Well that is lovely that the recruiter managing the ATS an see which phrases and keywords are missing, but the job seeker can't, so we have to hope that even by using exact keywords and phrasing based on job description that we stand a chance.
Terrible that we have to use a computer to see if someone is qualified for a job, its a sign of the times. All well, at least the company that is shown "Preptel" went under about 2 years after this video was posted! SO THERES THAT! :)
I have just started looking for a job. This is a great opener to help me improve my chances to get interviewed for the positions I am applying ....thanks!
Thank you so much for your information. After I listened to your video, I now know why I have not gotten a response to some applications I have put in for over the Internet Thanks so much
There are pros and cons to everything and unfortuantely this software may help recruiters sift through resumes faster, but makes some of them lazy. These same recruiters will use this information to say that there is a shortage in qualified candidates - Wow! Employment or no employment at the click of a button, how convenient.
If this catches on and everybody uses preptel, then good candidates and bad candidates will all be at the top of the ranking system and we're back where we started: good candidates being missed by employers. Want to know how to fix this? Throw out these stupid Orwellian "Applicant Tracking System" and treat people like people again.
Greg Common with all his education and experience gets filtered out, basically into the cyberspace trash bucket because a computer program didn't read his resume right. It's not that he's wrong, it's that the program is trash. Sad that so many people are getting passed over for jobs because they used the wrong tense on their resume. No wonder unemployment is so high.
I feel that I have to be superficial now because I have to use their words in my resume. Not only that you have to make these changes to every resume you send out which makes it even more time consuming.
What do you do when you are self employed, doing terrible, looking for work and your last employement is over 2.5 years ago? I would assume that this "Tracking" software would immediately put me to the bottom of the list of candidate matches because of the employement history. If this system is employed by the majority of companies, I will ALWAYS be put at the bottom. I'm not getting call backs from the likes of target, walmart and circle k. This "technology" has caused a HUGE problem for job seekers like myself. So, is self employment seen by hiring managers as "Might as well be unemployed"? Or "This guy won't be a yes man because he was independent". I'm getting frustrated trying to get hired and my moral compass is being crushed under the weight of ever increasing debt. What "background" verification is taking place in the background? What if you put you worked at a roach coach selling food and got a friend to verify it via phone contact? It's impossible to find the worst jobs for some of us out here.
people seeing this who aren't recruiters would be scared seeing this video. Not all companies use taleo and most recruiters will go trough many if not all of the resumes submitted.
It makes no sense to me that the example in this video, a graduate from Harvard of all prestigious places as that, who has done work during his time there that make him a good match for the job for which he was applying, ranked so low, and was thus rejected by the recruiter or hiring manager simply over a lack of the exact and proper KEYWORDS in his resume. So WHAT, then? Does a job applicant have to check each job listing and write a whole new resume to match the keywords in each and every job posting, JUST to be SEEN, nevermind considered for a job? This vid clearly appeals to employers .. but woe betide the job seeker when this modern new Master Control Program throws them out with the rest of the digital trash. If the job seeker has only their resume, he or she hardly stands a chance ....
The company appears to have died. Kind of makes you wonder why companies even hire recruiters anymore. This software makes them pretty much obsolete by serving as a screener for the screeners.
Yeah, so now instead of doing their job (finding good applicants) they are now running errands for their boss or whatever the fuck other thing they are probably told to do on the side
Application tracking systems are very important for hiring process. Here are some of the best ATS in the industry to choose from: www.softwaresuggest.com/applicant-tracking-system
This is Amazing. Now I understood why some good and well experienced candidates are missing their opportunity,
This seems wonderful to many people but it makes me sick that good people are "filtered" due to lack of keywords. Good grief.
Amen!
Agreed. I am one of those people. It makes one want to jump off a bridge.

I am not able to go to their website. #JonCampi Can you please give us an update if this company still exists..
I think it just goes to show the ever widening class gap, which we are told is wealth, when in fact it is knowledge and learning.
why reject a person application or resume and cover letter simple because what is on the paper.???
Thank you so much for sharing a great video!

where to find the keywords to beat the applicant tracking system

#JohnCampi what a mathematical model or theory stands behind all ATS ?
Algorithms I guess.

That was great. It was helpful, simple, and to the point.

This system is just stupid!!!
There is no use watching this ado at all since preptel.com does not exist now.
