That was a great job! I enjoyed it very much. I must say as a previous cord board supervisor, the rules were very strict. Only key with your index finger, no good morning/afternoon etc., and no listening in! lol. Thanks Again!
Thank you for the well-done video and particularly for mentoring your collection. I found it amusing to see your switchboard operator wearing an apple watch again thanks for the demonstration.
Greetings from Dublin Ireland. Great video, thanks for sharing this with us all. I started working with the Post Office in 1961. There was still a lot of magneto exchanges at this time in Ireland. Thanks again Jarlath
I would love to see you on a Michael Savage Podcast when he reflects through his writing journals on how life was before cell phones. I think your videos are awesome. In my 50s and we were never educated about the nature of what you put together..... everything from Having manners, to a society that's been outsourced. I'm starting to see people wanting the older things back. I believe if the equipment was properly maintained, it should work. Car collectors want vintage items because of the value they hold. Thank You for putting these videos out there.....think of all of the Women who never even had a chance or the opportunity to work in a field of this profession.
Very cool to see it hands-on in real life, so to speak. I've always wondered what went on behind the scenes (and not like in Hollywood movies). Thanks for creating and posting!
If you referring to the non-dial six buttons that it was set up for a manual exchange there is nothing that will detect any dial pulses these were ultra rare because most of the manual changes we're long replaced before the 1A2 was developed. Having a dial or not does not determine if it's a 1A2 system

wow this is incredibly cool, Phil! I especially loved the long distance portion where he used the special operator tones!

Fan tastatic! Made my week and took me back
Remember those headsets very well.
Now if you had a couple TD or TJ KS-15636 in the mix I’d be back home.
Amazing work Phil!!

Enjoyed this very much
Awesome setup and collection
is that astrid and sara from the connections museum at 10:22 ?
Yes. I invited them to join in on a call.
@@sxsphil thats so cool!
I have a toll calling switchboard from the 50s (?) How can I determine the model information?
Upload a pic. Maybe it can be identified
Very cool to see it hands-on in real life, so to speak. I've always wondered what went on behind the scenes (and not like in Hollywood movies). Thanks for creating and posting!
Amazing. Who all did you get to participate in this?
Patti, Jim, Aerial, Craig, Lorraine, Martin, Sarah, æstrid, Remco, Shane & Myself - Was really fun!
So the DTMF transfer was going over to the crossbar switch (or the 1A) and the rotary transfer was going to the SXS?
Awesome setup
Also, we were never shown or made aware of these professions in highschool or college......A lost Generation.
@2:50 how does the operator know that the parties have ended their conversation if this switchboard has no lights? Is there a buzzer?
There are lamps on the key-shelf in-front of the cords that light when the call is finished.
in rural areas isnt it one long ring to alert operator you’re done, i just discovered phones this week
Does this still exist today?
Yes
Amazing !!
How can I send you a pic of my switchboards?

May I inquire about the blue 1a2 desk telephone, how would a 1a2 system work with no dial, or is this something completely different?

@@sxsphil oh ok, thank you. I wasn't sure as most 1a2 systems have an intercom proponent, but I assume thay would be an in house operator.
Why does 3323 become 2333?
Very cool
Awsome
This is cool, is it a hobby? It should be
Yes
Hi Phil
