I grew up with Diamond P sports they helped shape me into the car guy I am. Thank you, DPS, and thanks for posting this walk back through my childhood.
Absolutely. Man, just hearing the music, Steve and crew, ect just takes me back to me and my dad watching all types of racing. Dad loved it all. Diamond P, as it was with you, was a huge part of my childhood(although I'm just a fan, not a mechanic, driver or anything)
Yeah... Diamond peed at a fantastic job of covering these races... You got everything the sites the sounds too bad you couldn't get the smells... Steve Evans was hands down one of the best announcers in the sport of drag racing
Oh my. The long gone racing days of my youth, never to return. I lived and breathed NHRA racing at all level through the 70s and 80s and can still smell every bit of it. So long my dear friend.
The most calm Ive ever seen Force on the return road. I was a fan his whole career. They way he jumped out of the car yelling and bouncing around. Every win was like 1st time he had drove a funny car.
John Force is the best Funny Cars driver. He managed to catch flames on his drag racing car after the finish line. And he's always as happy as ever, despite his accident at the 1992 Mid-South Nationals.
@@nashvillecop1My wife and I met John Force at his pit compound at mile high nationals think1990s. On his run the cam broke right in front of where my wife and I were sitting. The concussion from the engine explosion .was brutal. We headed straight to his pits to meet him. When he showed up he crawled out of the smoking f/c.He walked straight over to us as we were the only ones at the pits. walking toward us I could see his firesuit still smoldering! I said John you're still burning. He said with a smile Hell I been burning all my life! Talked for about 10 minutes got autographs and headed back to the stands.
The front yard at the end of National Trail is no longer a problem. The NHRA moved the spring event to Norwalk But Nitro Chaos comes to Edgewater Raceway near Cincinnati now .
I think I understand what you mean. But this describes how it was with lots of accidents from the 80s. Springnationals is an example of accidents, because the dragway track is over 300-350 meters too short, instead of 500-600 meters long after the finish line. That's why Mike Dunn and Doug Kerhula drove right into the middle of two nets at breakneck speed. Before they organize to build a large sandbank first, then the extra long stretch on Columbia's dragway track.
@ekelundracing1970 Regardless Columbus Ohio still lost the NHRA Event . And as time and insurance companies crept along tracks with short shut down areas switched to 1/8 mile .
Mike 😊Dunn and that net reslly more than stopped it took him back reversed quickly. I bet he couldve kissed that net though! Such a violent stop it put out the flames!
I had the fiberglass Door Panel of the John Collins JVC Stereo Funny Car in my shop for years (1st Crash in this vid). They had left the shell lying at the far end of (La) State Capitol Dragway. I went out there & ripped the Door Panel loose & carried it out under my arm with all kinds of other loot. 63 now, I was 20ish then. Had forgotten that panel till now, back when they hand-lettered & painted bodies. Never saw it after '16 flood, it was just gone-
That's right. After Doug Kerhula's rear wing broke off, his parachute got tangled. He tried to slow down in time, but was too fast on Columba's drag racing track. The fact is Springnational is the shortest track distance, that you can't barely get the speed down the 100 mph. But since 1985, the nets were changed to the sand fence instead, before they had to redo the increasingly longer track length in the early 90s.
If nhra would have implemented safety rules for stuck throttles with Johnny West maybe Scott Kalitta might not have died at Englishtown some 20 years later
And my mans did this with a neck collar that probably wasn’t strapped before the run and a tubular chassis that’s it!! And didn’t walk away… my mans ran away!! That’s a Man!! 🤜🤛👍🙋🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️🌿🤙
What about the final race that big daddy Don garlite had in spokane washington in 87 🤷♂️ very similar to the wreak that you showed and his car didn't have much damage nor like the one 8n spokane that finished his career. 🤷♂️
Complains appropriately. They are cut together from Diamond P Sports. In addition, it is not possible to change the old music from the 80s. If you understand what I mean?

these era cars look so good ... what a time to race or be a fan.
Steve Evans = The best with a Microphone
Worked with Johnny West a few times. Have been to superbowl sunday at his house. Great man
Fanimej den bästa ihopsättningen jag sett

57:00 Terrible fire explodes for Bruce McCombs in Jet Funny Cars.
Horrible, but wow!

Can you explain how one can ‘catch flames’?
Maybe like catching fire?

John Force is like a Chris Farley character.
🤣 he absolutely is
PERFECTLY done!!
Y'all are still nuts but so very cool an fun thanks 👍👍👍👍👍😊
Big crash from beginning for Mike Dunn.
Mike Dunn knocked the hell out of those nets.
CHEERS from AUSTRALIA
Some times you gotta back off the throttle rather than make the car a total loss... When you fund your own car you understand that.
all of these guys are masters including the safety safari
4:58 man I’m old!! I watched this live and people with guns we now call tyrants were on main screen riding up to assist!! 🤜🤛👍🙋🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️🌿🤙
Fantastic period in the USA…. Now we’re all Doomed as life is not as pleasant anymore.

you can't say enough about the safety safari
Bob Glidden blood on his arm where it flew out during the roll. Such a badass
Johnny West is a tough man, he's racing today!!!!
Mike Dunn in the first clip, learned that rebounding net trick from Wile Coyote!
that's a wild ride

I real like Big Daddys Blow over after starting in the Summernationals
cruz and john bloody crazy
That sand trap pops the front end causing more issues than not. The beginning should be a smooth transition.

9:06 good god that was a fast stop. The g forces must of been massive and not surprised he was unconscious.

That's the sort of deceleration that causes retinal detachment. Amazing how he came out okay. Sadly, Doug passed away in March 2023.
@@thedevilinthecircuit1414 it’s amazing his insides and brain didn’t turn into mush.

HEART POUNDING EXPERIENCE 😮😳😬😬😍😊🇺🇸🙏😇👍
John force broke a track record on april 27th 2024. I didnt see it on tv so im sorry i dont know what track it happened on.
i'm glad they always come up with better safety for these cars
glamor division 🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎
Safety Safari on horseback..that's classic. Mike Dunn looks about 17.
Local law enforcement on horseback, not safety safari lol
@@farmcentralohio really, that's even better.
Cajun Police . Wish NHRA was still there
kenny bernstein one of the best

Speed is defined as how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how far you drag it😂
WOW 👍👍
I went to Texas 1998 to nascar race never went back they don't care about the fans
Such a wildly unrelated post. TMS has been pretty decent to the fans there in the 26 years since...in case you're wondering how it has been going.
these guys just sit there like no big deal it's a matter of fact
force is a badass
daddy's gotta ride the dragon get a nice job at the post office 🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛drivin truck

Those Jet cars run on diesel
Likely, but still there will be an explosion when the engine overheats too much.
@ekelundracing1970 they can use kerosene too. Cheaper
4:19 😅😅😅, kind of like a dry martini, they just wave the alcohol over it lol!!!
Ohh it wasn’t that bad😮😮😮
big daddy don ice water in his veins
Ima try to watch this. The first “kablooy” and I’m out.

Force avec son dentier 😂😂😂
✌️🤠💥🌟🌀👍
this makes me hurt
ya get yer bell rung
Gotta Love john force hahahahahahhaah
Is this video so boring that we need that loud music for entertainment?
That music is what Diamond P put over the footage at the time. It was the 80's. Some people like it, I do.
stevie foster by the hair of my chinny chin chin
i bet the racers bring extra underwear
Why did you add awful music to this video?
These videos were likely from the VHS series “And They Walked Away”, whoever uploaded this did not add the music themself.
😂😂😂. Useless
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎👎💩💩😬😬
