A promotional interview like this could've been so quick and easy to do, but no--with a Wes Anderson film, you get incredible, painstaking animation even for something that currently has about 140K views. I love it.
The people who made this, every single one, down to the lowest payed intern, had dedication. The animators, storyboard artists, and writers esspecially. Animators need it massively, given the emmence time and patience animation needs to succeed, Which I myself learned personally. Its the same with his other stop motion film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, which is a favorite film of mine along with Isle of dogs.
They animated the interviews. Not only that but they gave certain interviews a little more attention to detail, like Bill Murray getting interviewed in a car or Edward Norton basically eating his mic so the stop motion reflects the condition of the recording. Very cool.
I think more animated movies should do this like with Pixar, animate the cast when interviewing. Way I see it, Wes Anderson made his own impromptue Creature Comforts. And that is perfect. One marketing wayto get your viewers. Even if the film ends up bad or great, I think this route would be awesome.
That little detail of Rex speaking into the mic when the actor’s voice was louder and looking away from it when it’s lower...man, the attention to detail is amazing, and this is just for an interview. Awesome.
It sounds like the voice actors recorded these snippets themselves, and Edward messed his one up, so seeing the animators translate that into animation is just (chef's kiss)
I have watched Goldblum’s interview so many times. The facial expression on the animation, the nonchalant movements.. spot on and completely hilarious.
Yes I'm thinking this was strongly influenced by Creature Comforts.....every little sound is animated, even when the dog moves slightly away from the microphone.
this is so extra I love it, like how every little camera sound and vocal fluctuation is perfectly translated into the animated version this is so great
"The heart of a dog is a bottomless thing" - wow, that's a wonderful insight and way of putting it. Boss also has some extremely wise and insightful things to say! I cannot wait for this film! -from what I've personally seen of it, Isle of Dogs looks to be a masterful work of beautiful art.
You should watch 'Creature Comforts' By Aardman Studios ..... they recorded ordinary people and then imagined what they would be if they were animals.....wonderful! I think Wez was strongly influenced by them!
I think all cast interviews should now be done like this. Doesn't matter what the move is about or if it's animated just do the interviews like this. It would make them 100 times more interesting.
Gosh this is such a fantastic film. I wish the dogs had been fleshed out a bit more character-wise (other than spots, of course. He was fine). They all seemed pretty samey to me? Anyone else feel this way? Anyways it’s still one of my favorite films. Thanks, Wes.
I love how they animated this in such a way as to incorporate all the little additional things in the audio. Like Bill Murray is obviously in a car or something so they have Boss in a moving cart, and there's a few clicks and things in the second Murray part so they added a little shake to the cart thing to make up for it. Or Ed Norton going from loud to quiet so they have Rex face away from the microphone and also banging in to it, haha. I love those little details.
I could watch these interviews a hundred times over and I'd get the warm fuzzies each and every time. I can't remember ever feeling like Jeff Goldblum was cast as a character in a movie or TV show; instead, it's always felt like writers just wrote Jeff Goldblum into their narratives. I also can't stop giggling at the image of Bob Balaban in dog form, dressed as Little Jewish Puppy Lord Fauntleroy.
Just coming back to reminisce when I saw this film. My dog had just died... peacefully and we're all distraught about it. I used a quote from this clip said by Tilda Swinton where she said, "The Heart of a Dog is a Bottomless Thing". Could never have been far from the truth
Stop motion animation is a rare thing these days, so much work goes into creating every expression, every movement, there is something so incredibly authentic about it, as opposed to the CGI crammed into every other modern film.
This movie was amazing. I adored each dog and soon I was rooting for them. I have never seen a movie like this. I will definitely be purchasing this movie when it comes out for download.
I love how when Tilda Swinton abruptly finished her interview as if in mid-sentence, they portrayed her character looking awkward and confused for the next few seconds hahahaha.
This film was incredible. If you're a stopmotion or Wes Anderson fan, this is a great film, if stop motion might creep someone out with Uncanny Valley faces, it might not be the best choice. It truly is a masterpiece visually and the soundtrack is something I want to buy soon as possible. It was akin in a lot of ways to all Wes' films, but it has the biggest contrasts in some ways to his other work too. It's a lot of tribute to old classic Japanese films and theater and mural artworks and early propaganda posters as much as Wes' artistic thumbprint, and they synchronize beautifully. It's probably his darkest film, in some odd ways, yet the feel is always lighthearted and relaxed and unoppressive. I think it might be one of the most peculiar original films, and oddly, when you think hard about it, might be the closest thing we can come to a retelling of 'Plague Dogs'....as a comedy. Seeing that be written in a sentence is one of the strangest things ever if you're an animation fan. But it's true. And it works.
I anticipated this movie the a year and when it finally was in theaters I saw it ASAP! Loved it so much! The storyline I unique and heartfelt, then again Wes's movies are always so wonderful!
I'm gonna watch this movie all over again. Instantly become my comfort movie along with Ghibli's. Thank you Wes & production Team for making this beautiful movie ❤
They made the extra effort to make this stop motion, something that takes much longer than just recording the interview itself, I think that shows the level of care put into this movie.
The animation even for this is nothing short of mesmerizing for me. Animation in itslef is already painstakingly hard to do. Let alone stop-motion which is basically that but on very powerful steroids. The effort needed to make even a second of stop-motion must be almost incomprehensible, from my eyes. I watched this movie, and it is just amazing. Thanks. Cheers from an amateur Anglo-brazilian creator.
I will pay money to see any film that Wes Anderson creates. And probably more than once. This is more than I can say for any other person making films today.
I love this film so much. This is very cool lol. Watching this clip at work is making me miss my own dog, Raja. I can't wait to go home and play with him.
ISLE OF DOGS | Meet the Cast from Wes Anderson's Stop-Motion Animated Movie
Hey Chief

They animated the interviews. Not only that but they gave certain interviews a little more attention to detail, like Bill Murray getting interviewed in a car or Edward Norton basically eating his mic so the stop motion reflects the condition of the recording. Very cool.
Thanks for pointing that out,. i didn't even notice the first time, that's amazing!
I think more animated movies should do this like with Pixar, animate the cast when interviewing. Way I see it, Wes Anderson made his own impromptue Creature Comforts. And that is perfect. One marketing wayto get your viewers. Even if the film ends up bad or great, I think this route would be awesome.
Haha! I love Rex with the microphone, making it look like he’s actually interacting with it and making it sound fuzzy and all that.
Ava Edward norton probably recorded it on his mobile phone and they animated it like that to make it make sense 😂
:0 you have the same name as I do
That little detail of Rex speaking into the mic when the actor’s voice was louder and looking away from it when it’s lower...man, the attention to detail is amazing, and this is just for an interview. Awesome.
edward must've recorded his part on his phone, and that's why rex is speaking into the mic like that
Jeff Goldblum is a national treasure. A very weird treasure.
he's a global treasure, just as bill murray
you heard the rumour, right?
AaHAUEHAUWHWUEUAHAJEIQJJAUEJAJWJA
The moment when you realize it's your birthday on the same day as his... :)
2:36 - 2:45 🤨🤨🤨... Jeff, wtf are you talking about? I couldn't get Duke Ellington from any of that🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how they used stop motion for the interview too! Props to the animators, they really work a lot for stop motions
nekaana
nekaana bb v 6
+Arnold Maxius see MP
reminiscent of the old show Creature Comforts
I thought it was impressive that they even stop motioned the dogs, but they even put in the effort to put stop motion mice in the back ground!!!
It sounds like the voice actors recorded these snippets themselves, and Edward messed his one up, so seeing the animators translate that into animation is just (chef's kiss)
I love the fact that Tilda Swinton is a pug
Especially when she's a tall drink of water.
"...tall drink of water" - I'm stealing this. :P
By all means :)
Not just any pug, specifically a Companion breed pug!!!!
I have watched Goldblum’s interview so many times. The facial expression on the animation, the nonchalant movements.. spot on and completely hilarious.
Only Anderson can pull off something like this.
It kind of reminds me of this show Creature Comforts, where they interviewed people and animated it to make it look like they were talking to animals.
Yes I'm thinking this was strongly influenced by Creature Comforts.....every little sound is animated, even when the dog moves slightly away from the microphone.
Good profile picture
its like he has just the rite amount of 'bite' xD
"The heart of a Dog is a bottomless thing."
Favorite quote of this year.
I love that this whole thing is basically a nod to creature comforts by Aardman studios.
Yes agreed very similar to creature comforts, some may say exactly the same but love Wes so should be fun
"The Heart of a Dog is a bottomless thing." ... Made me cry.
''What does Nutmeg see in chief...'' I love how Chief instantly turns his head to her at that and then sits there pretending he's not listening. ;P
Can we make Jeff Goldblum immortal please
and Bill Murray
yea bbill 4everz
like if peter wankman and ian malcolm wasnt too much already ^^
That, uh... Sounds like a pretty good idea
You're underestimating his native power.
this is so extra I love it, like how every little camera sound and vocal fluctuation is perfectly translated into the animated version this is so great
rex does not know how to use a mic xD
"The heart of a dog is a bottomless thing" - wow, that's a wonderful insight and way of putting it. Boss also has some extremely wise and insightful things to say! I cannot wait for this film! -from what I've personally seen of it, Isle of Dogs looks to be a masterful work of beautiful art.
tilda is GODDESS
ONLY Wes could have the cast interviewed AS their characters - how original and splendidly WES!!
It’s quite funny how they worked around the quality of the recordings, distracting but cute
You should watch 'Creature Comforts' By Aardman Studios ..... they recorded ordinary people and then imagined what they would be if they were animals.....wonderful! I think Wez was strongly influenced by them!
theeggtimer tic tic thanks for the tip!
they should make plushies of the characters
Max YES
Plushies? Pfft.
WE NEED THE ENTIRE SET!!
I would bye
I think all cast interviews should now be done like this. Doesn't matter what the move is about or if it's animated just do the interviews like this. It would make them 100 times more interesting.
Bluebuthappy182 is eh, not really
This is giving me so much happiness right now.
hmmpf..you. *Your* 'comment' here *is* so.. *SOweird!* But interesting... *Wuff* wuff.. for you;))'tho..

Gosh this is such a fantastic film. I wish the dogs had been fleshed out a bit more character-wise (other than spots, of course. He was fine). They all seemed pretty samey to me? Anyone else feel this way? Anyways it’s still one of my favorite films. Thanks, Wes.

Tilda Swinton always the Oracle or the wise woman in every movie, lol I love her. Well in fact I loved this movie and each character. I cried a lot.
I love how they animated this in such a way as to incorporate all the little additional things in the audio. Like Bill Murray is obviously in a car or something so they have Boss in a moving cart, and there's a few clicks and things in the second Murray part so they added a little shake to the cart thing to make up for it. Jeff is pretty much most famous for his role in the jurrasic park movies
Just coming back to reminisce when I saw this film. My dog had just died... peacefully and we're all distraught about it. I used a quote from this clip said by Tilda Swinton where she said, "The Heart of a Dog is a Bottomless Thing". Could never have been far from the truth
BEST. ASMR. VIDEO. EVER.
Jeremy Lumban-Tobing especially Tilda Swinton's interview!👌😍
My class watched it. We all cried at several moments. A wonderful little movie
WHAT a voice F Murray Abraham has!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't place that accent
All of them really
Liev Schereiber in this interview was every bit as enrapturing as when he actually played Spots in the movie. Just brilliant.
i'm in love with the cast of this movie
scarlett johansson's voice is amazing
4:29 i love how Tildas voice suits that pug
2:53 HAHA I love how they made Chief listen to her! So adorable
It's one of my favourite movies..... ever .... thank you 🙏 ❤️
Dukes part made my heart grow, I love Jeff goldblum
Stop motion animation is a rare thing these days, so much work goes into creating every expression, every movement, there is something so incredibly authentic about it, as opposed to the CGI crammed into every other modern film.
I love how they engineered certain kinks in the audio into the animation to give it a more organic feel.
This movie is going to be awesome.
Their voices!!! 😍
Especially Ed Norton and Jeff Goldblum!!!!
Oracle, Duke and Rex are so cute 😍 Tilda sounds so lost as Oracle. 😂😂
Anyone who is excited for this film and has not seen "The Life Aquatic", or "The Fantastic Mr Fox" should go watch them right NOw!!
I love how Jeff Goldblum "zeng" Take the A Train, he´s just a legend you cant put it in words really...
I love this. I really, REALLY love this.

I love how they have the environment match the audio recording

I love everything about this movie 😍😍😍
04mapa same
Me too ❤
I love this movie. Well I think the story isnt that special but the execution (sculptures, animation and also composition of shots) is fantastic.
The amount of facial expression they manage to create with a dog is amazing
I anticipated this movie the a year and when it finally was in theaters I saw it ASAP! Loved it so much! The storyline I unique and heartfelt, then again Wes's movies are always so wonderful!
Jeff Goldblum never dissapointing us like always
I'm gonna watch this movie all over again. Instantly become my comfort movie along with Ghibli's. Thank you Wes & production Team for making this beautiful movie ❤
Isle of dogs I think is the best stop motion movie
They made the extra effort to make this stop motion, something that takes much longer than just recording the interview itself, I think that shows the level of care put into this movie.
Definitely one of the best Wes Anderson films! I love this movie!
I saw the movie last night and I liked it. I recommend it to those who already appreciate Anderson's dry humor.
The animation is so good! They got the anatomy and movement of the doggos spot on. So excited for this, as I loved "Fantastic Mr. Fox."
The animation even for this is nothing short of mesmerizing for me. Animation in itslef is already painstakingly hard to do. Let alone stop-motion which is basically that but on very powerful steroids. The effort needed to make even a second of stop-motion must be almost incomprehensible, from my eyes. I am so looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm a big Wes Craven fan.

The animation is so good. I love and admire all the people behind this magnificent work.
I will pay money to see any film that Wes Anderson creates. And probably more than once. This is more than I can say for any other person making films today.
I love it! Tipical Wes-movie!!!

Jeff Goldblum is pure comedian even in interviews

I love dogs.
This is amazing! I wish all movies would still do this.
everyone talking about jeff which is fair because he’s a treasure but BRYAN is spectacular
"Of course Duke Ellington!"
Wes Anderson is my favorite! I loved his use of pastel colors in Moonrise Kingdom and the grand budapest hotel. This movie is going to be cool.
best thing i've seen in years
I love this film so much. This is very cool lol.
Watching this clip at work is making me miss my own dog, Raja. I can't wait to go home and play with him.
I would gladly spend an afternoon 🐕 sitting any of these pups.
i have really no idea why, but i loved this, can't wait to see the movie
When I saw Bryan on the cast, I had to see this.
the animators took extra time to make this. incredible.
