So apparently, when reactor was installed it didn't install audio (wav). Idk which box I checked in the reactor list, but I have the option now! Time to get back to the video!! 😁
For anyone having trouble with the audio file, you may need to convert it to 16bit using an online tool. I used online-convert, and it finally worked. Thank you so much for this tutorial Jason! 👍🏽

One more thing for Mac users!!! If Converting your MP3 to WAV with an online program doesn't work or the WAV you have isn't working after conversion just render and export the audio from Davinci as a WAV/16 bit and then import into the designated area. The error for unsupported file should go away and the WAV will work.
What you have in the thumbnail, the blue lines thing is a visualizer, but you didn't do this. This is just syncing animation to audio. Which I already know how to do. I clicked on this video because of the words "audio visualizer" and the visualizer in the thumbnail.
I came back to this video after not being able to make it work. I had not used it in a while so I followed the steps from the beginning again and it turns out I needed to update it! So, an extra piece of advice to anyone else watching: make sure you check if you need updates, especially if you have a new version of Resolve or it's been a while since you last used it. It was highlighted in blue for me in the Fusion Reactor window at around 2:27.

Hi Jason thanks for the excellent video showing a simple "procedure" for getting an image animated to the "beat" of the music. I was able to create a basic project using the procedure in minutes, and is running fine -- "almost". I have a .wav file (I needed to convert into 16 bit PCM) that is 38 MB (less than the 50 MB limit) and is about 3 minutes long (is there a limit to the length?). The fusion clip length matches the length of the audio. But animation stops after a minute and few seconds, and the image does not render afterwards. Fyi I am modifying the image size with the Audio - and I have set the minimum size and max size, so the image animates without vanishing and remains within the visible area. Any tips? Also is there a way to pick other parameters from the .wav file [using expressions?] like Pitch (or surrogates of it), Volume/Energy etc to animate other aspects of the image? Is there a cheat sheet or guide to using the Suckless Audio Component? Sorry for the long note...but they are related. Sri.
Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! There's no cheat sheet for Suck less that I know of. I'd just google it to find out more info. I'm not sure if you can use other parameters from the wave. I don't use that tool a ton so I don't know the ins and outs of it all. But maybe try the website I linked to for the fusion reactor and search in the forums a bit. 😁
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the prompt reply. Any tips for why the visualization stops after a minute and few seconds?? rather than the full length of the audio? Fusion Composition is full length. Hi! It’s possible that things are a little different now, I made the video long time ago. I haven’t use this feature in long time so it may look a little different. 🤔 thank you for checking out the video!
Hi! My background is easy. I used a set of GoVee Strip lights along the ceiling and I have 2 RGB LED flood Lights by Novastella on the floor shining up on the background. You can use a wall or a background like i have now in my recent videos. I've got videos on both LED lights if you are interested.
Amazing video. One question, Is there a way to animate an image so it only goes up and down? When I click on the transform node and in inspector, it either moves the size like in this video. It seems to want to do both X and Y when I only want it to do Y. I hope that makes sense ha
Hi, thanks! Off the top of my head I’m not sure. I’d just mess with the settings in fusion and see what you can get. Sorry I don’t have a specific answer for ya. Thanks for watching!
Also thank u so much. I got my audio in and couldn't figure out how to make it look stable until you mentioned that amplitude offset of the reactor effect. Awesome!!!!
Thanks for this. So when linking the Wav file in the Fusion tab can't you just specify the same Wav file that is already imported in your current project? I found my project location but all that's in there is a Project.db file (where i thought the imported audio file would be located).
You're welcome! You actually have to find the file on your computer. Even though it is in your DaVinci Resolve project, Resolve doesn't actually copy or move any files. It just links to them and stores the link.
Any chance there is a Premiere type anamate to Sequance (TimeLine) where you place narkers with the M key to the beat and then it places your clips or stills starting at each marker abd ending at the following or next Marker ? Love your stuff just sometimes difficult to follow for me. I'm sure there others that will find it OK.
Unfortunately they don’t have the same type of animate to sequence like Premier does. I’ve been searching for that forever and have not found an equivalent in DaVinci Resolve. It would be really awesome if they came up with a way to do that in DaVinci Resolve.
Thanks! I image you can do it the same way if you had an animated video of a wave form. Or even a static video, you can animate it this way. Thanks for watching!
You got it! I've also tried this technique with some of the preset effects that are in fusion. All you have to do is add one of the effects, then add in a transform node before connecting into the media out, and follow the same steps I did in this video for the Transform node. It works pretty good. 👍
Is there a way to animate the music just to a certain frequency of it? Bass (low frequencies) for example? I use a plugin for After Effects which works pretty good!
I’m not sure who would know. You might try searching the forums where you download the reactor. Or I’d just do some Google searches and see what you can find.
Hey, thanks for the video. I followed the directions as you did them and everything went well. The only problem is my icon stops moving mid-song. I'm not entirely sure how to search to find the problem.
It doesn't work even though my file is a wav file. It just highlights the transform and mediaout red. Please someone help edit: I found out the WAV file must be 16 bit. I had 32 bit float. My wav file had the best quality you can get. edit2: It works now but the picture just dissappears in the middle of the song. This visualizer is fucking bad edit3: Nevermind Im just dumb. The Global in/out limit was reduced. Still that's not my fault. Resolve is still a tricky beast.
It's very tricky :D if you get problems not too far into the project try to start from the beginning or trouble shoot and you'll find your way. I had the in/out thing at the beginning when I started, I think it had to do with editing in fusion and then shortening the clip in timeline or the oppositie, something like that, just work structured and it will work out :)
Hi! I'm having problems with it finding my WAV file, for it to react to it. It is a WAV file, just, the browser thing, doesn't find it. I also tried dragging and dropping the WAV file directly in the box, and it recognized it, but didn't react or anything, just sat still.
Hey! Sorry for the bother xT but I figured it out. I read a old comment, that had the same issue, and the Audacity thing, and it work! xD It also works for videos as well!
Hi great video. I wanted to ask, how do I carry the visualizer across many different pictures (I'm making a lyrics video) so I don't have to animate the visualizer 60 times?
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the swift reply! I solved the problem by making the background of the visualizer transparent and then expanding the fusion clip over the main footage.

I followed the instructions and made sure the wave file is 16bit. However nothing seems to work. I am using version 16.2.5 could that be the problem in my case?
I’ve been struggling with this as well. I heard someone say that they had to export a wav file out of Audacity to get it to work. My wav files from Logic don’t seem to work but, certain ones that I downloaded from the internet do.
Hello! I'm an amateur studying video effects and I have a question Is there any way to make 'light' react to my audio? I use pictures (jpeg image files) as the background and I want them to shine in time with the music It would mean a lot to me if you give me a reply! Thank u :)
Hi! Off the top of my head, I'm not sure, but You can probably use Fusion with Light rays and build an effect that uses the same technique in this video to make the lights react to the music. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks! Yes, I use my MacBook Pro for all my editing/screen recording/audio recording. It's a 2015 MacBook Pro, 2.8 GHZ Quad-Core i7, 16 GB Ram, Intel Iris Pro 1536 for graphics. It works good for the most part, but I don't do a lot of fusion with it. Not enough specs to be efficient. Maybe get a newer one when Apple releases 16" MBPs with their new chips next year. Or I was debating building a windows machine for video editing, but I just like the mac system so much better. 😁 Tough Decisions! haha.
Thanks for this dude! Been using this for a while for my beat videos. But I am getting an issue now after creating the transform node -> right clicking size and selecting audio wav. I get a red text in the inspector tab which says "Please load WAVE file". And so I proceed as usual and upload my .wav file . Then I get this error message "special characters in filename", and the animation is not working. Been trying to change the name of both the .png that I am trying to animate and the track itself (not using any hyphens or weird characters) but I still get the same error message. Does someone know what might be the issue here? Thanks in advance!

I will try to find if the developers have placed API details and/or LUA source code in some GitHub. May be some other users have already traveled the path?
Hi. I was following the tutorial but I don’t see audio (wav) when i right click (size) and then click (modify with)???
Great video btw :)
Hi! It’s possible that things are a little different now, I made the video long time ago. I haven’t use this feature in long time so it may look a little different. 🤔 thank you for checking out the video!
Did you restart resolve after installing the .lua? It worked for me. P.S.: It was at the bottom of the options, not the top

@@JasonYadlovski Perhaps you can show us more of those interesting Reactor applications.
if I add the same fusion clip to another song would it react according to that song or in another way? btw awesome video!!!
If you use that clip with another song, it should react to that song, as long as he selected that song as the reference file. Thanks for watching! 😁👍
thanks so much for this video. Is it possible to use a video to sync to your audio instead of an image?
That might work, I've never tried it. Just replace the image with a video clip and see if it works. It just might. 😜
BEST tutorial ever thank you this was the best!
You're welcome!
How can we make the background like you?
Hi! My background is easy. I used a set of GoVee Strip lights along the ceiling and I have 2 RGB LED flood Lights by Novastella on the floor shining up on the background. You can use a wall or a background like i have now in my recent videos. I've got videos on both LED lights if you are interested.
Str8 to the point! Legend!
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching! 😁👍
@@JasonYadlovski cheers mate. I'll see what I can do.

You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!😁👍
So I'm getting an error after pressing the instal and launch button any ideas why?
Not sure what might be going on there....🤔
You have to use DaVinci Resolve downloaded directly from their website, rather than the App Store if you are on Mac.
Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome!
@@JasonYadlovski
My thiyghts exactly and Ken Burns type Transitions too.
Super handy. Thank You
You’re welcome! 👍😁
Nice to show us the basics, but I still don't understand what's going on with the modifiers.
It can get pretty complicated. I don't have a video that goes more in-depth on it.
Hey man, great video. Do you know how to animate with a waveform so it can be used to do snippets for social media podcast promos? Thanks
Thanks! I image you can do it the same way if you had an animated video of a wave form. Or even a static video, you can animate it this way. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks!
Great question! I'm not sure. I haven't come across anything like that just yet, but I'm sure there's someway to do it....🤔
@@JasonYadlovski Who may know that? I'm actually satisfied with After Effects, but it doesn't really work with the M1 Macs. :(
I’m not sure who would know. You might try searching the forums where you download the reactor. Or I’d just do some Google searches and see what you can find.
Thank you very much
You're welcome! 😁👍
Brilliant. Used to do something similar in After Effects never figured out how to do it in Resolve. Now I know! Thanks Jason.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching Ray!
Hey, thanks for the video. I followed the directions as you did them and everything went well. The only problem is my icon stops moving mid-song. I'm not entirely sure how to search to find the problem.
I'm not sure why it would do that. It's been a long time since I've tried this technique.
It doesn't work even though my file is a wav file. It just highlights the transform and mediaout red. Please someone help
edit: I found out the WAV file must be 16 bit. I had 32 bit float. My wav file had the best quality you can get.
edit2: It works now but the picture just dissappears in the middle of the song. This visualizer is fucking bad
edit3: Nevermind Im just dumb. The Global in/out limit was reduced. Still that's not my fault. Resolve is still a tricky beast.
Awesome, thanks for all the updates and glad you got it figured out! 😁👍
Awesome man, glad the community was able to help you out! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment! I appreciate it!
This saved my life and my bank account.. THANK YOU
You're welcome! Glad the video helped!
Hi great video. I wanted to ask, how do I carry the visualizer across many different pictures (I'm making a lyrics video) so I don't have to animate the visualizer 60 times?
Hi! are you able to extend the clip or maybe just make a compound clip out of your 60 clips and apply the visualizer to just that clip?
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the swift reply!
I solved the problem by making the background of the visualizer transparent and then expanding the fusion clip over the main footage.
My image just doesn't move at all, a small box inside is reacting but the image it self wont react. How do I fix this?

@@JasonYadlovski ya it is 16 bit so not sure, ill keep trying things

nvm, i see it. I just wish you told us to go to “Edit” on the very bottom of the program
Glad you found it. Thanks for letting me know you didn’t know you should be in the sit tab. I assumed that for an advanced effect, people would know to be in the edit tab where the majority of the editing is done. Hope you got the effect to work! Thanks for watching!

I followed the instructions and made sure the wave file is 16bit. However nothing seems to work. I am using version 16.2.5 could that be the problem in my case?
Not sure why it may not work for you sometimes people have weird problems with it. 🤔
I’ve been struggling with this as well. I heard someone say that they had to export a wav file out of Audacity to get it to work. My wav files from Logic don’t seem to work but, certain ones that I downloaded from the internet do.

Is there any way to make 'light' react to my audio? I use pictures (jpeg image files) as the background and I want them to shine in time with the music
It would mean a lot to me if you give me a reply! Thank u :)

I wanted to ask, are you using your MacBook for editing all your videos? What are it's specs?
😁 Tough Decisions! haha.
Jason Yadlovski Thanks a lot for giving your suggestions!
What if u run with admin? How do u import the installer without dragging it in?
Once I load the audio file into the modifier, it locks the size at 0 which makes my image not visible, and it doesnt animate
I haven't used the effect in a while, not sure why it's not working.....🤔
did u find out why?
Thanks for this dude! Been using this for a while for my beat videos. But I am getting an issue now after creating the transform node -> right clicking size and selecting audio wav. I get a red text in the inspector tab which says "Please load WAVE file". And so I proceed as usual and upload my .wav file . Then I get this error message "special characters in filename", and the animation is not working. Been trying to change the name of both the .png that I am trying to animate and the track itself (not using any hyphens or weird characters) but I still get the same error message. Does someone know what might be the issue here?
Thanks in advance!

hey man i watched the video and Im very close to finishing. Is there a way to add a image in the background if there is a way please let me know.
Hi! Sure just add the image in a video track below the image you are animating. Best of luck on the project!
Thanks for the tutorial. One thing doesn't work. My DaVinci Resolve doesn't recognize the transparency of my logo und draws it as black color. I tried using the logo as .png format but it still remains. please Help
Hi! A png should work for you as long as the background is transparent. You can always try changing the composition mode to help get rid of the background.
Jason maybe why I'm having such a hard time grasping FUSION is that I have bo Idea what each of those Icons do ,how the are used, and what they are trying to accomplish,. Is ther a tatorial that explains aand has examples of their use of all those icons in fusion that a beginner can understand?
I still feel the same way you do about fusion. I feel like it’s been a slow learning process for me. I know there is some descriptions in the DaVinci Resolve manual about what each node does. I just haven’t had the time to read through it all. I did make a fusion for beginners tutorial that may be helpful to get started with basics. Did you see that?
