I was wondering if those airlayer pots they offer on the internet would actually work. Now I know they do.😊 Excellent video, very informative. Thanks for posting it!
Excellent video. I have a few air layers (first time trying), so I am looking for all of the information I can get. Subscribed and definite thumbs up sir.
You have had much better results than I managed. I have some new trees but not as much root. Hopefully they will put on more now they have been separated. Not so much luck with my crab apple air layers. I have callusing but no roots yet. I may have to leave the pods on until next year and cover them in bubble wrap.
thanks for the update. Great results. I did notice that when I was looking at the pods on the internet they reckon you should have roots within 6 weeks with the results you have maybe it is true. Our spring starts soon already picked out a few branches with trees in the ground I want to airlayer
Hi Corin. i living in New Zealand and its summer hear now and wants to do some airlaerings now can u tell me from how young branches can i use to airlaer from thanks for all the help and time to come back to us
Hi... When you remove the new plants, you only reduce the amount of foliage or sometimes you cut all the top to prevent the extra loss of umidity? Thanks
is it possible to get air layer pots that allow the roots to go out radially by their design, sort of flatter and perpendicular to the chosen trunk. Would help in the long term development of the tree. Awesome vid Corin, hats off to any enthusiast or business that puts out instructional vids for people not able to get to lectures, lessons or clubs.
Thank you very much Ray. We are always trying to give help and advice back into the bonsai community. They are our business and life. The roots, I tend to pot up the air layers, and don't disturb roots too much, but then take them back more flat at next re-potting once you are dealing with a developed root system.
How long would you allow these to 'rest' before attempting further root work in order to set up a radial root system? Keen to see that process on camera if possible? Ps. Great to see you at the expo a few weeks back! Cheers!
Hi Corin, could you please do a 'Part 4' on after care of an air layer. Ive been air layering Shishigashira's in the last few years, but I don't have a successful survival rate after I have removed from parent tree and potted them up.
When will you work the roots on those air layers? Next spring or the one after? Im asking because I bought an airlayer Katsura whose roots had never beek worked on and they hardened in a very bad form which makes it more difficult to fix now, after a few years.
I have used the split pots and just wrapping in plastic so will try the pods next year. You planted your layers in akadama whereas Peter Chan just puts his in pots with more sphagnum, any reason for the difference?
Great video. If u can help i did a ground layer for better nabari on my chinese elm in june and it put out some roots but not enough to cut off. Its almost fall here so im wondering next year should i cut some of the original roots off and maybe the ground layers roots will start growing more vigorous or leave it alone and hopefully next year i will just get more roots from the ground layer.i did the split pot method with spagnum moss.thanks! Love the channel
I have a kotohime that I airlayered. It doesn't look like yours at all, no roots whatsoever. I did see some slugs though. I guess I'l try again next year, maybe add a copper ring or something. Would you agree?

Thanks Corin. All good information. Nice to see the plasterer's mesh still being used, one of the good tips I got on a Greenwood course.
that stuff is so handy
Another fantastic fascinating subject that you make look so easy? many of us have tried and failed attempts in air layering great followup ;-)

Brilliantly informative

A great video. Fantastic Thanks for sharing Greetings from Spain, Barcelona and until the next video👍😄
Informative as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Wow they really turned out great results. I remember watching the video where you did the air layering.

Extremely helpful...Many thanks. Keep um coming..Please.
Your finger will die off if you don't take that ring off. At least let it get done bigger. Love your trees btw
Awesome content!!
Those pods are a fantastic idea. I haven’t ventured into air layering as yet but next year I’ll have a go. 👍

So is it possible to repot te air layering cut even in autumn, without damaging to the new plant?
Shishigashira is SOO badass!!

Hi. after care once removed, is we pop them into a un heated greenhouse for a bit of shelter and keep them well watered.
Outstanding.
Wow that’s nice roots. Did you water air laying everyday ?
no, every few days, just keep it moist
Have you ever tried using honey to help the rooting agent stick to the area where you want roots to form?
What mesh are u using
Excellet video....
I had decent results with some 3d printed air layer pods. Just cut down a silver maple air layer and the pod was full of roots after 60 days.
Hi. I see you do not scrape away at the cambium. Many people say it's a must?
I cut through the cambium layer and removed it
Thanks.
just close your eyes and imagine eddie hall showing you trees
More videos please
Another fantastic video. Very informative. Do you have the same success with Hawthorn & Blackthorn air layers?
Wow! You are doing a great job! How old the mother plant is?
Maybe around 20 years old ?
When will you work the roots on those air layers? Next spring or the one after? Im asking because I bought an airlayer Katsura whose roots had never beek worked on and they hardened in a very bad form which makes it more difficult to fix now, after a few years.
I pot them for a year to establish, and then sort them out the year after
I have used the split pots and just wrapping in plastic so will try the pods next year. You planted your layers in akadama whereas Peter Chan just puts his in pots with more sphagnum, any reason for the difference?
Because at some point you have to transfer to a soil rather than moss, and I find that is the best time to do it, and it works very well.

Try it again early to mid May
how about fertilization after collecting these? is it ok to apply it, or should it be done later?
Yes, you can probably get one feed in this year. But in this case I leave them
Please can I ask what tools you use and are they available to buy I liked the shear's you used with the green handles

I want to try air layering on a maple in my mums that my grandma had at her house when I was a kid and she used to love. So only for a plant rather than as a bonsai
I guess I’m too late when should I do it next year ?
The process is driven by the foliage above the cut. So late spring, early summer, when the new leaves are fully up and running.
Late May or early June depending on leaf growth.
Cheers guys
