Sounds straight out of 1991, where the sound of the 1980s became a little modernized. If you listen to bands such as Extreme you will see why. Jump forward 2 decades to 2011, with an album from White Widdow, called Serenade, which well-represents Will Clark. There are hints of Haywire and Michael Bolton in here, which sound more like early 1990s than their mid-late 1980s counterparts. Even Rick Springfield and John Mellencamp hold up well today, most of their material sounds like just about anything from 1990. You can easily see the influence from R.E.M., whose entire music history sounds more 1990s than 1980s. It is interesting how in 1986, the music industry was changing rapidly. What you heard in the early 1980s ware more disco, whereas the latter more Alternative. I think that Progressive Rock from bands like Yes clearly define the modernized sound, while others such as Eddie Money (RIP) and The Romantics sounded more 1970s than 1980s. Interesting how many bands sound ahead or behind their time, their success helped or hindered by the industry somewhat but the record label a more common issue.
