The man whom I bought the book from unfortunately passed away in a bicycle accident this week. He and his bookstore were always a place of refuge and curiosity for the people of Grand Rapids. I wouldn’t have been able to make this video without his help. If this video inspires you to do so, please visit a local (antique) book store nearby and support their work in his honor.

Welcome to the Windy City! You'll have no shortage of trains to ride here!

Best wishes in Chicago. It's my favorite city in America, and I get there whenever I can. Maybe I'll see you around.

Another informative & interesting upload Thom - hard to believe 4 years have already gone by. I do like the fact that America preserves its history so well - transport & rail museums abound everywhere. Moving to Chicago what were you thinking? I recall my first trip to Chicago in the middle of Winter, and I quickly realized how it got its name. We did a tour & it went past Muhammad Ali's Summer Residence - note he only stayed in Chicago in Summer. My first purchase upon arrival (having flown in from San Francisco)was a goose-down-lined parka/coat - I looked like the Michelin Man when wearing it, but it sure kept me warm- Oh well, the things we do for love - I'm sure Lindsey will enjoy the shopping as much as you will enjoy the trains! All the best in your new location (good luck when Winter comes around LOL) - might be a good time to catch Amtraks long-distance trains south or southwest!

You picked up a book about the Street cars of GR but gave no author or year. Can you perhaps provide that key information? I have a story about that street car system you may not have ever heard.

Instead of a streetcar out to GRF Airport, I usually think for my imaginary GR maps one could use the CSX tracks that go right by it, you'd only have to build a small spur into the airport itself.

Ive thought of that too. GR has so many little used freight tracks you could easily build a pretty extensive metro network.

Hi Thom, what did you study in Grand Rapids?

      International Relations

@@Thom-TRA probably because it sounds similar to 'international train stations' 😂
