My absolute favorite rendition of the black swan pas de deux. I have never seen it done better. The way she attacks the steps is perfectly in character and unparalleled
What a strong technician Chenchikova was - she is a superb, authoratative Odile! And it's wonderful to see Konstantin Zaklinsky - there is so little footage of him dancing on YT and he was an exemplary partner and dancer/actor (as well as being very handsome!) Great post - thank you!
Chenchikova was one of the greatest dancers, but I think she was plagued with injuries right after this performance. As spectacular as this "black swan" pas is (and it IS), it was the white swan from Act 2 that just KILLED you. It was perfection. Beyond technique, it was out of this world. Beyond description with words. It should be available somewhere in a better print, since it was broadcast in the USA on network PBS. Everyone had a VCR by then.
I saw this, and someone made a vhs copy for me. I've seen tons of great Swan Lakes. But this pas deux is simply wonderful!!! I showed it to some jazz/hip hop students who had been talked into taking ballet by their jazz/hip hop teacher, to develop their strength and flexibility. They were reluctantly taking ballet until I showed them this pas de deux. They wanted to see it again, saying "They make it look so easy!." After that, they worked very hard in the ballet class, so great to see their progress!

Thank you! Any idea what year this was filmed?
The performance was filmed at Wolf Trap, 1986.
Surpisingly enough, but OCH looks here like an american style ballerina.

This performance was filmed in 1986 at Wolf Trap.
