flabbergasted too. Supergirl wasn't exactly the best show but it had some great moments

3:11 "My name... is J'onn J'onzz, " one of the best quotes I've heard in the show
I loved this episode and moment. This actor captured to noble and honorable nature of Jon.
As soon as I heard “shapeshifter” I was thinking wait is he Martian Manhunter
Martian Manhunter is my favorite DC character so bad ass

This is one of the greatest scene from the Super girl and also from all the arrowverse shows.
Me, leaping from the couch, pointing at the screen: HE AIN'T A CYBORG AT ALL!
It’s the original Hank Henshaw turned into Cyborg Superman
I love that Alex gave J’onn J’onzz some cookies 😂👌🏼 Martian Manhunter really loves oreos 🤣
Even in the JL animated series.
This reveal was dope as hell. When the CW shows were good, they were DAMN good.
Technically this was still a CBS show at the time, it only transferred to CW the 2nd season.

That hit when his eyes went red
I literally had a heart palpitation after this reveal
for this scene they made him look so tall.
Now he's just human size
He was acc gliding
Well he has shape-shifting abilities i guess he doesn't keep a particular appearance.
I suppose it's a problem when you're on a TV-budget.

This is when Supergirl was a good show.
Whaat? Supergirl is still a nice show
Then they ruined his character by hooking up with his niece
Still is
Season 1 nights>>>>
I always liked Jon he was badass
J'onn was my favorite on JL in the DCAU so I figurdd it out. I was chanting say it during this scene
ngl the reveal was far better than ZSJL
Probs cause this one doesn't feel like it comes out of nowhere and we actually got to know J'onn/Hank.

Is it just me or is that a hint of the justice league animated theme song as he reveals himself?
The guy who played Martian manhunter in smallville was good as well
Phil Morris
He went from being like 7ft to barely 6ft in later seasons
He can shapeshift so size and appearance obviously vary
Who is the only other living person J’onn refers to? Wondering if it was Clark, since when he first appears at the DEO, it appears he may know who J’onn is (unless Kara told him at some point).
It's subtle but in the very next episode J'onn mentions that Superman is aware of his telepathy. Implying Supes knows what he is.
