I always felt this song was probably the best showcase of Alex Lifeson's skills that exists. He plays with such emotion at one moment, then shreds the hell out his guitar the next bar. Such talent!
This song was based a a series of nightmares that Alex Lifeson had. This was an excellent performance but I would suggest watching the official music video for this. The beginning is much different. Cheers
😂 But so fun to watch live. Saw Time Machine Tour at Madison Square Garden! 🤗 When Neil dropped the beat the crowd went crazy. 😒 Then we "sang along", which is not unusual to do to Rush Instrumentals. 😁🐰
What is particularly remarkable when you watch their live videos is how they seem to be having fun playing together. A great band, and great guys. No wonder they have such a popularity in Canada, but not only
This virtuoso trio were absolutely so confident in their fans and there own music they would actually spoof the intro to this masterpiece... Total ballers!!
Imagine back to 1978, picking this up from the record shop, going home and putting the album on the turntable. Like all the Rush albums, I played it until the grooves wore out. I thought 2112 was a masterpiece, then Cygnux X-1, book II played. And to finish the album, La Villa. I'm so glad that younger folks are appreciating what true artists all the members of Rush are. There will never be a band like them again.
Not sure if you've listened to Cygnus X-1 book II on Hemispheres. Alex Lifeson invented his signature F Sharp with added 4th and flat 7 chord on that recording
That guitar solo. The composition of it, the phrasing and the buildup. Masterpiece. Hearing this song is what made me want to play guitar. 40 years later, still playing. Still giggin' Thanks Rush !
That crowd noise is absolutely legitimate. Some of the loudest crowds I have ever encountered were Arrowhead for the Chiefs, and Rush concerts. Funny you mention "how do they remember all those notes." If you watch the documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage," you'll get a kick out of what you noted. It is a very well done documentary, and very informative. You seem like a "documentary" kind of dude, so it's worth a watch for sure.
It may have been there job, but they really did seem like they had a ton of fun on stage every time I saw them. Great sense of humor, amazing talent, and so humble. Such a loss to the *world* that there will never be a new Rush song...
Hey man I saw your mind blown maybe six or seven times in that one song. The most amazing thing to me, although I am a lifelong Rush fan, is that these guys were closing in on 60 when this was recorded. A lifelong musical Journey, and the soundtrack of my life. Great reaction, i sincerely enjoyed watching you find this. Peace to you and your family
😍 This had Madison Square Garden roaring! 🤗 Another song we "sing along with" 😂 at least at MSG we did! 🤔 Think my 1st time might have been Giant Stadium or Nassau Coliseum? 🤦🏿♀️ I'm so old! 😏🐰
You've earned a sub and 👍 To really feel Alex Lifeson and his nightmarish creation of La Villa Strangiato watch the older version Exit Stage Left tour. His guitar changes from a Spanish guitar acoustic sound to a devilish electric. Since I'm new and don't know all of your catalog on RUSH yet here's some of my favorites. Spirit of Radio, Working Man, 2112, Fly by Night, Subdivision, Red Barchetta, Jacob's Ladder, Cyrus (all 3 parts), Twilight Zone, Closer to the Heart, Tom Sawyer (obviously their most well known song), Roll the Bones, Limelight, Camera's eye, the Trees, Necromancer, By-Tor and Snow Dog, Xanadu, and on and on. Enjoy the rabbit hole of 40+years.
This is maybe my favorite performance of LVS… at least partially because the video so clearly shows Alex playing his pedals, and SO many people tend to want to give all of that to Geddy. 😂 I might enjoy the R30 version more because it has one of Alex’ rants, and he cracks up Geddy and Neil, but for a straight playthrough, this is the one for me. 👍🏻
I'm loving your Rush reactions! You recognize greatness - definitely a masterclass performance. The Holy Trinity have many songs that paint visions in your head through lyrics and sound. One of the best examples is the 1981 song Red Barchetta from their Moving Pictures album. If you know anything about or can envision a drive in the countryside, this is your song. Do the lyric version so the fullness of the song can really sink in. Trust me when I say you'll like it and so will all of us. Cheers
Actually, my best suggestion is to listen to (or, better still, react to) the studio version of this song from the album "Hemispheres." It is pure genius. and you can better hear the technical skills and the incredible music that they created. Also on Hemispheres is the song "The Trees." I think you'll enjoy that, too.
This is one of their earliest instrumentals and let’s them all flex their skills. Check out the studio version for you own gratification sometime. I think you’re ready for 2112 when you have the time. Just do it with lyrics so you can follow the cool sci-fi story. You f you want something shorter, try Red Barchetta. Cheers!
Hey man long time lurker, first time commenter. Love your reactions! Would love to see you react to more prog, more Yes and Genesis and give King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Nektar, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Eloy, Renaissance etc. a try. I think you would like them all. If you wouldn't mind though, start with Relayer by Yes. It is another 20 minute epic along the same lines as close to the edge!
This is why this band did not need to be in the top radio air play like Drake , Justin B , so on , This band is one of the greatest live concert bands around with out much radio airplay , A three hour rockin concert
You have a genuine ear for great music. It is rare. I love your reviews but I suggest getting a hot girl to sit next to you. There are too few of us to truly appreciate your insight alone, some eye candy would go a long way with John Q Public.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again...
Just 3 Guys in their late 50's showing today's youth how its done !!!
Fact! And Band Maid took notes...😁
Only Rush could write an instrumental so well... That nobody notices that there are no words...
Dude, you UNDERSTAND Rush! The critics sure didn't back in the 70's. But then, fuck them. LOL. Great reaction. You got a good vibe, bro.
Agreed :) Peace!
I bought this album in 1980 and Rush was hot in Montana.
I always felt this song was probably the best showcase of Alex Lifeson's skills that exists. He plays with such emotion at one moment, then shreds the hell out his guitar the next bar. Such talent!
Rush fan here. Great show by Alex but even though I do not listen to first album a lot - that is the best of Alex and so is his solo album victor.
Try Workingman live in Cleveland , Alex plays his mind out on parts of the guitar that others say should be impossible
Rush really is one of a kind...a special species for sure! Beautiful 👍💔👏
This song was based a a series of nightmares that Alex Lifeson had. This was an excellent performance but I would suggest watching the official music video for this. The beginning is much different. Cheers

The beginning is different, but I love this version the most. They were so relaxed and having so much fun.
@@wadesworld6250 I love the one from Rio where Alex has one of rants. Too funny! I love seeing them having fun on stage.
Even with Rush's epic level talent, it took them weeks of rehearsing to be able to play this song all the way through.
What is particularly remarkable when you watch their live videos is how they seem to be having fun playing together. A great band, and great guys. No wonder they have such a popularity in Canada, but not only

Three men and a wall of sound! Amazing!
That guitar solo. The composition of it, the phrasing and the buildup. Masterpiece.
Hearing this song is what made me want to play guitar.
40 years later, still playing. Still giggin' Thanks Rush !

Watched so many of Popenyco reactions, loved this one especially. Distant Early Warning Next RUSH REACTION!
Rush concerts where "Air Drumming" is not only allowed But Encouraged. :)
Saw this tour in Vancouver. Can't believe it has been a decade.
"This band is diff er ent!!!"
Perfect!
It may have been there job, but they really did seem like they had a ton of fun on stage every time I saw them. Great sense of humor, amazing talent, and so humble. Such a loss to the *world* that there will never be a new Rush song...
While other bands were learning to play checkers, Rush was playing Chess.
😂 you picked the tour where they opened with the Polka Version! 👏 Thanks again for giving it a Spin!!
Simply the best.
The greatest instrumental ever written... love your RUSH Reactions...
Top level musicians are a treat
Just a beautiful piece of music.

"A lifelong musical Journey, and the soundtrack of my life" - Feel the same way...and it's a soundtrack that has ended too soon.
3 of the best at their position. A guaranteed all star line up. An all star reaction. Thanks bro!
RUSH-there is no substitute!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Incredible Band! It's bad ass Rock! Happy Birthday Geddy!
Look at this guys face with the polka beginning lol
This is quite possibly my favorite Rush song ♥️🔥✨♥️ Maybe Red Barchetta or YYZ!! Damn I just love them all 😂😂
Thanks Pope. FYI...the guys in Rush were/are big Yes fans. They inducted Yes into the Rock n Roll hall of fame. Maybe you can dive back into Yes.
4:27 that was both the most satisfying bend, and most satisfying pinch harmonic I’ve ever heard
Stunning performance but then again when did they ever not give one they were the greatest there is no question
Dude you are witnessing one of the best bands ever.... Love seeing young people reacting to Rush... You hooked, so was I at 15..
Cheers..
😍 This had Madison Square Garden roaring! 🤗 Another song we "sing along with" 😂 at least at MSG we did! 🤔 Think my 1st time might have been Giant Stadium or Nassau Coliseum? 🤦🏿♀️ I'm so old! 😏🐰
They are The Kings of the transitions!!
RUSH=LEGENDS!!

Love the reaction! You definitely seem to "get" RUSH; the energy, musicianship, precision, and comradery that lasted for over 40 years! ☮☮☮
They just rock this song!! Enough said!! God Bless… from Texas!!
Yep, Pope, you really GET Rush!
Great to see you really enjoy another Masterclass.

Rush... #$@$@#$@ amazing,
The 3 Man Band that played like 300.
I was at this show on the floor.

...crazy house...
The polka intro!!! I wonder? Did neil really die or did he do the Elvis tupac Michael get out of dodge thing?
RUSH-THE TREES

More prog reactions coming up 🔥 thanks for being apart of the adventure 🤟🏿
You got a subscribe from me. Any Rush fan is a friend of mine!
Look up the word tight in the dictionary and you will see a picture of them onstage.
Air drummers unite !
This is why this band did not need to be in the top radio air play like Drake , Justin B , so on , This band is one of the greatest live concert bands around with out much radio airplay , A three hour rockin concert
I HIGHLY suggest the Exit Stage Left version instead, it's even better!
Yes, it really is!
🙋🏿♀️ I 2nd that.... Cause early 20 something Rush 😍 ..... 🤗 🐰
I agree Lerxt absolutely shreds on that version! A total face melt!
Do yourself a favor and play rush 2112 album in full, it’s incredible!
check out the studio version to be amazed
🙌
You just got rushed brother! Best live instrumental ever! Simple! Now you gotta do working man live, ok?
th-cam.com/video/Qarw1_-5AF4/w-d-xo.html
@@POPE. heck out also the Rush best live intro! Trust me on this one!👍
BUD CHECK OUT THERE VERSION FROM (rush in rio) MIND BLOWN
check out the original video to that same song , they are in their 20 's at the time.
♥

For drummers you are good if you can nail YYZ but you are a legend if you can nail La villa strangiato
The name is in French. I do believe.
EXPERTS! How to close a show.
…. and there’s only 3 of them 😀😀
🇨🇦🔥
Jimmy page who? Alex just as good, he's just underrated..
Cheers...
As good as that was the original (Official Music Video) is better.
Not the best version. You really ought to check out the original official video
