    Have someone, besides me, noticed a little ant on the table under his hand at 8:48?
    Amazing work btw!
    This submarine have a very tragic and heroic story, about the leak in a cooling system of a nuclear reactor, and about the brave crew of it, who prevented global ocean radiation pollution be crearting hand made pipe to decrease the temperature of the reactor. It happend at 4-th of July 1961 in the north Atlantic . As a russian, I really honored, that Zvezda have its model in their catalog!

    Fantastic work! Just goes to show that even basic or flawed models can end up looking great with a bit of effort and the right finish.

    Great job in general and nice job on the weathering, some people tend to overdo that step.

    4:15 black and white photos always make the best reference when it comes to colour schemes

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not sure if you tried to make a joke here , but it is clear that I needed exact reference for values. Where darker/ brighter colors goes... Greys and blacks percentage helps a lot when mixing and masking for proportions.

      Fair enough, but maybe you should mention that in the video so novice builders like myself understand the importance

      ANY source of information is important when trying to make your model as accurate as you can. B&W, color, video, drawings, etc. all come in handy, especially when the subject of your build is not documented well. You'd be surprised just how accurate and colorful a black & white photo of a gray ship actually is!!

    Awesome build on your first submarine,I'm impressed
    How much did it cost?

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you talking about base model kit - it was around 12$, than supplies like paint filler primer and ect. were around 33$ (but again I didn't used them up completely, there is lots of paint left for another builds) :)

    • @henricocronje2821
      @henricocronje2821 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple models yes,I'm getting my model kit tomorrow and it kind of needs a lot of paint for over 35 dollars

    I have never used Tamiya XF-7, so I ask: your submarine bottom looks just right, slightly orange. Is it the pure XF-7 or did you add some other colour?

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's just xf7, but take note I am using grey primer.

    Very well done. Wish I was that good at models. There is one model submarine that I would be willing to pay someone to do for me.

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you have wrong attitude:) I am still quite new to modelling, and this would be considered as "ok" model:) everyone can do the same :)

  • @NorthForkFisherman
    @NorthForkFisherman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely adding one to my collection. I would love to see you do a Mikro Mir Papa or Mike class boat. Since they're a Ukrainian company, maybe their lone (and currently out-of-service) submarine, a Foxtrot-class named "Zaporizhzhia".

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be interesting to build, but these older submarine model kits are way to expensive for what they offer, its about 35$ for old kit containing one sprue and 2 plastic halves :(

    • @NorthForkFisherman
      @NorthForkFisherman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StaticModel True, but these are certainly rare subjects, and if you were considering doing something in, say, 1/35 scale armor, you'd be paying a premium. And a great many subs, particularly those of Russian design can only be found in resin. Which is of course, much more pricy than a $35 styrene one, no?

    • @StaticModel
      @StaticModel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthForkFisherman when talking about model kits price is usually decided by material, part count, complexity of casting, additional decals, accuracy, instructions, customer support options... For 35 bucks I could get really decent Zvezda armor model or some kind of Car in 1/24 scale from Aoshima, which also includes clear parts, rubber parts, decals ect... When submarine model for 35 includes 2 crucked parts of plastic pipe resembling so called submarine, it is expensive because not popular and made in small quantity...

    the propellers are the hardest, no space to actually do proper job and not accurate enough material for perfect match, even bigger problem is if you assemble and then later you paint.. its easier to paint parts, at least small like propellers first and then attach them later on as you assemble them.. i miss such a video, where it would go into details how to attach certain parts and paint them etc..
