Also making a second game with similar themes does not guarantee similar revenue. The mobile game audience and their finances are not unlimited. MHY already has the "family friendly" audience with Genshin, making a second game to appeal to them is not going to have the same returns.

And for those that said they could have just censored the Chinese server and leave the rest of the servers uncensored, the last time they did that for Honkai Impact 3rd on of their founder almost got killed, look up Honkai Impact Bunny Girl incident.

It's very much true, even if people don't realize it (or just dont want to admit it) , it even happened on genshin, first they modify rosaria, then they modify the splash art of shenhe (no true need, tbh , a navel has never been a big deal, not even in content directed towards kids) , then they release "alternative -permanent-" outfits that have censored what made the original character designs appealing, then they drastically removed jiggle alltogether in current and future ADULT SIZED female models, then granny diapers/pants even on young adult characters, and now they put extra stuff everywhere just to delete cleavage (guess having cleavage now is also considered too much, huh?) and also to cover up all the navels ingame. It really is pathetic, tbh you go to the beach or watch a sports competition and you see way more than that, but it's a videogame soo... must be deleted!!!

People are so caught up on Nicole being censored that they don’t realize other girls got censored too, but also scenes that were in beta 1 that depicted more violent and mature tones were censored too, or straight up removed. Pretty sad it’s not just fanservice, the game has lost some of its interesting matures themes.

Wow, they REALLY did my girl dirty. Already wasn't planning on playing ZZZ since I'm already on the Genshin/HSR boats, but my desire to get around to it someday has been reduced for sure.
I don't mind the booby physics, but to dumb down the dynamic movement, camera angel, the liveliness and so on does kinda suck. I'm still going to definitely play this game though! It's giving me shit I like which is genuinely unique character designs that aren't just the same models being used over and over again.

The only question I have to ask is this: If Nicole's chest and animations were so troublesome, why couldn't they have just given her modest proportions and animations in the first place? Why did Hoyoverse keep her this way for over a year in all of the ZZZ promo content, and the first closed beta test, just to change it all now? Hell, even with their recent web event mini-game where you had to make sandwiches for various ZZZ characters, they had a chibi version of Nicole with a chest that was comically large. It was pretty much expected that her chest was one of the defining parts of her design, but now that expectation has been subverted in the worst way possible. Seriously. I asked this question yesterday and I still want answers.

The new animation is just a downgrade. The old one is more expressive and makes me actually want to look at the character, while the new one is boring and generic in comparison.
I'm trying to move away from gacha in general but I was afraid of this happening considering Hoyoverse games are still affected by CCP censorship and stuff. I agree with the comments about the censored animations lacking personality, and breasts aren't still.

The first animation was really nice and dynamic with cool poses, I think the only weird thing about it is how the chest moves like water balloons, the second one is not bad but it feels really plain
Judging from the video, she had little movement in the second ver. and it was mostly camera panning. Assuming she's wearing a supportive bra, the second video actually has pretty sensible breast physics. The poses however are quite stiff, and less dynamic than the first.
It's not just that they changed her size, but the change of animations also worsens the reduction to her unique charm. It's like muting multiple aspects of a no-nonsense character who's fully aware of her appearance, not afraid to flaunt it, and happy to attract business AND fill someone with lead anyway. To... someone who's less of all of it. Less deviation from the bodily norm. Less character in the way she handles herself. Imagine going from a gung ho bombshell, with a flair for tossing her cannon around as much as she does the money her company so desperately needs, to being the girl who twiddles her hair...
Exactly!! Preferably, they could have just kept the old 1st animation and added the new second animation to atleast retain some of her character! The new animation really doesn't help sell her character, especially since the angle is above, making Nicole look small and meek and I hate it!! I'd still pull for her but I wish they kept some part of herself there. The game is already on a higher age range anyways....

At one hand this is still beta but the promotional material with old models and animations where promoting the game for a long time so they were basically baiting players. This really toned down my interest in the game.

I find it weird that Hoyo even bothered to give her big booba if this was the result in the end. They're still in China so why did they bother? Its not even the fact that we don't get big booba at all but I remember the biggest talking point for ZZZ during the first beta was that it was looking like it was going to be a game that would be more adult oriented rather then held back by rating constraints like with Genshin and possibly even Star Rail if you really wanna go into it. As much as people want to be like "lol! What, you can't play a game without big boobs? What a coomer", that doesn't change the fact that it gave people a certain impression of the game. Considering I also haven't seen much criticism at all regarding the gameplay since this beta test is also not a great sign either. Its better to hear about the potential problems rather than hear nothing but praise for a beta. Another big factor in how successful this game is going to be is the lack of a multiplatform release for console. Honkai probably could've had bigger numbers that far surpassed Genshin had it released with a console version. Now its in-between updates and has only barely reached a million players on PlayStation. ZZZ will have to contend with Genshin potentially going through a renaissance period of content upon release AND whatever Star Rail's new content will look like given that it now has that console version. ZZZ looks good but I think we've gotten to a point where people are beginning to realize that looking good won't cut it anymore. One can only hope Hoyo is learning

The character is still cute, but yes. No one should be given an inch when it comes to reducing appeal for a character. It doesn't matter how significant the change is, change for a bad cause is still for a bad cause.
Honestly the change itself is fine - though I may be one of the few that prefers the new Nicole - but it is the fact that they ARE censoring their games which is troublesome. That said, I see no reason why this needs to become a big issue. Afterall Rosaria and a few other Genshin characters got "nerfed" yet the game is still doing just fine. I get not liking censorship, but the "I will never play this game cause they nerfed her milkers!" sentiment is pretty daft.
I am glad they made these changes. Just because I'm male doesn't mean I want to see a girl's unnaturally large watermelons constantly swinging around. Her personality shouldn't be designed around a singular, exaggerated physical feature. Doing something for it's own sake is a terrible excuse, especially something blatantly sexual like this. I definitely wasn't going to use Nicole for that reason. I might change my mind once the game comes out though. Also, I'm not like all these people in the comments yelling that censorship should never be allowed. Whether I feel it's acceptable or not is on a case-by-case basis, and in this instance, I support it.

Even ignoring the assets, the animation in the first one is just so much better. It would be somewhat better if they just nerfed those assets but kept the same liveliness for the animation
I dont agree with the censoring, but tbh both animations aren't great on the chest area. The first one theyre like baloons and in the second one like concrete. Both have issues with the way gravity interacts with tissue, fat and density. But this is just me criticizing it as an animator. Outside of that, the first one is much more dynamic. So in this particular situtation it is a better fit. The first one makes the second one look like a simple proof of concept, rather than a finished product.

it's funny how they notice this, but virtually no one seemed to notice that they shrunk literally ever single character's boobs in Street Fighter 6 relative to the previous games.
It's censored so bad that it's objectively worse regardless of the fan service. The pose, the animation, and even the design of the top is just an overall downgrade. Its just that the stat posing, animation and transitions in CBT 2 were cheap, too short and bland The equip stat pose animation shouldve retained nichole spinning (from cbt1) and add her grabbing bangboo with two fingers In the skill pose animation the angle was a bit off and didnt give emphasis to nichole's figure and overall aura. They shouldve placed the angle a bit more to the left and add emphasis on her showing off her briefcase weapon Im not defending censorship. The bigger the company, the bigger the scrutiny I guess. I just wonder how one of my fave games Azur Lane managed to sustain the gratuitous designs after controversies for even worse things. They're both developed in China. I feel like if something has already accrued wide positive reception, there's no need to censor the current state of things and just implement changes in mind for the next batch of characters. Because, people are now upset of the "What would've been" that will never happen and I agree 100% on just leaving things as they were.
Take this with a grain of salt. But i heard the reason why Azur Lane gets away with its designs is cause what we get is already the “nerfed” version. What the designers did was make the “original” design even MORE gratuitous than what they originally want so that when they get told to nerf them, they change it to the design they wanted to release in the first place. Whether this is true or not idk, just something my bro who played the game told me.
I think it was because Azur lane has all the servers and offices that are not for cn outside of china to avoid ccp meddling thank god their ceo forsaw that. Could be the censorship happens only on certain servers. Same same thing happens in genshin when they canonically change jean, amber, rosaria attire. While mainland server got the permanent change, the rest of the world got the skin instead. Also i got the feeling that we don't have to change what is liked and loved about the game, but it is said on there, it is not a final product, there could be changes.
I don't think Mihoyo is going to do regional content patches for this game or any of their future games, otherwise they would suffer the same conflict they had with the bunny suit drama that happened with Honkai Impact 3rd.

The original skins (the ones that weren't changed outside of china) got slight changes. Amber's and Jean's look identical (I haven't found a slight difference), Rosaria wears pants instead of fishnet. I'm not sure how to describe Mona's change, but honestly it looks better than alt skin.
People are really overreacting to a starting character that will probably be outclassed and never used again, I'm against this kind of censorship too because it seems like the developers can't do what they want... but that's not even their fault

It's very much true, even if people don't realize it (or just dont want to admit it) , it even happened on genshin, first they modify rosaria, then they modify the splash art of shenhe (no true need, tbh , a navel has never been a big deal, not even in content directed towards kids) , then they release "alternative -permanent-" outfits that have censored what made the original character designs appealing, then they drastically removed jiggle alltogether in current and future ADULT SIZED female models, then granny diapers/pants even on young adult characters, and now they put extra stuff everywhere just to delete cleavage (guess having cleavage now is also considered too much, huh?) and also to cover up all the navels ingame.

Wow, they REALLY did my girl dirty. Already wasn't planning on playing ZZZ since I'm already on the Genshin/HSR boats, but my desire to get around to it someday has been reduced for sure.

The only question I have to ask is this: If Nicole's chest and animations were so troublesome, why couldn't they have just given her modest proportions and animations in the first place? Why did Hoyoverse keep her this way for over a year in all of the ZZZ promo content, and the first closed beta test, just to change it all now?
Hell, even with their recent web event mini-game where you had to make sandwiches for various ZZZ characters, they had a chibi version of Nicole with a chest that was comically large. It was pretty much expected that her chest was one of the defining parts of her design, but now that expectation has been subverted in the worst way possible.

The new animation is just a downgrade. The old one is more expressive and makes me actually want to look at the character, while the new one is boring and generic in comparison.
I'm trying to move away from gacha in general but I was afraid of this happening considering Hoyoverse games are still affected by CCP censorship and stuff. I agree with the comments about the censored animations lacking personality, and breasts aren't still.

Judging from the video, she had little movement in the second ver. and it was mostly camera panning. Assuming she's wearing a supportive bra, the second video actually has pretty sensible breast physics. The poses however are quite stiff, and less dynamic than the first.

I find it weird that Hoyo even bothered to give her big booba if this was the result in the end. They're still in China so why did they bother? Its not even the fact that we don't get big booba at all but I remember the biggest talking point for ZZZ during the first beta was that it was looking like it was going to be a game that would be more adult oriented rather then held back by rating constraints like with Genshin and possibly even Star Rail if you really wanna go into it. As much as people want to be like "lol! What, you can't play a game without big boobs? What a coomer", that doesn't change the fact that it gave people a certain impression of the game.
Considering I also haven't seen much criticism at all regarding the gameplay since this beta test is also not a great sign either. Its better to hear about the potential problems rather than hear nothing but praise for a beta. Another big factor in how successful this game is going to be is the lack of a multiplatform release for console. Honkai probably could've had bigger numbers that far surpassed Genshin had it released with a console version. Now its in-between updates and has only barely reached a million players on PlayStation. ZZZ will have to contend with Genshin potentially going through a renaissance period of content upon release AND whatever Star Rail's new content will look like given that it now has that console version. ZZZ looks good but I think we've gotten to a point where people are beginning to realize that looking good won't cut it anymore. One can only hope Hoyo is learning

Honestly the change itself is fine - though I may be one of the few that prefers the new Nicole - but it is the fact that they ARE censoring their games which is troublesome.
That said, I see no reason why this needs to become a big issue. Afterall Rosaria and a few other Genshin characters got "nerfed" yet the game is still doing just fine.

I am glad they made these changes. Just because I'm male doesn't mean I want to see a girl's unnaturally large watermelons constantly swinging around. Her personality shouldn't be designed around a singular, exaggerated physical feature. Doing something for it's own sake is a terrible excuse, especially something blatantly sexual like this. I definitely wasn't going to use Nicole for that reason. I might change my mind once the game comes out though.
Also, I'm not like all these people in the comments yelling that censorship should never be allowed. Whether I feel it's acceptable or not is on a case-by-case basis, and in this instance, I support it.

Even ignoring the assets, the animation in the first one is just so much better. It would be somewhat better if they just nerfed those assets but kept the same liveliness for the animation
I dont agree with the censoring, but tbh both animations aren't great on the chest area. The first one theyre like baloons and in the second one like concrete. Both have issues with the way gravity interacts with tissue, fat and density. But this is just me criticizing it as an animator.
Outside of that, the first one is much more dynamic. So in this particular situtation it is a better fit. The first one makes the second one look like a simple proof of concept, rather than a finished product.

The equip stat pose animation shouldve retained nichole spinning (from cbt1) and add her grabbing bangboo with two fingers
In the skill pose animation the angle was a bit off and didnt give emphasis to nichole's figure and overall aura. They shouldve placed the angle a bit more to the left and add emphasis on her showing off her briefcase weapon

They're both developed in China. Take this with a grain of salt. But i heard the reason why Azur Lane gets away with its designs is cause what we get is already the “nerfed” version. What the designers did was make the “original” design even MORE gratuitous than what they originally want so that when they get told to nerf them, they change it to the design they wanted to release in the first place.
Whether this is true or not idk, just something my bro who played the game told me.
I think it was because Azur lane has all the servers and offices that are not for cn outside of china to avoid ccp meddling thank god their ceo forsaw that. Blue archive seems to have started doing the same and nikke outright has had everything outside of china after the censorship attempt happened althought it was impart due to the whales almost quitting.

Could be the censorship happens only on certain servers. Same same thing happens in genshin when they canonically change jean, amber, rosaria attire. While mainland server got the permanent change, the rest of the world got the skin instead.
Also i got the feeling that we don't have to change what is liked and loved about the game, but it is said on there, it is not a final product, there could be changes.
I don't think Mihoyo is going to do regional content patches for this game or any of their future games, otherwise they would suffer the same conflict they had with the bunny suit drama that happened with Honkai Impact 3rd.

The skins you are talking about are alts globally (including china).
The original skins (the ones that weren't changed outside of china) got slight changes.
Amber's and Jean's look identical (I haven't found a slight difference), Rosaria wears pants instead of fishnet.
I'm not sure how to describe Mona's change, but honestly it looks better than alt skin.

I'm with Tectone on this: have two versions, and let people choose which they want to experience. I liked Nicole's little spin, like I liked Kiana's lean as HoFi. RIP to both. Still, the loss of neither will kill the game. It's upsetting since it continues to follow a weird trend of changes that don't necessarily need to be made. It'd be nice if Mihoyo could be left alone to do Mihoyo things. But at least we still have Aponia and Eden, right Captains?

Hell, even Reverse 1999 has heavy uncensored language usage in cerain parts (and characters) so I don't believe why HYV should be different when they've moved toward Singapore.
