This time of year brings it all back, I sat on Plymouth Hoe on Wednesday 25th May 2016 in the exact spot I sat with Chas Charnock and watched Alacrity sail home, we were advanced leave party. A pensionable aged couple sat beside me and asked if I was OK as tears were running down my face , when I explained I got a kiss on the cheek from lady and her husband shook my hand an said you lot did a remarkable job down there and the country was proud and still is, let us leave you with your memories and God bless you a true hero. I sat there gob smacked with real feeling of pride, just goes to show there are still some real genuine people around.
@ naiad49 HMS Alacrity alongwith 5 other Type-21 Frigates (which were basically made redundant and de-commissioned by the Royal Navy) were then acquired by Pakistan in 1994. HMS Alacrity was then commissioned in Pakistan Navy as PNS BADR and is still in service and defending the sea frontiers of Pakistan. I am the lucky one having served onboard BADR as FCPO (WEA (WDO)-II).
Brendancoul.......I love it when ex Alacrity men watch and comment on this tribute. The Royal Navy men and ships went and did their duty when and where they were told no matter what the odds......that has been the Royal Navy way throuhout it's history.........you carried it on in 82.
Hey Guys, I have some some footage of HMS Alacrity from 1982 in the Indian Ocean with my old ship the Kiwi Leander class frigate HMNZS Waikato (F55) and RFA Grey Rover, Great to see these old warhorse's in action and not just photo's. At least the Kiwi's were the 1st to offer our help during the Falklands campaign and offered to send ships to the Falklands for a scrap but were asked to relieve RN ships doing the IO patrol instead.
I know its is greatly appreciated by the crew of 82 Naiad and im sure you will be most welcome on the Alacrity website,as Captain MIke Layard RN Captain of Atlantic Conveyor(RN Captain) (Ex First Sea Lord ) said at one of our reunions quote you dont know what you achieved during the Falklands War :unquote thanks for reminding us
thanks flash it made cry as well and squirell hope you doing okay matey i think we had a expextection we might die on May 10th,if im honest i said my lords prayer and waited for the battle to begin im not proud od killing peopl alacrity was the the ship that god smiled on
Then this video is dedicated to you and your fellow crew members. In my mind you are Heros and always will be..............I will never forget what our men did........be Proud.....Always.
Old ships for me from 79 TO 80. Remember a fine ships company and some great times. The China visit was.....well let's just say.....different. Then the iraq/Iran conflict kicked off and my Station leave in Singers was cur short.....as they say...life in a blue suit. Respects to any old shipmates.
@nice1squirel These men of the Royal Navy may pass away, but their spirit will go on..........like all Royal Navy men before............you are the Best.
You are right Niad where we proud of killing 21 poeple in one hit No 12 years later the crew of Alacrity commissioned a lasting memorial to the crew of the estados it now stands by Swan Island can be viewed at the Alacrity website we had an expectatation we would die that night but all the crew whilst silent did there duty thanks for the video a tribute to your talent and our bravery

@nice1squirel If we ever bump into each other ,it would be an honour to have a drink with you. That goes for any Royal Navy man. You must have only been about 17 when you were on the Naiad.
