Why China Needs Vietnam

  • China and Vietnam share deep historical ties and robust economic connections, with a bilateral trade of $175.6 billion in 2022. However, territorial disputes in the South China Sea and Vietnam's efforts to diversify foreign relations add complexity. Their future relationship hinges on economic ties, territorial challenges, domestic politics, and external influences. Both nations tread carefully, understanding the broader regional implications.

Of course, they will try to maintain a relationship of cooperation due to mutual interests as neighbors. For Vietnam, it will maintain a balanced relationship between China and the U.S. out of practicality. You may not like your neighbor, but your neighbor is permanent. As for the so-called China's BRI in Vietnam, that is not really true. Of course, China would like to claim as such around the world. Infrastructure projects in Vietnam are for domestic needs such as the big metro rail transit projects in Hanoi and HCMC. The one in HCMC is funded by loans from Japan, while that of Hanoi is from China. There was an open bid to international parties to fund and build the project under WTO rules. China put in the lowest bid and using huge bribes on officials to win the project. As usual with many projects with China, it took several extra years to finish and raising the cost which had doubled. Lastly, China do have significant investments in Vietnam, though far behind other countries (S. Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan). China placed at around 9th in the past and in recent years at about 6th. The recent surge of factories coming from China is mainly due to the trade sanction with the U.S. and wage difference is a minor reason. Wages in China are actually in decline and many workers cannot find jobs there. China's official youth unemployment rate is 21%, but the realistic rate is much higher.

China is a rising power where it’s feel it was the victim in the last 100 years and want the world to respect its position in the world today and moving forward. But it’s military and it’s building up and have missiles around its neighbor borders and using its new modern military to bully its neighbors are not so much a way to gain trust and friends and respect.
Yes, we maybe fear of China starting wars but Vietnam has deal with China since China was United with the first emperor. Today VN have master the art of war and diplomacy while China acts like the Northern Barbarians from the North of China back in ancient tjme. China must realize this is 2023 and the world is small and China/Trung Quoc (Middle Kingdom) is not the Middle Kingdom of the old.
The world has change and i wish that China rise to power through economic means and not through military. This should be China rise to power by economic and lift all countries. This is how China can earn respects and admirations and will be equal to the US or even take over the US as the most robust economy in the world.

To many peoples who does No the history between Vietnam and China. China have view Vietnam as part of China whom they have allow to govern independence for a long time because North Vietnam was once part of the Nanyue empire that was annex by the Han of China in 111 BC. In 938 AD, Northern part of Vietnam called Dai Viet fought and gain their independence from the Han China. Providing Dai Viet have to pay tribute to the emperor or ruler ever year to prevent being annex by China until the British came in brought down the last ruling Chinese empire the Ming. While the French came to Vietnam during a power struggle between Vietnam two nobble family the Nguyen and Trinh. The France sent their French military troops to support the Noble House Nguyen to defeat the Noble House Trinh and the Ming Chinese allies in Vietnam for the thrown of Vietnam. This is how France, Great Britian, Spain, and Portuguese does it to colonize these country. They sent their christian priest all across Asia and these priest rely information of the turmoil of power struggle within these Asian countries back to the Kings of their home country. These european kings sent their troops to support one of faction against the other. After one of the other asian monarchy faction defeat the other monarchy faction. China, Vietnam and most Southeast Asian countries do not have unresolvable conflicts. The oil and gas dispute in the South China Sea is not an intractable problem. Pragmatic leaders will solve this problem through consultation and sharing. We can achieve equality, unity and peace in Southeast Asia.
Western media focus on regional conflicts and hope to gain benefits from conflicts in the region. You must know that every trading country does not want a war happening around it, because capital prefers a safe environment.
The Russo-Ukrainian war brought huge economic losses to Europe, most of which went to the United States and a small part to Asia.
I don't want to make a friendship statement, let investment and money do the talking. We are very willing to compete with Western countries to invest in Southeast Asia. Because the results will tell everyone who is investing heavily in local construction and who is trying to provoke a war.
Of course many people will question China's capabilities and believe that she will fail and be destroyed in this competition.
It's a waste of time to refute this stupid question and we'll have smarter partners.

The Viet people exist in our current border before the Chinese come with their war. But Chinese books left that out and act like we dont exist at all.
The Communist actually doesnt have to teach us anything, cause the Communist didnt exist before our generation of granparents was born. Children still able to hear the authentic story without books.
