  • Just a quick video clip on aerial setup. It was prompted by a question during training; "Why should the truck be in front and what do you do when you arrive?" Thanx to the cooperation of all. Hope it helps. See you out there!

In over 10 years in the fire service, I don't think I've ever heard a better explanation of the process for setting up aerial ops. A clear and concise explanation of why each action is taken is something that a lot of instructors leave out. You sir, are a fantastic instructor.

May I ask, do u prefer aerial ladder, tower ladder or pump truck? And I love firefighters. I rly appreciate ur service for the country or I can say city. Ur truly a real big hero. And IMO I like aerial ladder the most

@@Absolut531kmh each type of fire apparatus has its own place and purpose on the fireground. Likewise, the firefighter’s duties are specific to the type of apparatus to which they are assigned, ie, an engine company puts water on the fire, a truck company ventilates, etc (this isn’t always the case, but on many departments, including mine, it is). So to your question, I prefer the work of a rescue company, which is what I am on. We can be assigned pretty much any job on the fireground, my favorite being, on the nozzle putting water on the fire. However when it comes to ascetics, purely visual, I’d say the tower ladder or tractor drawn aerial would be my favorite. Hope that answers your question!

Few things I would add. lift truck enough to take bulge out of rear tires, chock front wheels, and turn jack plates to where handles are on the inside so they aren't an unnecessary trip hazard. Very good explanation for those who haven't operated a truck before.

Dont you chock the front wheels???v When you place the outriggers the rigs rear tires are to leave the ground so the rear chocks are useless. Your suppose to chock the front wheels

That is the reason for the auxillary/ front axle brakes, if equipped, as in heavy duty vs medium duty aerials. The other option is to leave rears touching street, allowing the parking brakes to provide braking, but not bearing load.
Dependence upon wheel chocks is not only unreliable but unsafe due to the amount of motion permitted before grabbing and subsequent dynamic / shock load to the aerial.
