  • Jesus' public ministry of preaching to the multitudes and performing miracles went against the flow of the world-especially since He reached out to the downtrodden with love and grace. As we continue our study through Luke 6-7, we examine a different take on the Beatitudes, observe an extraordinary encounter with a Roman centurion that even left Jesus amazed, and learn what it means to live with Jesus as our Lord.
This teaching is from our series 42 Luke - 2014 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

Why do Christians love to put heaven as some goal to be achieved when Jesus clearly stated in Luke 17:21 that its already among us?

How can John be an Old Testament prophet when he was born in the New Testament?

The idea of Old Testament / New Testament is based on the exact definition of the term “Testament.” This term, Testament, actually is synonymous with the term Covenant. Therefore, the English Biblical heading Old Testament actually means Old Covenant whereas, in contrast, the English Bible heading New Testament actually means New Covenant. With this accurate definition and understanding of the terms, we can then point out that John the Baptist, though during New Testament time, was actually functioning under the Old Testament (Old Covenant). The New Covenant would not be inaugurated until after the atoning sacrifice, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. This provided the foundation for the forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit coming (Acts 2), giving birth to the Church.
This is why Jesus would say,
Matthew 11:11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

    Bogus dispensationalism theology

It's been a few years here since you left this comment. I am fully aware of your feelings on the topic of dispensationalism as I have family that feel the same. The interesting thing is that just like family, you default to using derogatory terms to describe those that don't believe like you do. I find this to be generally true with most people who do not believe in dispensationalism theology. The word "Bogus" is a strong word to be used by believers, as even is this video, Jesus clearly describes how you should treat one another, even as enemies. Hermeneutics is one thing. But, belief in Jesus as your savior is another. Did not Christ die for your brother also? I hope to see you one day and chat. In the meantime, God bless you brother!
