    I am amazed at how you can show the beauty & despair of a place within a few minutes. Such a terrible loss to have this be torn down and discarded.

      Thank you so much! It was difficult to convey the atmosphere in this one, and we ended up retooling the video and our website entry a few times until we were happy.

    Two hundred acres sold for $5 MILLION or $25,000/acre. SWEEET DEAL!!!

      Not such a sweet deal to those who valued the hospital and the adaptive reuse of the property 💔

      I totally agree! I was attempting to point out that the tax payer got "ripped off."

      Thank you for saying so! It means a lot reading a comment like this because this particular video took us longer than usual to be happy with. We retooled it several times until we felt the atmosphere was conveyed properly.

    Even the historic main building will be demolished? So much for the historic Committee.

      Saving the admin would have been a great compromise. Sad to see it all coming down, it's not often we see a building being demolished that still has polished floors.

      That hospital and grounds are/were beautiful. Historic and museum like.
      I grew up near Greystone.
      Now gone those institutions, that design, will not be back.

    This is really sad it just makes me wont to break down into tears…this building could have been perfectly used for another state hospital 💔

      The demolition of the Allentown State Hospital was a complete waste of not only history and beautiful architecture, but a valuable resource that the city could have truly utilized.

    • @mikesrobloxeditsroadto1006
      @mikesrobloxeditsroadto1006 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Facts it was a true waste of history,they should have been SMART and kept it they could use it again as a mental hospital like the building was completely beautiful and it was not Abandoned for long the doors closed in 2010 it was a perfect building it’s just so sad that they had to demolish it like I just love that state hospital I miss the building so bad 💔

    I loved how you captured the rooms filled with sunlight it looked like the electricity was on and I remember that mural hallway excellent video I can't believe it's gone did you see the bowling alley? Pretty cool

    • @AntiquityEchoes
      @AntiquityEchoes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! There was actually quite a bit of electrical lighting still on when we went. Unfortunately we did miss the bowling alley, but we still feel lucky to have seen what we did.

    The buildings are in such condition, it would be a waste to demolish them. They would make an excellent college Campus!

    • @AntiquityEchoes
      @AntiquityEchoes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, it was in phenomenal condition, and a campus would have actually been an interesting revitalization. Not the first time a former hospital would have been repurposed for such a use.

    I think that sadly, no matter what, this building was doomed to demolition. It was more than anybody wants to spend to repair it. If it was refurbished the upkeep would eventually become too much, and it would repeat this cycle again. It could not be used as a mental hospital due to deinstituitionalization. Lastly, it would need (more than likely) a new foundation, which is a ton of money and labor that nobody would want to go through. But I don't support demolition of it.

    Myself and my wife work there I was there 3 years to my wife work there for 22 years that was the most beautiful state hospital in the state marbled Hall's marble staircase has a marble staircase that was a spiral staircase didn't show that in the movie there was a guy that wanted to buy that for ten million dollars and turn it into Condominiums with 8 wards you could have made 16 condos it could have used the emissions building they could have housed 70 patients in that building yet the state wants to get out of the mental health business but now can use later they're talking about Mental Health so they said it cost like 15 20 million dollars a teardown all them buildings then they turn around and sell the bear property for five and a half million so there you go Pennsylvania the state spending your tax dollars shouldn't you be making money on a property it's just so sad

    • @AntiquityEchoes
      @AntiquityEchoes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for sharing! We agree - The wasted potential of the old hospital is hard to even put into words. It was gut-wrenching to watch them plow through the marbled lobby on the day the admin fell.
