    When the edition first came out I heard “oh the word bearer trait isn’t that good” or “drawing in combats don’t happen often” almost every game my leadership buff comes into play and I have tied combats in every game. I love my crimson armed lunatics! Great video y’all!

      Yep, that tie breaker is more useful than you would think, combined with leadership penalties and lower leadership it can really swing battles.

    How can you not love the Word Bearers? As an Alpha Legion fan, they are second only to us when it comes to backstabbery! 😁
    That being said, I do have a 6 strong Gal Vorbak squad for those days my Alpha Legion needs a bit of staying power in close combat (and I use a Tyrant Siege terminator squad instead if I feel I need a bit more shooting strength from a hard to dislodge position) thanks to Rewards of Treachery (AL doesn't really excel at neither CC nor shooting, so this rule allows them to compensate by filling in at least a single slot with a unit borrowed from other legions)
    edit: I do have the resin character models, including Lorgar and the special, corrupted contemptor, simply because I like the models. I might just do a WB army some day. It would be a nice change with a mix of grey and metallic deep red instead of all the metallic blue

      Yeah, Rewards of Treachery for 'some' units never makes sense to me. Especially things like the Gal Vorbak that are fallen to the Gods powers. How they could also be 'treacherous' to the Ruinous Powers is one of those catches wit the Alpha Legion rules and lore I think.
      But definitely start up a Word Bearers force. Another low model count army!

      @@australia5554 if you're going to start a WB army, I've found it works super well if you lean hard into the shitheadery aspect of the legion. Take every advantage the dark gods will give you and you will be rewarded!

      @@Extreaminatus thank you. Yeah, as an old (well, 18 months) Alpha Legion player, not going to win any saint hood soon 😄
      The benefit of playing friends is, you can try out things just for fun to see what works and what doesn't. We do love our narrative play, so thematic/narrative armies are generally preferred (and lots of beer)

      @@australia5554 Oh, for sure. Some of the most fun games I've had were against Alpha Legion because they're so sneaky and have all those dirty tricks.
      And yeah, the fun friendly beer games I've had led to my massive deep strike assault WB list that I've been running in every game of 2e now. It's dumb, but it's fluffy (Serrated Sun), fun, and a huge gamble. So much dopamine for me in this game with this army.

      My "crazy idea" for a WB detachment is/was around sticking all units, including my Gal Vorbak, into drop pods and just rain corruption from the sky, I might need a dreadclaw drop pod for my whatsitsname the corrupted contemptor dreadnought, as well as working out to do the warp fire weapon conversion for a few support squads. Bearing in mind, it's a side project and I currently struggle to straighten out some large resin pieces in warm water for my handful of Storm Eagles and Fire Raptors (Alpha Legion) for a fully airborne army! 😖
      edit: the flyers are not alone of course, spearheading the detachment is a consul with the pathfinder upgrade (because I've never seen anyone use that) leading units of seekers, headhunters and scouts

    Burning Lore/Dark Channelling:
    This upgrade giving entire squads Fear 1 means that pinning checks, such as from coming on the board with Deep Strike Assault or from short range Warpfire Blaster shots (also coming in using Deep Strike Assault), are just that much more likely to succeed. It also means that after combat morale checks your opponents have to take are at an additional -1 as well, which makes a sweeping roll-off more likely if you win a combat.
    The Burning Lore buff psychic power also combos very well with a Biomancy Librarian, The Dark Brethren Rite of War, and the Enslaved by Darkness Warlord trait. Having a Praetor potentially reach the lofty goal of being as strong and tough as a dreadnought (assuming everything goes according to plan) shouldn't be overlooked.

      Not going to lie, the Psychic power synergies are not our forte so thanks for pointing them out.
      Warpfire pinning we are a fan of, so all good points there. Thanks

      No problem! I've been playing Word Bearers since early 1st addition, so this is really the only legion I have enough experience with to comment on.

    Only thing I think you missed on the Warpfire weapons is they lose Gets Hot, so no longer a risk to kill themselves while shooting…
    (Unless I missed you saying that)

    • @fareastwargaming
      @fareastwargaming  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes we did miss that point. But it seems to be a recurring theme with modified plasma weapons. When the remove the gets hot, the lower the Str. Thanks for pointing this out.

    People sleep on Lorgar. You can get him to WS10, S12 & T7 with brutal 2. yes it takes a few turns but even at WS8 he starts causing problems to other primarchs especially after hes thrown a Sovereign at them the turn before

    • @fareastwargaming
      @fareastwargaming  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, you can get him there in optimal scenarios. But I think realistically, if/when he's head on with most anyone else he's coming out loser there I'm afraid. But force multiplier, demon summoner. Can defiantly win a game vs other Primarchs.

    Great content but please stop comparing everything to first edition. The current edition has been out for well over two years now and the old rules have no bearing on the discussion of what is good or not today. Just serves to slow the discussion down.
