My beloved father was posted to RAF Laarbruch from 1972 to 1976. Your video stirred up many emotions, it was interesting being a kid and living near the camp and so wish my dad was still with us to share these memories. Cpl Jimmy Jones, you are deeply missed - the very best dad a lad could have had.x
Was there as an SAC MT Driver from 87 to 90. Did a year on tankerpool and time on shift. Squadrons were 2 Sqdn ,Jags till May 88 then Tornado GR1a (Photo recce) 15 , 16 and 20 Squadrons all on Tornado GR1.
I was there on II(AC). 81-83. Looking back i loved it. Went back 4 years ago and found my old apartment in Weeze. Bought my first ever car there. VW dealer now gone. 15 & 16 Buccs were resident then. Best wishes
My father was also based at the camp in the early 60's. Corporal James watt downie (RAF police) I came to the base at 6 months old and stayed until I was perhaps 3yo. We resided in the married quarters.
Brilliant and brings back so many memories. My dad was stationed there from '73 - '76 and I worked behind that bar in the Malcolm club in the holidays.
Memories,Memories, Was part of the SWOs gang on laarbruch '84 to '87, What a laugh. Most lunchtimes spent in the Mally being served by Rita behind the bar. Worked out of the guardroom with Cpl 'Needemier' and Flt Sgt Taylor . In quarters at Weeze right behind the Little City which became the regular haunt on the weekends being served by Pete and Heidi before heading down town to the Bistro Lobby etc. Fond memories tinged with sadness.
Amazingly nostalgic - although as I was there as a child in the 60s, some changes. We lived in Slessor Crescent - amazing to see that photo, and also the school / cinema. Thanks for stirring some memories.
Served there in the 70's.. Some great memories and good times. Sad to see it's demise though.. Thanks for the video.. Brought back some interesting memories..
Gosh that brought chills, so many memories, going to the youth club & the swimming pool, the naafi with my parents, playing with toys in the bank, going to the dentist (where told needed braces yet never been given them yet!) Helping in the thrift shop with my mam........& those mally club kitchens, my gosh I could see my mam at that big grill range & me sitting at the worktops to the right of that blue door playing with my My Little Ponies during the school holidays lol, going round that main road thru married quarters on the last days of school bouncing over the sleeping policemen. Wonder what happened to all the animals our school (Rhine Middle School) had in the animal farm
I know time's changing stuff, but RAF Laarbruch was a posting when I was 4 years old, I remember it well and always felt safe, I never felt unrest, we had armed guards one time on our school bus, I still never felt fear!
Met the only true love I had in my life here. She was a massive part of my life but sadly we are not together anymore. Memories are the thing I hang onto now wish I could turn back the clock sometimes. No regrets but wonderfull times of my childhood and the 16 years I had in Germany. Still go to see friends in weeze now but still great for ice cream parlour and of course the food.
@@leehellam9719 Do you remember Miss Walon, Mr Birch Head Master and Mr Wilson the Deputy Head, good old days! I remember the bowling alley, picture house saw the first Superman film and the outdoor pool! Did you live in Weezer in the flats or the houses opposite across the field where the NAFFI was 🙂
@@leehellam9719 I remember the woods many a Sunday we had a family walk in those woods, then we would go to Toni's ice cream parlour! Loved carnival day too, all those floats and sweets thrown at you lol!
@@sharonhyde7735 I remember my green school satchel and on my first day at school I had a cone (Schultüte?) filled with sweets and stationary! Also the playground was massive with lots of concrete lol

Yes, sad indeed, however as the politics and political-game players change, also the Army Navy and Air-Force roles change as well. It's difficult to to judge for better or for worse. People, families and their destinys are regretfully also effected.
I came here for a week as an Air Cadet Corporal from my Squadron in Christchurch Dorset(Homefield) 1977 and it was a complete dump. The only Officer who talked to me was Flying Officer Gary Smith (Jaguar Pilot) who was Duty Pilot in the Tower. Other Officers seemed very pompous and had little time for us at all.
I laughed so hard when the parking sign came up, as remember the day some poor bugger....an officer I think had his brand new car blown up by metal micky because he left it there and wasn't registered in camp yet 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 remember that Malcolm club kitchen well, my mam worked there and I would go with her during school holidays, I used to sit just to the right of those cookers
But is your life still there? I served there from 1976 to 1978. I was MTD and an active member of the Welton Theatre. Great times. Ngunit ang buhay mo ay naroon pa rin? Naglingkod ako roon mula 1976 hanggang 1978. Ako ay MTD at isang aktibong miyembro ng Welton Theatre. Magagandang oras.

Happy days... in living in Weeze and working at The Mally after I left school. 😊❤
I was born and raised near RAF Wildenrath, it was very sad for me to see the RAF leaving.

I am so sad to see all the Army - RAF Camps shut down and left to Rot!!
I wish they were either Flattened or Redeveloped!
Hi Glenn. You will be pleased to know that not all is lost as Laarbruch is now a commercial airport.
Was there 83-86
83 - 85 SCAF
Ahhhh, the pizza from Alfredos
