The 60-70 miles from Senj to Starigrad-Paklenica is the best stretch of road I've ever ridden that combines twisties, surface, views and sunshine. I've done quite a bit of Croatia but this was the highlight for me. You?

Absolutely agree! It was spectacular. Beautiful sights in all directions. Gorgeous sea colour. Perfect weather. And the curves, wow! Repetitive enough to get a good rhythm but varied enough that it NEVER gets boring! Heaven!!

The formation that flew above you were "Wings of Storm". They won "King Hussein Memorial Sword" for the best overall flying demonstration at Royal International Air Tatoo at Gloucestershire in 2016. And we have socialists to thank for for those lovely buildings in Split.

I spent my 21st Birthday in Split back in 73 (Yeah I know, I know) was Yugoslavia back in the day we had an old VW bus and lived on the beach no problems whatsoever. Those were the days.

I think summer must be one of the most successful exports from the UK. It's the only possible explanation for so many other countries having all the sun and us getting none!!
It is indeed interesting what we go through in certain small towns. Like you, I stopped at a small shop in the Cayman Islands and nothing had a price on it. I suspect that pricing was determined by how much she likes or hates your face lol. Ride safe mate.
Haha! I hate shops with no prices on anything! I was told from an early age that if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it!
Looks very nice! If anyone wants to go there I'd recommend end of May -- it's pleasantly warm and the tourist season is yet to start so roads are empty. We didn't see a single caravan on road 8. (We continued to southern Albania -- highly recommended too. Getting insurance on borders was easy too.)
That's good to know, cheers! I'd really like to go again and head beyond Croatia. I'heard (from a croatian) that Montenegro is quite special.
Montenegro was really good. Durmitor National Park was wonderful and roads above Kotor are worth riding too. Bosnia was great as well -- any country with mountains and roads is worth visiting. :)

Hi, I just came across your vids and I'm loving it. I see You've met Croatian tourism :-). Beautiful country but run by totally incompetent people and that being said, I'm Croatian. Anyhow, that "marbles" like road surface is there to give car drivers with bold tyres better grip. Funny. I'm not even sure that works for cars, but I'm sure that it makes motorcycle riding more unsecure and somewhat dangereous. Just recently I was riding across island of Krk and they "refurbish" all the roundabouts in that way. So, tourists be aware of that! Cheers!

Thank you very much Chop! You're not so shabby yourself!! I took a windows Tablet and 2 external hard drives with me. The volume of footage was insane. By the end, all the HDD's were full and I was slowly filling up the MANY SD cards that I had too! Altogether, just over 2TB of video!!

For some reason my Bike USB charger got fried in Croatia as well. I think it was the ambient heat combined with keeping the camera going on for so long as I couldn’t switch it off anywhere since all the roads were so nice and I didn’t want to loose any good footage. I see you use some kind of on the go camera switching from your left arm. Have you got a video or something e planning your rig? Awesome video as always Andy.
I think that the biggest problem with mine, was that it was a super cheap eBay purchase! Still working on the current rig, still not fully happy with it. Obviously further complicated by getting a new steed!
This wierd part of road, where you can't catch front and rear tire, here is explanation:
The damaged part of the road is leveled on a machine that does this form asphalt. In fact, it is the machine that cuts the road before they put a new layer of asphalt. They do that because in summer truck damage roads and you get "kolotrazi in Croatia" , hot asphalt + many heavy truck and they sink little in road couple centimeter(i think it is road rut on english language). so instead repairing whole road they use machine to level road, and than you get that type of surface. Very scary when I get to that type of road with 110km on my Versys650. Hard to controle your motorbike, and I really hate that type of road surface.

20:35 Intersection right next to my apartment building :). Buildings are ugly, but the flats are big and comfy. Of course, it's the center where you go for the Roman, Medieval, Early Modern etc. architecture.

I dare say so. There's a lot to be seen in the city centre. Most notably of course the 4th-century Roman palace of the Emperor Diocletian.

Mind you, if you dislike touristy areas, that's not a place you want to be during the summer. It especially became unbearable since the damned HBO filmed parts of Game of Thrones there... but I guess I shouldn't complain about booming tourism.
As to the flats... Those sort of ugly socialist apartment buildings have a well-deserved reputation as cheap housing, but old Yugoslavia was perhaps the exception in that regard... at least to some extent. Far better standard of living than the Soviet Bloc (which we weren't a part of). The coast was a tourist destination since the '70s so also did a lot better than some parts of the Yugoslav federation.

Your desciption of the video is a bit confusing: Split is not the capital of Croatia, Zagreb is; however Split is the second biggest city in Croatia an may be called the most important or main city of the Dalmatian coast. Tne video is great and I love riding the former yugoslavian countries. there is so many regions to discover...

I got myself one of those cheapo iXS mesh jackets for summer, because I almost croaked in my leather jacket last summer. Nice thing about leather, though, is that it doesn't smell as bad as textile stuff does.

Yes.. Indeed the Maslenica Bridge was a major objective and point of conflict during the wars of the '90s. It kept everything south of it (like Split, the second-largest city) - from being cut off from everything north of it (like Zagreb, the capital).
