Indian Ocean, widely considered as the biggest success of the Indian underground music scene, started their journey in the 90s. The blend of shlokas, environmentalism, Sufism, mythology and revolution in a jazzy ambience have led Indian Ocean into the forefront of Indian fusion music.
An initiative of Sun Foundation; ‘Dhaka International FolkFest’ is a celebration of sheer musical brilliance where myriads of folk artistes from home and abroad perform on a single platform.
৯০-এর দশকে যাত্রা শুরু করা ইন্ডিয়ান ওশেন ভারতের আন্ডারগ্রাউন্ড মিউজিক ঘরানা থেকে উঠে আসা সবচেয়ে সফল এবং জনপ্রিয় একটি ব্যান্ড। নিজেদের সংগীতে শ্লোক, সুফি সংগীত এবং জ্যাজ এর সংমিশ্রণে করে তারা পাকাপোক্ত জায়গা করে নিয়েছে ভারতের ফিউশন মিউজিকে।
সান ফাউন্ডেশনের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত ‘ঢাকা ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফোকফেস্ট’ লোকসংগীতের এক মিলনমেলা। এ উৎসবে বিশ্বের নানা প্রান্তের লোকসংগীত শিল্পীদের পরিবেশনায় অসাধারণ সব লোকগান শোনার সুযোগ পায় বাংলাদেশের মানুষ।

A humble attempt at translating this song:
(Premise: God/nature/creation speaking to his so-called devotees, the fanatics who are instituting a riot)
1st verse: God: Stop, wait for a minute devotee/faithful (the word is used here in a distinct sense of sarcasm), because the universe is mocking you (laughing at you) and your self-righteous confidence/destruction
2nd verse: God points out what the so-called devotee is actually doing while he thinks he is doing God's work
Look around, see what you re doing:
So many are injured, so many are starving ( the dreamers, the huddled masses, etc), in so much pain that the city is about to break apart at the seams (The word karwat here is used in its old Urdu sense, and not the Hindi meaning "turn")
3rd verse: This is where the whole song comes together in the iconic finale
God (the one God, who is the sum total of all the different forms of religion now speaks to all the different groups of fanatics )
Look, the Hindu temple is quiet, and so is the Muslim mosque because you are not the definition of devout- your prayers are weak and ineffective, and God is not with you, even though you use him to justify your actions.
Due to your hatred and violence, the very mists/sands of time have turned red & the streets have turned into cemeteries, and as you walk along in this blinding sandstorm of hate (a very strong visual imagery here)...
Final verse:
Can you really tell who is the real infidel? who is the real coward? Or are you just counting down moments to the time when you become the hunted!!!!
The song then ends with God's final plea to the fake devotee to rethink his actions and maybe change his path!

There are so many bands in Indian fusion scene today , Check out the South Indian bands like Agam , Masala coffee band . But if you’re talking sufi-esque , yes we don’t have . But you can find similar music from the African desert music bands like Tinariwen and some Bands from Mali

I was present in the live performance of the song at Dhaka Army Stadium. I enjoyed the song sitting in the third row. I was so overwhelmed, I literally cried. I think the song is appealing to stop conflicts in the name of religion though the film was set in the context of a terrorist attack in Anurag Kashyap's signature movie 'Black Friday'. In Bangladesh, a polarization was taking place that time in 2015 between political Islamists and the seculars. A series of targeting killing was taking place and for that the song appeared to me with an additional layer.
