Jelly Roll talks about his past in a lot of his songs. He talks about growing up poor, having to crash on couches, selling drugs from a young age, addiction, his daughter. He's totally transparent about what he's been through, and it makes his songs that much better.
He wrote this on a Saturday, Sunday he recorded it, Monday he did the video, and Tuesday released it. Man is a brilliant songwriter and a beautiful singer.

Life's been hard through the pandemic. I'm a heart patient and only 32. Some days I don't even want to get up and motivated because of all my meds I have to take. But then I hear my kids running around and I realize that's who I'm living for and they are my motivation. All of jellyrolls music has helped me through this year. He's a life saver.

Jelly has been through all the ups and downs, has honest raps about dealing out of the trap house, busted for dealing and spent time in prison, which is where he started rapping, came out and had to deal with figuring out how to make a living and be a father for his daughter as her mom was going through issues being addicted and in and out of prison/rehab. The man takes it all and puts it to music. His favorite line is "this rap thing is easy, I just have to tell the truth" because all of his songs are just the truth of his life. Also, on top of all the awesome comments on what to check out, I say check out the 10 minute freestyle on here from right after he got out of prison, or his song "welcome to the Trap house" with O.N.E. Both are a good sight from the early part of his career.

This song hits me in a way I can't explain. See I left home at 14 for several reasons. I was homeless for a long time. I found a job in a little town in GA scraping bark off pine trees with a hand scraper. I worked my butt off and rented my 1st apartment when I was 17. I was able to make something of myself. But I can't seem to allow anyone to get close to me. I have everything I want my home is paid off, I have a 38ft boat, a truck and a 2012 cls 550. But I have no one I'm completely alone. I can't help but think my past is to dark for most to deal with.

I'm a 55 father that lost my 10 year old son to cancer 18 months ago my wife walked off into the needle two months later. lost my job 3 weeks ago and tested positive for covid 5 days ago i have been sitting around trying to keep myself from self medicating and i came across your videos and for the first time in my life subscribed and hit the bell i have no idea what that does for you but I will tell you but of all the people that i have watched do reaction vids you guys are real!!! you dont judge a song or artist by any thing other than the merit of the song itself. i have become a true believer in Jelly Roll, Ryan Upchurch, and Tom McDonald and you guys keep it real thank you for being there to help me stay groundad.
