It was nba draft of Detroit pistons cazzie Russell or Dave bing I think ny knick took cazzie Russell and detroit pistons got lucky with dave bing. He was an all star basketball players late 1960s /early 1970s
During the off-season He went to college and worked in a bank. He established successful Bing steel then became Detroit mayor. No washed up former athlete just a smart skilled man who did the best he could with what he had with great effect without today's pride and ego. Dave Bing is the correct role model for those who want to go high in any field.
I remember when Bing led the NBA in scoring in his 2nd season at 27.0 ppg. He could shoot the jumper and was so fast. What a great combination. But only $15,000/year as a rookie?! Wow. Things have changed.
what I like about these Basketballography videos is the players intelligent approach not only to the game but to life. Instead of splurging his money on clothes and jewellery and god knows what else, he saved up, bought a steel factory. I admire this man, as a basketball history fan I heard about him, he was before my time, but never knew any inside on him. Thats a real role model, not that egoistic, narcissistic asshole Diva. This is why I like watching very old games. Players were very intelligent and for most part humble. Fck today's NBA
I grew up in the sixties, and a NBA basketball fanatic. I remember Dave Bing quite well, as I was in Chicago the year the Bulls became a franchise in 1966, so I remeber those Bulls vs Pistons games. I also remember Jimmy Walker who was Dave Bings backcourt mate, who happens to be the father of Jalen Rose💯👍
As a Michiganian (sic),I unfortunately didn't get a chance to see much of my Pistons. I left michigan at @ 7 yrs. Old. I did hear, and periodically see the Pistons on TV, cheering for Mr. Bing, and Lanier.
It's inspiring that guys like Bing and Junior Bridgeman who didn't make a ton of money by today's NBA standards, are two of the richest ex players in history; even surpassing guys who made millions playing the game...
6:20 ff "decent money" but "still it wasn't a lot of money" and "I needed to work in the off season" The median income in the US in 1968 was $7700.00. In Bing's second season he states he earned about $30,000.00. How is 4 times the median income not a 'lot of money' and what does a family of 4 in Detroit need a secondary income to provide for? Please, someone help me understand this plight of poverty.

it's funny .. he mentions early on that they lacked good forwards in Detroit , later he tells of the cutting of forward Don Adams in 1975 . Adams was a career .402 shooter and one of the worst forwards of his day - Bing had a problem with this.

❤️ Dave Bing metro Detroit legends
My favorite player as a kid. I wore number 21 because of him. Class and dignity personified.

Legendary college & nba basketball career
What a player and man. Great life story. A fabulous human being.
What a player, truly one of the all time greats, what a combo, him and big Bob Lanier!
Dynamic duo in Detroit in the early 1970s
@@lloydkline3265 Lanier was a Willis Reed clone 6-11 280 with a left hand.
This was great to hear always one of my favorite when I was a kid
Dave Bing and Elgin Baylor will always be my favorites of All time and two career threatening eye injuries wow!!!
Exactly
Incredibly Bing achieved all-star status having distorted vision all the while playing in the NBA!
He aeems like a humble man
Very underrated player!

This is why I love TH-cam 🇺🇸
Basketball players were so smooth and graceful back then. Not so today.

I want to design some uniforms for the Wildcats but i want to design the style they wore years ago

TO's weren't so scrutinized back then. Dr J, Pistol Pete, Charlie Scott and George McGinnis all had many TO's as well.

upon further investigation this guy was a cancer - every where he goes they lose.
I have Dave bings my team card on nba 2k 18
Unlike most star players, he didn't have a pet move. Didn't matter...
Dave bjng basically had one eye after injuries, he was an all star late 1960s/early 1970s
I thought the forwards were chet Walker an Bob love
Walker and Love were with the Bulls.
They were Chicago Bulls, if I'm not mistaken.
Won him on NBA2k21 offline triple threat.
Should have done more points and assists if he wasn't injured during his career
Eye problems, one eye
good player bad mayor bad business man
