Just a quick note - Whilst it looks like I was on softs during these laps, I was infact on the ultrasoft tyre. The yellow band is purely a graphical thing.
This was great Jimmy, would love to see you do one for each track for the rest of the season. Even though this is a sim, you are still a brilliant driver.
This was awesome. I love this format. Only thing I'd love you to add is a outside cinematic view of the lap afterwards with commentary on the lap. That would be awesome to see.
One big difference between game Baku and real life Baku is that in-game trees don't drop shit to the track that decreases car's grip. That's why so many locked up in practice yesterday because there was pollen from trees on track.
I really enjoy this series of beating real lap records. It’s a really fun and cool connection from sim racing to real lap times. It would be cool to see a Le Mans Lap come June. Great stuff jimmy.
Truly enjoyed this video, JimJam! Would love to see you trying to beat the pole laps for this season, permitting the tracks are available on RaceDepartment (It looks like a lot of people have that thought as well!). Fantastic as always - your ability to commentate as you're throwing a car around surprises me every single time I watch your videos
"I Raikkonen'd!"... I was rolling on the floor, that was absolutely nice! 😂 Great lap Gimmy 👍 PS: you're too gentle with the throttle at the exit of the corners(gentle isn't probably the right word...). I mean that you are too cautious in that moment, so you don't really push to the limit (probably this is also the reason of your dissatisfaction, you feel like you haven't really pushed)
This track mod is inaccurate. The last (actual) corner is different now. It was only like that in its first season. 2017 and 2018 that last corner is wider and pointer if you will. I'm pretty sure anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong
Congrats on 80,000 subs THICC BOI :) great channel as always your a legend, love your content and appreciate your hard work for us viewers. Keep it up and wish I was as good as you at the Nordschleife as you are sir.
Man that looks great fun. Yes you can never quite replicate what it's really like, wind etc. but that's how game racing should be. Well done and more of this please.
I had a feeling you would pull a Kimi. Absolutely hilarious that it happened the first time that you knew you were on the money. You performed commentators curse on yourself man. Stellar lap though, I certainly wouldn't be as fast.
Really great lap! I like the concept behind this, and your beating real world times. Be great to see what other disciplines you can come up with, and try and beat! Awesome stuff, as always Jimmy.
I don't think that's the main reason, just the track conditions were different. In the races so far, the cars are faster than last year, execpt Williams ;).
I used to do this 25 years ago... Amiga A500+ didn't look as lush as this though. Would love to try this in VR. Good job. Every week I'd qualify the race then do full race distance after watching the F1.
Max Snellink my best gaming days, racing f1 on the amiga a500 with a Quickshot Pro digital joystick,I was in my twenties back then, glorious days,Murray Walker and James Hunt commentating the F1 back then. Then after that Grand Prix Legends!
I like the idea of watching this type of video after every gp event. I'd love to see more, and hope that you can keep finding mods for the tracks (and maybe for the pole setting cars too)
Come on Jimmy 919 Evo around Le mans sorry I am banging on about it so much but I did see a video of someone doing 2:59 and change....I think you can beat that...
Nice drive Jimmy Maybe a feature using the current cars but at circuits no longer on the calendar. Turkey, Korea, Adelaide, Brands Hatch GP, Estoril, Fuji, Magny-Cours, Kyalami, Imola. How about it!!??
You can pretty easily fix the DRS zone problem. Just go to the drs_zones.ini file (in the "data" folder for the track) and edit "ZONE_0" to the following values: DETECTION=0.195 START=0.224 END=0.328
Facr: on the end or top part of the rear wing there is a tiny vertical piece called a Gurney flap. Named after him because he was the first to use it in a race.
14:14 jimmy stands up take the VR set and on purpose let it fall, then he looks to the camera AND say with an arrogant hip hop style :" Vettel wa..sup...? was sup?"
Wonder if u could just brake boost out out of those slow corners. Like use the brakes while still having the accelerator pressed even if it's a little bit. Because the lag seems to be pretty bad and can def see losing some time because of it.
Defo more time in that lap, you played it safe on 3rd to last corner and paid for it on the lead to final straight. Pretty cool video though, keep it up :)
In my opinion the track has some mistakes. The chicane in T6 seems larger, the T15 is totally different, here you can brake straight but in real life not, and T16 the curve IRL is more "squared". I'm wrong? Good Job Jimmy BTW!
Mike_Regrexion Agree, but this is attributable to the setup, in gaming you can push harder than real life, you can go more extreme and reach higher speed.
Mate I'm envious of you. How on Earth can you do that and talk at the same time. Not only talk but make jokes? I bet if you put your mind to it you could beat (nearly?) anyone over 1 lap. I wish I could drive as well as you. Your mental reserves remind me of Prost and Schumacher.
Can you adjust the track temps and the like on Assetto Corsa? This year's pole was actually almost a second slower compared to last year's due to the colder temps having the Baku GP earlier in 2018. Jimmy was still able to beat 2018's pole lap even without the second DRS zone though so it's still impressive.
You were actually 0.5 seconds up before the last corner on that last lap. It seems some of the kerbs in the first half of the lap are a bit inaccurate. You're able to go 2 wheels over the kerbs on some corners, but they can't be touched in real life. Turn 6 for example is so slippery and the kerb is quite high in real life. It's where Dan Ric lost it in qualifying last year. Anyway, all of what I have said is irrelevant as times can't be comparable. Still love watching these videos though. Especially in VR. They're brilliant!!!!!
This track is quite a bit different from this week end's. The corner where Raikkonen stuffs up his quali (don't know corner number) is much wider in here, and generally faster than it was in real life this year.
Just a quick note - Whilst it looks like I was on softs during these laps, I was infact on the ultrasoft tyre. The yellow band is purely a graphical thing.
the 'i' in the word time in the title is a capital lettter lol
O shit, you're right! Cheers for that :)
Jimmy Broadbent why is the camera slightly of to the left?
Jimmy Broadbent there is a mod you can get to make the tires look proper
You can only record 1 screen, so you see through the left eye.
the nordschliefe looks a bit different
*Nordschleife
Nerdshlaffa
Really? I don't see it.
WELL DONE NÜRBURG
CortMarshal haha
This was great Jimmy, would love to see you do one for each track for the rest of the season.
Even though this is a sim, you are still a brilliant driver.
+1. Good viewing for a Sunday morning
Handsome lad as well. The VR goggles maketh the man _also hideth thyn mug_
this could be a new series call it "beat the pole" ;)
Or "Blow by the Pole"
I beat my pole.
Pole-flogging with Jimbo :D
Beating off the pole, maximum attack!
Yaaaassss
Can you stick giant novelty googly eyes on your VR headset?
That will earn my sub for sure
Muh rift sensors tho
there are tons of infrared-leds on the headset to allow for accurate tracking.
covering them up would probably cause issues.
anime girl eyes
got some 5cm ones on my Oculus, if you buy anything bigger you'll block some of the infra-red gizmos
He should have set the track surface to dusty. It would have been more realistic.
Also it's because the Azerbaijan GP took place a lot earlier than last year, which now is still spring season... last year was near summer
Fortzon that's literally the complete opposite of what David Coulthard said lmao
Talk about hay fever hey 🧐
A computer game is never realistic.
9:47 And I´m like "Oh my god, he did the Räikkönen"
Except Kimi saved it.
Aaron Rowland yeah 2 best sectors and than the error
Yes! This format is awesome. Keep doing it in every single race.
Very impressive, but can you beat Hamilton's luck on Baku GP?
diazzsama yep. Lewis Hamilton's pole lap was a second faster with supersofts on!
If Raikkonen had not missed the turn, he would be almost 1s faster than Vettel's pole !!
This was great thanks Jimmy! Your 5th lap was much smoother. That Castle section is a killer.
I really enjoy this series of beating real lap records. It’s a really fun and cool connection from sim racing to real lap times. It would be cool to see a Le Mans Lap come June. Great stuff jimmy.
Truly enjoyed this video, JimJam! Fantastic as always - your ability to commentate as you're throwing a car around surprises me every single time I watch your videos
I love that you Kimi'd that lap. So satisfying to watch.
"I Raikkonen'd!"... I was rolling on the floor, that was absolutely nice! 😂
Great lap Gimmy 👍
PS: you're too gentle with the throttle at the exit of the corners(gentle isn't probably the right word...). I mean that you are too cautious in that moment, so you don't really push to the limit (probably this is also the reason of your dissatisfaction, you feel like you haven't really pushed)
Would love to see this become a regular series, Jimmy!
This track mod is inaccurate.
The last (actual) corner is different now. It was only like that in its first season.
2017 and 2018 that last corner is wider and pointer if you will.
I'm pretty sure anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong
Laurenz Du Kimis corner is definitely wider irl
yeah its the 2016 version. also has inaccurate elevation
Licensing problems so they can't use the 2018 version.
Congrats on 80,000 subs THICC BOI :) great channel as always your a legend, love your content and appreciate your hard work for us viewers. Keep it up and wish I was as good as you at the Nordschleife as you are sir.

Really great lap! I like the concept behind this, and your beating real world times. Be great to see what other disciplines you can come up with, and try and beat! Awesome stuff, as always Jimmy.
Keep this up to every gp, it´s really fun to watch.
2017 Baku pole was about a second faster
LamboWalker more weight with the halo
I don't think that's the main reason, just the track conditions were different. In the races so far, the cars are faster than last year, execpt Williams ;).
Might have to do with the fact that Baku took place in late June, in warmer temperatures
The track today was very windy and dusty. last year the conditions were perfect. Generally 2018 cars are faster than 2017
Today it was very windy and cloudy in Baku, and probably more dusty than last year.
I used to do this 25 years ago... Amiga A500+ didn't look as lush as this though. Would love to try this in VR. Good job. Every week I'd qualify the race then do full race distance after watching the F1.
Java Monsoon so much fun. One day I'll get a rig and VR but sooner spend the cash on an actual go kart.
Max Snellink my best gaming days, racing f1 on the amiga a500 with a Quickshot Pro digital joystick,I was in my twenties back then, glorious days,Murray Walker and James Hunt commentating the F1 back then.
Then after that Grand Prix Legends!
Great video! Keep this hot laps coming, it would be nice to see you trying to beat every pole time for the rest of the season :D
How fast can i run the nordschliefe by jimmy broadbent?
Wow, how you found 3 tenths in that lap is amazing. My PB so far is a 1:41;480, so I still have .340 seconds to chase :/ Really good job Jimmy! :)
Spent quite a while looking for an AC version of Baku for a while. Thanks Jommer
This is a great compliment to watching Sky F1....keep it up :)
Nice to see you fully concentrating, as sure Vettel was not talking through his pole lap😉
I realy enjoy the concept. Especialy after hving just seen the qualy results. More like this please :)
that Kimi moment was the same! Well with the little diference that he was able to hold it and didnt crashed :D
LOL...thats funny how you get more information about a track from a video game player than from a real race car driver. Well done!
I want to see that
Im amazed that they got this sim that close to real racing in terms of lap times. Its extremely accurate.
You should do this for the rest of the season, subscribed!
I noticed that the corner, where kimi bottled his lap, was a bit different
Muhamad Armando it's so so much different, rest of the track is great bar that one corner, you are correct
This serves as a great learn the track guide, great video!
Please do this for every GP! Even during other seasons, because the cars will be different, so it'll never get boring
love it, please do it for the rest of the pole laps mate!
Wow that is amazing how fast you can learn a track and understand your mistakes
Blimming excellent..... pilot accepted, season booked
Well done Jimmer ! Gotta try by myself :)
Well done , thumbs up
13:10 Now that's a delicious racing line!
Great lap m8. Its just that you didnt have the same conditions as they did, so thats why you beat the pole time ;)
Great video!! When you do these do you have any assists turned on?
I love those videos .Hope there will be more.
nice! can't wait for more of this :)
Love these types of videos.
I'm glad to see Jimmy has somehow managed to retain what little is left of his sanity after that stream yesterday.
I saw people making insane 1:38 lap time with Formula Hybrid...my personal time 1:40.2 using SS "this track is amazing"!!!!! cheer dude!
Nice drive Jimmy
Maybe a feature using the current cars but at circuits no longer on the calendar. Turkey, Korea, Adelaide, Brands Hatch GP, Estoril, Fuji, Magny-Cours, Kyalami, Imola. How about it!!??
Nice time, 1:41.414 the number of Alonso 14 hehe cheers from Spain. I love ur videos
Yeah, you're going to be doing this for every race haha x
You can pretty easily fix the DRS zone problem. Just go to the drs_zones.ini file (in the "data" folder for the track) and edit "ZONE_0" to the following values:
DETECTION=0.195
START=0.224
END=0.328
"Lap 3 - Kimi" oh that got a laugh out of me.
Facr: on the end or top part of the rear wing there is a tiny vertical piece called a Gurney flap. Named after him because he was the first to use it in a race.
"Don't raikonnen Jimmy"-Jimmy a long lime ago. History repeats itself.
It was a brilliant day of racing today at baku!!!
14:14 jimmy stands up take the VR set and on purpose let it fall, then he looks to the camera AND say with an arrogant hip hop style :" Vettel wa..sup...? was sup?"
What a great lap that WAS
Interesting new content format
This is a great video idea, you should definitely do this at more races!
You should make this a series. Seems fun to me
Really really liking these videos bro
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Good run Jimmy, cheers, Be Safe;-).
Wonder if u could just brake boost out out of those slow corners. Like use the brakes while still having the accelerator pressed even if it's a little bit. Because the lag seems to be pretty bad and can def see losing some time because of it.
Speaking for everyone with ocd, please center your headset before you start. The center support for the halo is sooooo far to the right
this cam is great...so real
Loving the TH-cam f1 presence
Almost 2K likes... awesome laps!
Have never actually seen an onboard lap of this track before this. Looks really slow in the corners but I'd imagine it's pretty fun to drive honestly.
I wsh Codemasters made same steering wheel display as is in this one... Anyway, great effort, great driving as always :)
grande laboro, grande macchina
Defo more time in that lap, you played it safe on 3rd to last corner and paid for it on the lead to final straight. Pretty cool video though, keep it up :)
Well Done Jimmers
Watching this was more exciting than watching the real thing
I'd love to see you do comparisons between the F1/GT cars and regular performance cars (road legal)
I would love to see an F1 challenge where you try and beat pole laps with a sequential gear lever instead of the paddles.
In my opinion the track has some mistakes. The chicane in T6 seems larger, the T15 is totally different, here you can brake straight but in real life not, and T16 the curve IRL is more "squared". I'm wrong?
Good Job Jimmy BTW!
Jacopo Cadeddu
Yes, definitely. All the things you mentioned are correct. I felt the same when I was watching the video.
Too much speed in the straight too...during the Q3 they reach 335Km/h , not 350km/h. Reaching 350 means sacrifice the car in the others sectors
Mike_Regrexion Agree, but this is attributable to the setup, in gaming you can push harder than real life, you can go more extreme and reach higher speed.
Jacopo Cadeddu I could be wrong, but I think this mod is based of the 2016 layout, which was slightly different I think.
And the DRS zones seem to be inaccurate
Nice driving 👍
feel like i was in the car with you. intense
Mate I'm envious of you. How on Earth can you do that and talk at the same time. Not only talk but make jokes? I bet if you put your mind to it you could beat (nearly?)
anyone over 1 lap. I wish I could drive as well as you. Your mental reserves remind me of Prost and Schumacher.
Mate that’s some sick driving 😅😅
Get wrecked Vettel now that's an Hashtag😂 thanks jimmy. And yes every track from now on if possible please.
That was awesome 👏👏👏👏
Share the setup please... could be a small contest ;)
Please Jimmy, make a "tutorial" video on how to setup the car!
i wonder why he doesn't show us the changes he makes
Banaboy Exactly what i thought
You were actually 0.5 seconds up before the last corner on that last lap. It seems some of the kerbs in the first half of the lap are a bit inaccurate. You're able to go 2 wheels over the kerbs on some corners, but they can't be touched in real life. Turn 6 for example is so slippery and the kerb is quite high in real life. It's where Dan Ric lost it in qualifying last year.
Anyway, all of what I have said is irrelevant as times can't be comparable. Still love watching these videos though. Especially in VR. They're brilliant!!!!!
"oh no! I raikkonened" best part xD
love this video make it a series or summn
Please make this a series and do it for every f1 gp!
This track is quite a bit different from this week end's.
The corner where Raikkonen stuffs up his quali (don't know corner number) is much wider in here, and generally faster than it was in real life this year.
Keep it up love your videos.
guess we know who's gonna be ferrari's 2nd driver once kimi retires
well done jimmy, go for lewis's lap (1.40.593) and get the all time record of baku :D
