Serious thanks for everyone's support, didn't expect this to take off! This was meant to be an equipment test for the Juno more than anything else, so I'm glad it's encouraged some of you to get a hand on this powerhouse of a workstation and delve into the phrase pad. I just wish I put in more on the performance side and picked a better bass sound haha! A lot of questions to answer so I might do a runthrough video to help some of you out, so watch this space! But to answer some of them in the meantime: - I'd definitely recommend this synth, particularly for 80s-style synth-filled music - which seems to be making a resurgence as of recent. - That is a naughty Floyd solo in the middle (always take risks)! Keyboards aren't normally great at accurately replicating other instruments, but the clean guitar sound on this is fantastic. - Unfortunately you can't record a mic input into the pattern sequencer - but you CAN plug your mic in and even use it as a USB audio interface, which more than compensates for it! - We do have hamburgers and fries in England but we call french fries 'chips'. If you like this video, please consider donating so I can keep this music thing going. Any donations, no matter how small, would be massively appreciated. paypal.me/tommonksmusic Cheers again and catch you all soon! T x
Wow. You need to get some blue and purple lights goin. I cant imagine how "cool" you feel performing this song. If I could pull this off w a voice like that.. Id have a bomber jacket, some stonewashed jeans, some gold cowboy boots and a pair o sic sunglasses..w the synthwave glow all around me, sensitive to the music..it be like a non stop joygasm..heaven even.. cheers mate. Just wow. Great job
You sure nailed that song! Incredible. I bought the vinyl record a month after it was released brand new and played it hundreds of times and you really had all of the little nuances of the song. Brought back memories. Thanks.
I was wondering why the algorithm suggested this video for me (ok, had watched some synth-videos, that must be it) but I'm definitely delighted I watched this. Excellent one-man-band action that had all kinds of interesting happening all the time. I also definitely liked the Pink Floyd-part played in - bravo! And on top of everything your vocals sounded excellent! You sure have a earned a like and I will check your other stuff as well...
Really cool 😎👍🏼. I just purchased the DS-88 yesterday. It is my first 88 Hammer action keyboard ever. I will incorporate it into my musical array of sounds and instruments. I actually do similar thing on my channel where I practice with the different gear instruments that I have and use the channel just to express my practice sessions. Cheers from California US👌🏼💪🏼
I already had been tempted for this to be my first ever piano/synthesizer. I’m a guitar player for about 13 years and looking for into full fledged music recording. Your another brick in the wall solo in this totally convinced me. I ordered one and it’s on the way in 3 days
Best demo and cover of the juno ds88 . I'm a guitar player and have the ds61 to do some easy backing for band . I was looking to upgrade to 88 semi weighted keys and tried other synths . All way to complicated for live gigging and twice as expensive . I like the simplicity of the juno ds 88 and simple sequencer at this price point . I also like the rs 2000 , way better piano but no sequencer or drums and twice the price . Any I ther recommendations . Tried the the korg nautilus and it took five minutes to boot up . Most likely going with ds88
Nice one, I was looking around to see what people are doing with Junos cos I'm considering one and that's a good demo of the things they can do just as a performance instrument but there's a lot more to them of course!
In theory, yes you could with a lot of songs! Although it'd ultimately depends on how complex the song's structure is, being limited to 8 different parts with a max of 8 bars each. So songs that are based on a bass/drum/chord loop, yes definitely! Which paves the way for a lot of famous songs. But something like Good Vibrations or Rhapsody in Blue might be a different story haha
Did you do what I think you did? Did you throw in a little David Gilmour jam in the middle of a New Order song? Maybe just coincidence, but man that was good.
this is really great. to show how juno ds can work to performing high level of synth masterpiece Music. you are a great singer to. please do a cover of tears for fears mad world
That was great! I'm here because I'm getting a juno ds so I'm happy it can sound this good. Do you still do this kind of thing? If you did weekly. Content you'd probably do well.
Never too late! That's the Jump Brass patch, it's number 92 in the Brass tab. I adjusted the vibrato of the patch in the Part Edit section to Rate +6, Depth 47 and +Delay +15 to get that wobbly effect. Hope that comes in handy!
Hey i just got the juno ds and was wondering if you could find a way to record your vocals into a pattern sequence with the mic input? Also could i plug a guitar into the input and record that?
Thanks so much! I used AKG K90's in this video which were brilliant, but also quite fragile and unfortunately eventually gave in. Sounded great tho! Nowadays I use Sennheiser ATH-M40x's. I'm no headphone connoisseur but they definitely serve my purposes!
I have a Juno DS but I can’t match many of the sounds that I’m hearing on yours. Did you import instruments? Either that or I’m not good at finding them. 😂
Good question .... honest review coming up! It really depends what you need and what kind of genres you play. It's great for synth-type stuff, a true powerhouse in that aspect. And perfect for cover bands especially with the split and sampler function, and even Richard Tandy from ELO uses one live! But if you do jazz, blues etc and require realistic piano and hammond sounds, I'd honestly advise looking into other options. Those ones in it and in the expansion packs are more than enough to get by in pubs and small gigs, but anything bigger than that, the 80s/90s-ness of the sounds became a bit too noticeable for my liking. That's where this keyboard honestly didn't suit my tastes and needs in the long run (unless using as a controller for MainStage etc), but if I had continued with the 80s/cover band route it would have been perfect. In short - the sounds can be (in my opinion) a little dated, albeit charmingly so, and if that's what you're after, it's the best! It's capable of a lot too. Just listen to as many demos as you can, especially of the sounds you plan on using. Bestest with your keyboard ventures!
Man. There any way you can break down how you build stuff like this? I've got the same keyboard and I'm so lost with the thing. It's my first time playing with something like this.
It takes some practice to got the grip on the sequencer, but is not that hard at all. I recommend that you check out this video: th-cam.com/video/lsr5p08LrDs/w-d-xo.html

Just go and get yours. You won't be disappointed. Is an amazing machine for the bucks.
so you can record and play complete songs with intro, verse, bridge, and chorus with this beauty?

That was great! I'm here because I'm getting a juno ds so I'm happy it can sound this good. Do you still do this kind of thing? If you did weekly. Content you'd probably do well.
I know I’m late but could you tell me what the name of that patch you played in your right hand at 1:36

Hey mate. Any chance you could let me know which patches you used? This is fantastic
Awesome! What kind of headphones do you have to connect to it?
